POLITICS OF REGIONAL CHAUVINISM. This week has witnessed implosions within Regional Political Parties in India.In faraway Assam, Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, founder-president of the Assam Gana Parishad got the boot from the Executive of the Party,whilst nearer home in contigous Konkan, Narayan Rane of the Shiv Sena was expelled forcreating an atmosphere of defiance in the organisation Both the political parties at their zenith were able to capture the imagination of the disgruntled youth in their respective States who were promised the pie in the sky by and by and led to believe that their future was being usurped by outsiders/ bhaile. (remember Konkani is used in the Konkan region and so the term bhaile was in fact used in the neighbouring Konkan region by the Shiv Sena. This is to our personal knowledge.) Issue-wise the political content of both the above political parties can in terms of issues be categorised as being fundamentally similar,viz. economic migrants, and muslim outsiders. Whilst the CONTENT was successful in EXTERNALISING the actual problem, with the passage of time, it was found to be INAPPROPRIATE in the CONTEXT of changed situations reflecting the reality of India becoming a global village by the fallouts of better communication capabilities,and Liberalisation, Privatisation and Globalisation (LPG). Both Parties are likely to meet their political waterloo at the hands of a cabal determined to propagate a private personal agenda.Whilst the Shiv Sena is still mired in the dictats of its Fueher, it appears that in this respect, the Assam Gana Parishad is better placed to survive, thanks to the democratic impulses of the Party membership. Both Parties raised the bogey of party discipline to respond to the IDEOLOGICAL CRISIS within the Party.However both have not succeeded in fooling anyone who cared to peer below its petticoat.The YOUTH of both the States and the citizenry at large have now realised that BIGOTED ATTITUDES,REGIONAL CHAUVINISM,and DEMONISATION of outsiders/migrants was resorted to so as to pull wool over over peoples eyes to explain away the hard and harsh realities of POLITICAL HISTORY and ECONOMIC GEOGRAPHY. UNEMPLOYMENT,DEFEATISM,and LACK OF OPPORTUNITIES TO EXERCISE CREATIVE IMPULSES led to the growth of these discredited monstrous ideas of REGIONAL CHAUVINISM, not quite dissimilar to the ideas of fascist Hitler.In the Indian context it is not surprising that both these Parties were allied with---at the start covertly,and latterly openly-- with the BJP and its precursor the Jana Sangh. Poised as Goa is , at its political cross-roads, Is there a lesson in preventive politics to be learnt or would Goa bumble and stumble and wait to have recourse to heroic political medicine? Perhaps a way out of the dilema was presented by an erudite, contempory scholar of world repute who firmly and courageously affirmed You must have the courage to accept life as it is.This means loving ones times, without vain regrets and without mythical utopias, convinced that each one has a mission to carry out,that life is a gift received and must be bestowed on others, whether the times are serene or intricate,peaceful or troubled. But it is not enough to accept life as it is. IT IS NECCESSARY TO TRANSFORM LIFE from self-centred to an other- centred position. Love the whole world, because we are all brothers and sisters and each one must must bear the whole of humanity in his /her heart. We submit that INTERDEPENDENCE is the correlative of SOLIDARITY. Has this person turned the Party into a hired gun at the beck and call of selfish men with mainly personal animosities to grind? Has this Corporate Chieftain funded the Candidate? Will this Corporate reflect its funding of the purported Goa Su- Raj candidate in its Accounts, or is it a clever device at laundering black money? What about Corporate Governance? 3.It is time that the ELECTION COMMISSION OF INDIA turned its attention to ensuring that political parties complied with their own constitutions and hold regular Party Elections.Or how else can Political Parties be expected to uphold the Constitution of India, and the democratic principles? It is since last 1 month and 19 days Albert Rodrigues has been asking for his monthly salary with transnational corpoarte where he has been employed as driver. Based on a complaint filed on behalf of Mr. Albert Rodrigues by the Goa Justice Labour Foundation, a Trade Union registered under the Trade Unions Act 1926,the Office of the Labour Commissioner, Govt. of Goa has summoned the Manager- Operations of Travelpack to inquire into the industrial dispute raised by the Union. The workman Albert Rodrigues employed as a Driver has complained that he is being harassed and victimised for his trade union activities. Specifically the workman has complained about the denial of SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS by TRAVELPACK under its statutory obligations mandated under the EMPLOYEE STATE INSURANCE ACT. The first hearing was scheduled on 30th March 2005 at 1530 hrs,on which date the Management of Travelpack sought time,which was granted. The proceedings were adjourned to 13th April at 1100 hrs. The workman and the Advisor to GOA JUSTICE LABOUR FOUNDATION also met with the Regional Director (GOA), Employee State Insurance Scheme,Govt. of India, and apprised him of the EVASION IN PAYMENT OF CONTRIBUTIONS by TRAVELPACK. The Regional Director has decided to institute a full-fledged inquiry into the non-compliances by TRAVELPACK, and to initiate CRIMINAL PROSECUTION of TRAVELPACK if found to be neccessary. Total total deduction has reached to Rs. 1395/- Transnational leasure corporate-Travelpack deducts the loans which were never taken by the worker. This has further aggrevated the situation of mental torcher. Transnational leasure corporate-Travelpack plays with human lifes. Through the salary slip it implies that corporate Travelpack has stayed witness in taking loan for ( Albert Rodrigues). What amount of loan has been taken, for how long the loan deduction will go on, from which bank the loan has been sanctioned? Corporate Travelpack is tight lipped inspite of written request. There are approximately 135 employees employed in Travelpack Goa office. Because of rise in advance technology all these workers are selling their brains and expertise which they have gained from different Universities including Goa University. This is boon for corporates in maximising their profits. Taking the case of 135 employees who work on all odd shifts. This indicates that they are willing to WORK to satisfy their 'Hunger'. Life of 135 workers is nothing less then dead-well. They work as per U.K. timing (what is day in India is night in U.K. and vice-versa). These 135 workers kill their sleep by sitting in a dark room to maximise corporate profits. For uneducated person there is a requirement of Rs. 6000/- per month. But the case is exactly reverse. These University degree holders are being paid Rs. 3500/- per month. Dress code is long sleve formal shirt, formal pant and a long rope fastened round the neck called Tie. All these companies requirement is at the workers own cost. For food, transportation and little saving one require Rs. 6000/- per month as per todays cost of living. Every moment there is a cry of 135 employees. there is no social life for workers, there is no health care fascilities, there is no Bonus. one cannot attend any personal phone calls, one cannot leave their chair and table, cannot even turn their necks as there are -cameras installed which kills the liberty of workers - In Democratic Country-India. No one knows where the front screens of the installed cameras are located- whether on planet Saturn, Jupiter, Pluto or even Mercury- perhaps only Sun knows!! His salary slip displays no deduction.Rs. 465/- is a very big amount for a person who is not even getting minimum salary. At the moment Goa is the most expensive place to live in as compared to the rest of the states in India and Goa is having lowest pay scale as compared to rest of the state in India. But when he works as a Driver means there is no doubt that he is skilled labour. His salary should be higher then the unskilled labour. Number of working hours he puts is not less then 18hrs. Of which he is not even getting single penny. He gets paid only for 08hrs. company is robbing him for 10hrs. Per day. Its left up to you to calculate how much he has been robbed by the company. This is a ruthless exploitation of the labour by the company. With this salary is it possible him to get married and support a family. Or should he commit suicide like the farmers of Andhra pradesh-India.or should he paddle narcotics on the beaches of Goa?
