We Brit Goans who have moved about, give at least 10 percent of the Bill in

How about this for a suggestion to benefit the man on the street.
If one was to consume a meal worth UK Pounds 50 (for two), you would give a
10% tip of UK Pounds 5.

In Goa, for a similar meal, it would probably cost equiv. of UK Pounds 10.
Instead of giving the waiter a tip of UK Pound 1, why not split the
difference and give him a tip of UK Pounds 2.5?

Surely, visitors from outside India can afford this, can't we?
When I have my hair cut in Canada it costs me $12 PLUS a $2 tip i.e. ~ Rs.
490/-
When I have my hair cut in Goa, it costs me Rs. 15 and no tip is expected. I
give the guy Rs. 30 instead. If I gave any more I would not only embarass
the barber but I would also look very foolish.

10% is just a guide. A tip is given not as a favour. If the service is
reasonable to good a tip is deserved and should be paid. These people count
on tips to subsidize poor wages - not only in Goa but also in more affluent
countries.

There is fine line, I know, but surely Goans from overseas can afford to
give more in the form of tips in Goa.

- I wonder if R.Fernandes has indeed penned and posted
this item? After the CM Manohar Parrikar responded to
him in kind in the newspapers, isn't it appropriate
for him to get back!
Or does he need some patrakar to write for him? or
remind us of the above?

RESPONSE: While I am not enamoured towards the BJP and Parrikar; I do not
think that Remo is in a position to criticize - re crumbs, as a recent post
on this site indicated that he was quite happy to be subsidized for his
birthday bash!! Hypocrite.!!

Cheers,
Gabe.

For instance a taxi cost, for the day Rs1000 tip Rs200 - can't be bad for a
days work? In fact Time and again I have heard that Goans/Indians are more
generous than foreign tourists - yet at the Airport all the coolies rush to
whites who give them a few coins or small notes. We Brit Goans who have
moved about, give at least 10 percent of the Bill in Restaurants, as a tip !

cheers,
Gabe.
