Re: MS Makes Donation to Peru

I am hoping that they are smart enough to take the money
and still run to Linux. They just need to make sure they
read the fine print.

I have had cable with AT&T for quite a while and have not
had any major problems. I have a wireless router coming
off of my cable modem, so all my machines get on the
internet just fine by doing DHCP from the router.

Ok, now to throw out the question of where we are going
to meet to eat before the meeting. Is everyone open to
meeting again at the buffet resturaunt on Amherst St
again? Or, is there another place that people would like
to meet at at around 6pm for dinner?

RE: decent dial-up providers in Andover, MA?

2002-07-06 Thread numberwhun

Suzanne,

When my wife and I were living in Plaistow, NH, we had to
go with dial-up for a while. There is a company called
'BiznessOnline'. They had a connection in Haverhill,
Ma. I connected right at the high end of 56K every
time. They are $17.95 unmetered. They don't require a
credit card and bill you in the mail for the service.
Here is the link:

Question about postings....

2002-06-24 Thread numberwhun

Ok, I have an issue that I am wondering if anyone here
has an answer to as it is rather annoying. This issue
has happened a few times in the past week. I thought it
was just me, but am now thinking otherwise.

I replied to a post this morning. I have not yet seen it
arrive to the list yet. It has been a couple of hours
since my post and I now have a couple of mail
administrator messages in my mailbox. The first one
says:

** Begin Quote ***

This Message was undeliverable due to the following
reason:

The user(s) account is temporarily over quota.

The worst part is I did not send any email to the

The second mail administrator message has this in it:

Again, I didn't send anything to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

My appologies for the long email, but this has happened
the last few times I have tried to post to the list and
it is really getting annoying. Does anyone have any idea
why this is happening. Also, it happens when I hit
'reply'. If I type in [EMAIL PROTECTED] it seems to
work ok.
Thank you in advance for any answers.

Re: Suse 8.0 Professional problem

2002-05-22 Thread numberwhun

One major problem I had last night, was that I had to
suffice with just installing the first disk. After
finishing the first disk, the OS rebooted, coming back
up and preparing to install the rest. It asked for the
next CD, but when I click on 'eject', nothing happened.
I clicked it a dozen times, but nothing. So, I manually
ejected the drive and inserted the next disk ( manually
meaning a paper clip). The problem that resulted is
that the OS did not see the disk as replaced and did not
read the next one. That stunk. So, I skipped the rest
of the disks and set up what was installed already. At
least X works. Now to see what wasn't installed and see
if I can get it to where I want it.

Thanks for the feedback! :)

I reinstalled from scratch, choosing to NOT install
absolutely everything. Now that the basic system is
installed, all I need to do is configure my devices it
wouldn't detect, or had NO driver for.
Unfortunately, it is a laptop and Suse doesn't seem to
like it too much. It doesn't even seem to have PCMCIA
drivers. ***sigh*** Back to the drawing board yet

am trying to install the software. I have gotten to a
point on the first disk where I am getting an error
stating that:

Package "/var/adm/mount/suse/kde/.rpm"
returned an error. Do you want to see the log?

I choose yes and go to the bottom of the log and it says
that the package is not found on the cd. It just keeps
doing this. Does anyone have any input on this? Has
anyone seen this? Any help is certainly appreciated.

Regards,

Jeff Kirkland

Re: Request for Software

I love it. I make a simple request for some software to
run on my laptop and I start a long legality thread.
Sheesh! You would think this was a M$ discussion
board. ( No to bring up the competition )

Ok, I didn't know about Suse's restrictions. I kind of
figured Linux --> GPL --> Freely distributed.

Looks like I will go and get it at the store. Thanks
for the reply's. Don't worry about copying it.

Request for Software

2002-05-21 Thread numberwhun

I was wondering if anyone who has Suse 8 (Professional
would be great) would be nice enough to burn me a copy?
I will trade with them at the meeting for blank cd's.

Thanks!

Paul,

I am not able to go to the Hosstraders, but if you guys
need some CD's burned of OpenOffice 1.0, I could
download it tonight and burn some cd's if you need it.
I have everything set up at my house already to burn.
How many copies would you need? Email me and let me
know if you will need them.
