Re: [GNC] Failed - import of QIF files from Quicken
Hi Ron, One thing you could try for troubleshooting purposes is to restrict the import to a narrow date range (say, a day) to reduce the number of transactions. Recently, I was struggling with QIF import failure from Gnucash Android. I was presented with a date format selection, and after I selected what I thought was the right format, the import suddenly quit without any warning or message. After reading up on the import process, I opened the QIF file with a text editor. I found the date format used was different from the one I'd assumed. Since then, the sun has been shining and the birds have been singing. Good luck to you on solving your problem. I have Gnucash 2.6.6 running on Windows 10. Re: [GNC] Stock account. Entering transacction.
When I do stock transactions that involve shares being bought or sold, I always do them in the investment account for that "holds" the shares for that specific stock. For example, the account structure might be something like: Investments:My Brokerage Account:XYZ Stock So I open the account "XYZ Stock" and I can now buy shares. There are two types of buy transactions I can do; add shares from old account that I already own, using equity open balance transaction, or buy with cash in my investment account. --- Use Equity Open Balance --- Start a new transaction. Gnucash will automatically put a split in the transaction that will have the "XYZ Stock" account referenced. This is the line where you tab over and put the number of shares in the "Tot Shares" column and the total cost of the shares in the "Tot Buy" column. Gnucash will automatically calculate the price per share. Next tab to the next line. Gnucash will automatically enter the same amount as the "Tot Buy" column in the first line but in the "tot Sell" column. Pick the equity account you are using to track the amount of initial equity (for example, "Opening Balances" or something like that). Once both these transaction lines are entered, you are done. Hit Enter to finish the transaction. You should see the "Balance" column listing the number of shares you added. --- Use Cash from Account --- This transaction is exactly like the Equity one, but instead of an Equity account, you will be using cash from another account. For me, this is always a "Cash" account that is a part of my investment account. For ecample: Investments:My Brokerage Account:Cash Once the buy transaction is done, the cash account inside my investment account will be decreased by the cost for the new shares. I think the trouble you might have been having is trying to enter the transactions from within a cash account. I don't know how you can specify shares when entering the transaction that way. That's why I always do buy and sell transactions for investment securities in the accounts that hold those securities. Hope this helps. Getting used to the double entry accounting can be a bit confusing at first, but after a while it makes sense. - Ken Farley -- Sent from: http://gnucash.1415818.n4.nabble.com/GnuCash-User-f1415819.html ___ gnucash-user mailing list gnucash-user@gnucash.org To update your subscription preferences or to unsubscribe: https://lists.gnucash.org/mailman/listinfo/gnucash-user If you are using Nabble or Gmane, please see https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Mailing_Lists for more information. - Please remember to CC this list on all your replies. Re: [GNC] Failed - import of QIF files from Quicken
Ron, In your email client there is usually an option for 'Reply to List" or "Group Reply" or something similar otherwise if the meassage was from Liz's private email address just add "gnucash-user@gnucash.org" usually separated by a comma from her email address or include it in the CC field of the email. The Nabble interface is a reply to the list. You might find the tracefile https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Tracefile gives you more information about what is happenening in the import. The log file in your data directory is only a record of the operations GnuCash has performed and really doesn't contain much debugging information. If you can attach a copy of the tracefile to your post If you can descibe what steps of the import process were completed before the import failed we will have a better chance of working out what happened. Importing QIF files and the steps in the process is covered in this section of the Help manual https://www.gnucash.org/docs/v3/C/gnucash-help/trans-import.html. It worked OK for me on Arch Linux with a fresh maint build just now. On what platform are you testing? BTW, questions about builds from git are better directed to gnucash-devel than to here. [GNC] Reports have got broken with commit f66b7ed
Hi all, if I build gnucash from commit f66b7ed (or a newer commit in maint) any report from the "Reports" menu will show up with an empty page. If I keep the report open and close gnucash the report will be displayed correctly after restart of gnucash. If I open a new report or a report from the "Saved Report Configurations" an empty page will show up again. A build from the previous commit 58ddb47 does not show this issue/behavior. Can anybody confirm this behavior?
