Could Goa steal 1857's thunder?

So we all know - an enraged catalyst in Mangal Pandey, cattle and pig lard
smeared on cartridges and a hurt national conscience triggered India's first
officially recognised war of Independence in 1857.

However, a quiet, yet sustained campaign is gathering steam here, to haul
back the date of India's first war of Independence by more than 300 years;
from the dusty plains of northern India to the emerald green, river-riddled
backdrop of Goa.

The campaign - which is endorsed by historians, freedom fighters, elected
representatives and local residents - wants the Central Government to
officially recognise the prolonged defiant struggle of five south Goan
villages, namely Cuncolim, Ambelim, Assolna, Veroda and Velim, against the
Portuguese colonists in the 16th century, as the India's first war of
Independence.

The struggle, in which several lives were lost, dates back to 1542 when
Kshatriya inhabitants of the five villages started a series of
confrontations with the Portuguese colonists. According to freedom fighter
and author Flaviano Lobo, the confrontation from 1542 to 1583 by these five
villages began with boycotting tax payment to colonizers and refusing to bow
down to forceful conversion tactics by Jesuit missionaries.

"Residents of the five villages, whose population was essentially Hindu
Kshatriyas, had defied Portuguese taxes before the Jesuit missionaries
destroyed five temples in the area to pulverise the flock into submission,"
Dias said.

The Jesuit priests then went on to build a church amid the ruins of temples
now destroyed, when enraged villagers from Cuncolim attacked them with
spears, swords and bows and arrows, killing leading Jesuit missionary
Rudolfo Acquaviva and his colleagues.

While the Roman Catholic church later anointed the dead priests as saints,
the Portuguese colonisers had a different plan for the revolting villagers.

"Sixteen chieftains from Cuncolim were called for a truce to a nearby fort.
They were ambushed and shot to rags by the Portuguese soldiers as
retaliation. A couple of the chieftains managed to escape and tell the
story," said Dias, who comes from the lineage of one of the slain chiefs.

Shantaram Naik, a Congress MP from the Rajya Sabha, who is actively pursuing
the campaign to put the Cuncolim revolt as the first landmark on the map of
India's nationalist history, said the State Government was in the process of
setting up a panel of historian and experts to authenticate the series of
events. "We need to give the Central Government rigorously-researched
material backing our claim. We are confident that the Cuncolim revolt will
get its place in history, that it richly deserves," Naik said.

Naik, however, admits it would be a difficult journey, given the headstart
Mangal Pandey's exploits and the year 1857 have had in history books. "We
cannot blame anyone. We are at fault. We needed to project our history
properly. We failed to do that over the years," Naik said.

Armstrong Vaz, a Cuncolim resident who has been researching the issue,
maintains that the social, religious and economic issues which arose out of
the revolt need to be researched. "Also, the religious persecution which
Hindus suffered after the revolt and the massacre of the Cuncolim village
chieftains by the Portuguese at Assolna, also need to be portrayed in the
right manner," he said.

Folks,
As Obamacare is passed into law south of the border, it seems the Canadian
Govt is moving in the opposite direction. Here are two items that may be of
interest:

1) After four years in the courts, the Supreme Court has agreed to the "First
Nations People" claim that since their traditional doctors provide a service in
areas where no other doctors practise, they are entitled to receive payment
for services provided. Interestingly, the "traditional healers" claimed that
they
a) Practised defensive medicine and
b) treated people with pre-existing conditions

2) The second announcement, from the current conservative govt, is that in
order to reduce costs, terminal illness would only be treated for six weeks.
The govt is providing data showing that it could cut the medical budget by
30% AND reduce taxes if did not have to provide a hospital bed for certain
cases.

So, it appears that the "Canadian" production

[3] SB asks further: 'Did I misunderstand? Or, does he mean that he
should be quoted VERBATIM every time?'

ANSWER:

YESyou, Sebastian Borges (probably) misunderstood and (definitely)
misrepresented my words.

