Maybe I'm missing something, but I am totally confused
by this topic:

1. Does qualification as used here mean a degree?
The dictionary describes a qualification as the
ability, skill, or quality which makes something
suitable for a given position.

2. If qualification as used here is a formal degree,
who exactly is PUT IN DANGER by someone having a
degree without the requisite education, in the
context of Goanet? And who among us presumes to have
the wisdom to decide who is qualified or not, and who
is educated or not? After all, Goanetters are not
being hired for a job, but just posting information,
expressing an opinion, or just letting off steam.

3. Finally, isn't EVERYONE qualified to give their
own opinion? And how is any of this relevent to
Goanet, anyway? Can't Goanetters simply read what has
been posted and respond in any way they choose without
questioning the qualifications or education of the
person making the original post?

Someone, please help me understand this whole line of
reasoning, presented with such enthusiasm by Lawrie
D'Souza, who says he can even LIST everyone who is
qualified but not educated, and that many Goanetters
WILL agree with him.

GL response:
There is academic education; social education; and cultural education.
These occur within and outside an academic classroom.

The factors outside a classroom also need to provide / shoulder their
share or responsibility of (social and cultural) education.

One site of adult education today in the internet and its mailing lists.
Does this internet list serve its function of us educating ourselves?
Most of the posts on political and economic governance are ONLY
critical, negative, unconstructive, harmful and on occasion destructive.
If we can constantly challenge the democratic 'centers of authority'
every day (in our media, on our streets and on the net), where is the
constructive spirit for ALL TO WORK TOGETHER to make things better for
the majority and to respect authority? Just asking?

Hope Goanet administration does NOT feel slighted about the observation
on this mailing list. My opinion is about those of us who participate
with few if any constructive suggestions. I am sure we are all
qualified. Now let's get educated. :=)) Regards, GL

I agree with the professor who said, These days we can give our
students only qualification, not education. There are two categories of
education. The one that teaches you how to make a living, and the one
that teaches you how to be a good neighbour and citizen. In fact, the
world is the best university and to quote Oliver Wendell Holmes Your
education begins when what you call education is over.

The method of administering education in our schools and colleges leaves
much to be desired
