Re: [GNC] Correcting an incorrect amount on a payment

2020-08-03 Thread Frank H. Ellenberger
But that arises the question: Are you allowed by your applicable law, to
correct a transaction after a few weeks 'in-place'?

If not you have to add a reversing transaction or void it and the
correct transaction.

I think I tried that before but ran into another issue, but I don't
recall what it was. Let me give it another shot.

Yeah - you're probably right - but I assume I'd then have to deal with
contributions separately in both books, which would be a bit
cumbersome.

Re: [GNC] Correcting an incorrect amount on a payment

2020-08-03 Thread Adrien Monteleone
Not really sure what you mean by 'in place' but I think you can edit the
original payment transaction amount (since it is in excess of what was
applied later) and all *might* flow correctly afterwards. You'll have to
try it to find out.

Medium case, you'll need to 're-apply' the payment to each invoice.

Worst case, well, let's cross that bridge if you get there, as it is a
bit involved. (but still do-able)

Do this on a copy/backup of your file just in case, and if it doesn't
work or turns into a mess, you can always just ditch that copy and open
the original again, otherwise, turn the edited file into the main copy.

[GNC] Correcting an incorrect amount on a payment

2020-08-03 Thread Tim Quinn
Hi.

I’m using the business features. A few weeks ago I entered a customer
prepayment amount incorrectly, and since then I have posted several invoices
and paid them using that prepayment. Now I realize I entered the incorrect
amount for that prepayment. Although Gnucash now shows that the prepayment is
used up, there should really be a non-zero amount remaining.

I know I can create a credit memo to correct my error. I was wondering, just to
make it easier for me to match up the Gnucash records with the actual bank
account transactions, if there is a supported way to change the prepayment
amount “in-place.”

Thanks.

Re: [GNC] Installing on Windows 10 (with Defender)

2020-08-03 Thread David H
I also use Gnucash on a couple of installs of Windows 10 Pro and have
Windows Defender running. My update/install process is to download the
Gnucash setup.exe, right click on it and display properties and then click
the Unblock checkbox and then simply double click on the .exe file and
click OK when necessary to allow the install or update to proceed. My file
size on Windows is 141 MB (148,789,209 bytes) and I would expect your
downloaded file to be the same.

I'm with nvsoar on this one and think you need to download the Gnucash
setup.exe file again and make sure the download completes ok, then try the
re-install again. Either manually uninstall the currently installed
Gnucash or let the new install uninstall the current version for you -
it'll prompt you to uninstall the currently installed version.

Re: [GNC] Matcher for qfx files

2020-08-03 Thread Dale Alspach
The first stage of the import does not appear to be using ACCTID. I was
only asked once for each security which gnucash account to use though in a
few cases there were transactions for the same security in more than one
TIAA account. Worse the ACCTID information, which includes the contract
number, is not being displayed at this stage so this is nearly useless. It
may be that the next stage matcher uses the ACCTID information, but because
its memory was wiped with the upgrade I cannot tell.

gnucash 3.8 is the current version in the package manager. Upgrading would
require finding another source for a built package, using a flatpak or
compiling it myself. I scanned through the release notes and bug reports
and did not see anything specifically related to this issue.

A possibility is that TIAA has changed something in the qfx data. I did not
investigate this possibility.

My brother-in-law in the US (I’m in Oz) tried on my recommendation to
install Gnucash 4.1 from the gnucash.org site.

The install was initially blocked by Defender, but he managed to overcome
that. When he tried to run the program, the complaint was about missing
.dll files in C:\Program files (x86)\gnucash\bin\

As I don’t know about Windows 10, can someone please tell me the way to
perform the install correctly in this case?

Thanks.

For many years I installed GnuCahs on Windows 10 with defender enabled
using the .exe installation file.

I've never had any problems.

I'm currently running v4.1 well, and it was the first master update that I
haven't noticed any problems with so far.

*Congratulations DEVs!*

Sounds to me that there is a fault in the downloaded install file. I
suggest re-downloading the .exe file; checkg the hash code for accuracy
of the downloaded file; and then installing the new download file.

Do not believe the Defender is problem.  Windows will ask if you really
want to install the GnuCash install file.

All the best, nvsoar

May I suggest the brother-in-law also join us here on the list? If a new
user is getting stuck, they're likely to have more than this one issue
before they're up and running.

David,

Gnucash doesn't use an MSI file. It's an EXE.

Unfortunately for Peter's brother in law, I cannot help, since my Windows 10
installation was without complication.

I am assuming your brother-in-law took the easy route, downloaded and tried
to install the .msi version. Perhaps the Windows Defender interference
messed up the install . The usual advice for Windows is to use the Windows
Control Panel Program removal feature to remove the GnuCash program,
download a fresh copy of the Windows version from the website, then, since
Defender caused a problem, disable it before running the installation
again.

See here https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/GTK3#Themes how to do this.

Does anyone know which Selectors/Rules to modify the:

Highlight Text
Register Summary Bar
Account Sheet (Headers, Total Bar, etc.) ?

These do not work on Windows:

.gnc-class-highlight
#gnc-id-summarybar
#account_tree

Tks!

Re: [GNC] BotanyBayGardens nonprofit example, and why GnuCash does not suffice

2020-08-03 Thread Edward Bainton
At my local mosque they do it this way:

Buckets are carried passed the waiting rows of worshippers and various
notes and coins dropped in.
Buckets then go to the front of the mosque during the prayers.
After prayers the buckets are tipped up on the carpet near the exit and 5-6
people count the cash together.
A note of the total then goes on the mosque noticeboard - for this week and
with prior weeks also shown.

I'm honestly not sure when it gets banked, but this seems a reasonably good
system given the accounts are looked over annually by a qualified
independent scrutineer - I'm assuming s/he'd spot any leakage.
