Are you using our AIO bundle downloaded from
https://sourceforge.net/projects/gnucash or https://github.com/gnucash/GnuCash,
perhaps after linking through https://www.gnucash.org?

This appears to be the behavior of a bug in libofx where the offset is applied
in the wrong direction, i.e. a GMT offset of -5 hours is added to GMT making
2021-07-21T02:00:00 into 2021-07-20T21:00:00 when it should be subtracted
making 2021-07-22T07:00:00. That bug is supposed to be patched in the GnuCash

That -5 EST relates local time to universal time and may come into play if
the local computer clock is not set to the local time zone. Usually it
clarifies the source time reference of the data.

You could do a test where you modify your OFX file to remove [-5:EST]
from all transactions (you can do that easily in an editor), then try to
import it and see whether this fixes the dates.

After that the question is whether that [-5:EST] is valid or not.

2022-01-11 Thread john
These things pop up from time to time. Sometimes they want a lot more money.
It's absolutely permitted under the GPL, but you should recognize that they're
competing with a free download. Five bucks is pretty reasonable for the effort
of burning a CD for you.

If you do buy it you should make sure that Gnucash.app is code-signed with my
certificate before you move it to your own storage and try to open it.

Executable=/Applications/Gnucash.app/Contents/MacOS/Gnucash
Identifier=org.gnucash.Gnucash
Format=app bundle with Mach-O thin (x86_64)
CodeDirectory v=20500 size=2239 flags=0x1(runtime) hashes=63+3
location=embedded
Signature size=8925
Timestamp=Dec 18, 2021 at 6:11:14 PM
Info.plist entries=19
TeamIdentifier=Y9EHT5WMK7
Runtime Version=11.3.0
Sealed Resources version=2 rules=13 files=11455
Internal requirements count=1 size=180

The macOS bundle a drag-and-drop app bundle. If there's an installer it's not
legit. On Windows it is an installer and it's not code signed, but you can
check the sha-256 hash of the installer against the hashes published in the
release notes.

But either way it should be the same as what you got from the download, so what
went wrong with that?

[GNC] Import Transaction Manager (version 3.8) customization

2022-01-11 Thread Tracy

Greetings,

I am using GnuCash 3.8 (I haven't updated to a later version because I'm
running Ubuntu 20.04 and don't want to take the time to set up to
compile the source, nor do I want to be bothered with having to set up
and work around the limitations of the flatpack installs. Once 22.04
comes out, and it has had a month or two to settle in and get the bugs
knocked out, I'll upgrade Ubuntu, which will also let me upgrade GnuCash
to a 4.x version.)

But, in the meantime, I have a question/problem. In the Generic Import
Transaction Matcher (the window that opens when importing OFX/QFX/CSV
files), there are several headers that are displayed - to wit:

Date
Amount
Description
Memo
A (Add Transaction)
R (Match Transaction in register)
Info

These headers come up in this order across the top. (There is another
one that can display - the Skip Transaction - but I have that disabled
in Settings.) However, I have zero use for the Memo header - all it does
is get in the way of matching up my transactions and setting categories
for added transactions. While I can drag and drop this header to the
right, it is cumbersome to do this every time I import transactions (it
is necessary to drag it all the way to the right, then drop it, then it
places itself in front of the Info header, which I then have to drag
left to put it in front of the Memo field, etc).

So, my question. Is there a way to "permanently" hide this header (or
even change the default header order, so that it is out of the way by
default)?

Any suggestions welcome, although useful suggestions are more welcome
than others :-)

2022-01-11 Thread W. Neal Lewis

Derek,

I was wondering, because someone has a GnuCash DVD for sale on eBay for
$5.80 plus shipping.

It is supposed to have Windows and Mac.

I was interested in it, but thought that it could be a fraud, or
malicious software.

I found it at:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/352875314008?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160727114228%26meid%3D701f318adab94959a2d6235b58b79c81%26pid%3D100290%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D352875314008%26itm%3D352875314008%26pmt%3D1%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2060778&_trksid=p2060778.c100290.m3507

If it's legit, I might be interested.

But I saw nothing of that nature on the GnuCash site.

Thanks for the reply,

Neal Lewis

Re: [GNC] Does GNUCash have an install DVD for Macintosh?

2022-01-11 Thread Adrien Monteleone

1. As Derek noted, you should download the .dmg file.

2. When it finishes downloading, double-click it to open it.

3. Then open a second Finder window and navigate to your Applications
folder.

4. Drag the GnuCash icon from the GnuCash.dmg window to the Applications
folder in the second Finder window.

5. You may have to enter your user password.

6. Close the .dmg window. (and 'eject' the .dmg if you like from within
the remaining Finder window, you can then delete the .dmg file if you like)

7. Right-click Gnucash.app in your Applications folder and choose 'Open'.

8. You'll be prompted to approve opening the app, do so.

The app may or may not open at this point. (not sure why it doesn't
sometimes)

Any subsequent attempt to open Gnucash.app should work. You can add it
to your Dock if you like.

*After you create and save your file initially, from that point on, *do
not* try to open that file by double-clicking it. Just start Gnucash.app
and it will open the last used file for you. If you use more than one
file, after starting Gnucash, use File > Open to find the one you want.

Regards,
Adrien

p.s.—a DMG file 'is' essentially a disk file, just not on a physical
disk. Even if you had a physical disk, the above process would be the same.

I am running Mojave and would like to try GNUCash on my computer.

The download that I did, did not seem to install correctly.

Thank you for your help.

what time zone are you in? 2:00AM (whether GMT, or EST) is still yesterday if

Re: [GNC] Trying to get report with total when account has sub-accounts

2022-01-11 Thread Robert Stocker
Thank you! I will definitely look at budget reports and the P&L/Income
statement as alternatives. And thanks for the other advice as well, though
after having massaged my various accounts/categories over the last 28-ish
years (I started with CA-Simply Money), I'm pretty happy with how I have
that side of things set up. :)

Re: [GNC] Transaction Date issues during import OFX file (TD Bank)

2022-01-11 Thread Mark Sutton
The [-5:EST] is in fact the problem. I think GNC posts in UTC.
They even change that when daylight saving time comes into effect.
I either made the change in vi or wrong a sed script.
I'll have a look at what I did.

This is what I have in my file.

Subject: Re: [GNC] Transaction Date issues during import OFX file (TD Bank)

What do the tag contents say about timezone?

I have some ofx files from TDBanknorth (as it was known in the US back in 2007)
where the field said the server was keeping time in GMT. None of the
transactions declared a timezone, but all of the transaction times were 17.
There was significant evidence that TD had written their own ofx software
rather than pay Intuit. And it sure looks like the transaction times were local
instead of server time.

Re: [GNC] Transaction Date issues during import OFX file (TD Bank)

2022-01-11 Thread David Reiser via gnucash-user
What do the tag contents say about timezone?

I have some ofx files from TDBanknorth (as it was known in the US back in 2007)
where the field said the server was keeping time in GMT. None of the
transactions declared a timezone, but all of the transaction times were 17.
There was significant evidence that TD had written their own ofx software
rather than pay Intuit. And it sure looks like the transaction times were local
instead of server time.

Re: [GNC] Trying to get report with total when account has sub-accounts

2022-01-11 Thread Adrien Monteleone
Why not use the Budget Report? It rolls up sub accounts, and shows a
variance if you like.

I'm pretty certain you can restrict the accounts reported on as well to
reduce clutter.

Another option is to use the P&L/Income Statement, select just the
expense accounts you want. There is an option for the Parent amount to
include the Child amounts or not. You can also report them separate and
still get a Grand Total which rolls up the Parent and the children if
you like.

-
Finally, I'd advise to keep *all* parents as placeholders only if
possible. Create another child account to hold the transactions
currently residing there. But this is a personal preference.

I went through various refactors of my food/dining accounts as I crafted
them to better show me *why* not just *where* I was spending money.

So I've gone full nerd and done the following:

Entertainment:Dining
--Alcohol
--Breakfast
--Lunch
--Dinner
--Snacks

Food:To-Go
--Breakfast
--Lunch
--Dinner
--Snacks

I also track gratuities separately 'cause I can get carried away some
times and I want to know if that's why my food dollars are disappearing
so fast.

Gratuities
--Other
--Dining
--Entertainment
--To-Go

That Alcohol category is just for out in restaurants when I'm dining. I
have a separate "Entertainment:Sympinein" for when I'm just out for
drinks with friends; and "Groceries:Alcohol" for packaged stuff from the
grocery store!

I'm by no means suggesting anyone go this crazy, but it helped me get a
fast handle on money that seemed to disappear into the ether. I've since
turned that info into budgeting for each. And you don't even want to see
my 'Grocery' account tree! (I use it for balanced food planning too,
which also helped me cut my Dining budget drastically and zero To-Go
entirely.)

Adrien

I cannot figure out how to get GnuCash to roll up the Dining Out expenses
and the Delivery Charges expenses to give me a total for all of Dining Out,
so I wind up having to add these numbers by hand. I saw the "subtotal
table" option and thought I'd finally found what I needed, but that just
re-creates the same subtotals I get on the main part of the report in a

What am I missing? Happy to provide further details and/or clarification if
needed. Thanks!

Re: [GNC] reports: filter by number

2022-01-11 Thread Adrien Monteleone
Do the bill#'s show up in the NUM field (or elsewhere) in your expense
account registers?

If so, my first suggestion would be to do a Find (from the CoA tab)
filtering for the string you want.

Then run an Account Report (or File > Export > Active Tab to CSV) on the
Find results tab.

Let us know if that works.

Also, while the P&L/Income Report filtering is somewhat limited, the
Transaction Report gives much more flexibility and *should* operate on
the NUM field if I am not mistaken. If not directly in the Filter
option, then try the Regex option.

Hi all!

I live in Belgium and am using GnuCash and its business features for my
(small) company accounting.

I'm running GnuCash 4.4 on Ubuntu Mate 20.04 LTS.

I've composed a custom CoA in compliance to local accounting laws. My
accountant told me to register all transactions through one of 4
*theoretical* journals: "incomes" (linked to invoices and an A/R),
"expenses" (linked to bills and an A/P), "bank", and "others".

So, for instance, the new coffeemachine we bought for the office is
booked through the "expenses" journal: an expenseaccount + a taxaccount
are debited, and a (general) vendoraccount (A/P) is credited. These type
of transactions (through bills) are numbered by GnuCash, I set the
numbers to be BILL-21001, BILL-21002, etc through the Counters feature.

Some other expenses, however, are booked through the "others" journal as
they have nothing to do with an A/P and there's no tax involved in the
expense (so my accountant says, it has to do with quarterly VAT
declarations). So, these transactions are also expenses, but are not
registered as bills and thus not numbered by GnuCash, so I number them
manually: OTH-21001, OTH-21002, etc.

As the year ended and we're to close the books for 2021, my accountant
is now asking for a listing of these 4 journals. If I create a report
with a listing of all the expenses-accounts, this report contains
transactions from both the "expenses" and the "others" journal. My
question: is there a way in GnuCash (besides selecting each and every
expense account individually, or exporting the report to a spreadsheet)
to create 2 separate reports filtered by the "Number" field? Idealy, I'd
filter on the string in the transaction number field, similar to the
currently available filter on account name, but this functionality is
currently not implemented.

That -5 EST relates local time to universal time and may come into play if
the local computer clock is not set to the local time zone. Usually it
clarifies the source time reference of the data.

Re: [GNC] Transaction Date issues during import OFX file (TD Bank)

2022-01-11 Thread xraive .
Sorry for the late response. I tried removing [-5:EST] and the issue still
persists. All the dates are still reported as one day earlier. I imported the
same file in MSMoney and the dates matched the banks if that helps.

Thanks for your assistance so far.

That -5 EST relates local time to universal time and may come into play if
the local computer clock is not set to the local time zone. Usually it
clarifies the source time reference of the data.

Re: [GNC] Transaction Date issues during import OFX file (TD Bank)

2022-01-11 Thread Jean Laroche

I wonder what happens if the "[-5:EST]" gets removed. The dates seem to have
0200 as their time; subtracting 5 hours from that would return -3 o'clock (and presumably
shift the date back one).

You could do a test where you modify your OFX file to remove [-5:EST]
from all transactions (you can do that easily in an editor), then try to
import it and see whether this fixes the dates.

After that the question is whether that [-5:EST] is valid or not.

isn't and shouldn't be a problem or concern. Actual physical checks take even
longer to show up at the bank. This is all normal.

I wonder what happens if the "[-5:EST]" gets removed. The dates seem to have
0200 as their time; subtracting 5 hours from that would return -3 o'clock (and
presumably shift the date back one).

[GNC] Trying to get report with total when account has sub-accounts

2022-01-11 Thread Robert Stocker
To update my budget projections, monthly I run a transaction report to show
what I've spent on 2 expense accounts over the past 12 months. One of the
expense accounts has a sub-account. Let's call them Groceries and Dining
Out, where Dining Out has sub-account Delivery Charges.

I cannot figure out how to get GnuCash to roll up the Dining Out expenses
and the Delivery Charges expenses to give me a total for all of Dining Out,
so I wind up having to add these numbers by hand. I saw the "subtotal
table" option and thought I'd finally found what I needed, but that just
re-creates the same subtotals I get on the main part of the report in a
smaller format.

What am I missing? Happy to provide further details and/or clarification if
needed. Thanks!

(If it matters, I'm running GnuCash build Flathub 4.9-1 on Ubuntu 21.10.)

[GNC] reports: filter by number

2022-01-11 Thread Bregt - ICTgroup.be via gnucash-user

I'll happily take suggestions.

Kind regards,

Bregt

Re: [GNC] Gnucash import QIF issue

2022-01-11 Thread subscribe
Thanks for your advice

I did manage to import a partial QIF file of my records. And so have now had a
look at Gnucash. At the moment I don’t think it is worth me moving from my
Quicken XG2004 as Gnucash is not quite as good yet (can’t see how to import
share prices and overall not as easy to use) but may come back to it when
Quicken stops working.

Thanks for helping so quickly.

When Gnucash crashes during an import the first thing to suspect is bad data in
the import file. GnuCash is very picky about date format and will crash if the
date format in the import file doesn't match. Next, it is well known that
Quicken data does not always import cleanly, so it may help to start by
importing a small chunk of data first into a disposable test Gnucash data file.

Good luck.

Pity, I hoped all the 'errors' and 'warns' in the files would help.

I will look at doing the stack_trace file tomorrow.

How did you create these traces?

They don't seem to indicate a crash. Did you get them right after the
crash happened?