There is a striking difference between discussing a project for SOME
TIME and being one of those who ORIGINALLY thought of the project.

It might be that you have a problem with comprehending the English
language (possibly) because it is written in the Romi script. Perhaps,
I should write it in the Devanagri script for you.

Now we know (I hope) that:

a: the Chinese brought Chinese cuisine to India, where it was modified
by the addition of some Indian spices,
b: the Portuguese brought the chorico or salsicha (sausage) to Goa
where it was modified by the addition of spices,
c: the Portuguese brought the ladainha to Goa, where it was sung
(also) in Konkani

I cannot be more clear than this about this topic. I'd say this in conclusion:

d: If you can help this project - financially, please help.
e: If you can help this project by not nit-picking at irrelevant side
issues, please help by zipping up.
f: I find it pointless discussing anything with a person who is
challenged in the English language and who engages in arguing on the
basis of his (own) misrepresentation of the facts.
g: Accordingly, please have the last word on this exchange, and have a good day.

Actually Joe, the predicted solar storms of 20012 (not the dooms day
scenario) could wipe out data off hard drives, knock off electricity,
the cel phone networks and who knows what else. There are warnings for
broadcasting the London "lympics of possible outages.

As well, there is a debate as to how long (time wise) the present
medium can hold dataexample, a cd with pictures- it is said would
deteriorate after a few years.

That said, the internet the way it is today is very fragile and in a
worse case scenario, it won't take long to break down- came close a
couple of times. There is still a debate on the alternative to the
present system being talked about but far from implementation.

Regards.

worth crores of rupees that were arrested in Colva.Interestingly the local
newspapers maintained a silence on this. These criminals were nabbed by

Dear Friend,

How do we react to suffering? Most people try to avoid it all at costs. But if
it is unavoidable, how do we cope with suffering? Some prefer the Spartan way:
with courage and will power, believing that they have the power within to do
it. Others try to reason and rationalize suffering and by this way they believe
they can face the enigmas and struggles of life. The Christian way does not
exclude the other two but focuses on dependence on God and his power. God gives
us the power to endure all things. Have a ‘Good’ Friday contemplating how Jesus
loved and saved us through the Cross! Fr. Jude

Sunday Reflections: Good Friday ‘The sacrifice of love, giving till the very
end!’  2-Apr-2010
Isaiah 52:13—53:12         Hebrews 4:14—5:9            John 18:1-19: 42

The first reading is a passage about the humiliation and suffering of the
Suffering Servant of Yahweh. Israel contemplates the mystery of suffering as
seen in the fate of the man on whom rests the hopes of Israel. The innocent and
unmerited sufferings of the Servant of Yahweh expiate for the sins of others.
The Servant of Yahweh was a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief, he was
despised yet he bore silently the sufferings inflicted on him. Harshly dealt
with, he bore it all humbly and never opened his mouth. He accepted it all as
coming from the Lord’s hands. But it was not pointless suffering, for through
his wounds we are healed and justified in God’s eyes.

The Cross And The Crown
There is strange legend of a monk who was walking in the monastery garden
alone, thinking of the Passion of our Lord, just before Holy Week. As he slowly
paced along, he saw something lying in the path, and picked it up. It was the
crown of thorns which our Lord had worn for our sakes, and he reverently
carried it to the little chapel, and laid it upon the altar. Never had Holy
Week been so well kept, for the sight of that crown of thorns made them realize
the sufferings and the love of Jesus more than they had ever done before. At
last Easter Sunday dawned, and the monk rose early for his Easter preparations,
and came to the chapel. As the sun shone through the window, it lighted up the
altar, it touched the crown of thorns, and there in the Easter sunlight the
thorns had blossomed into the most beautiful flowers. It is a little parable.
For it is suffering and sacrifice which bring forth the most fruits.
Anthony Castel in ‘Quotes and Anecdotes’

The Passion of Christ according to St. John is highly dramatic in as much as he
presents the passion as a triumph of the Son of God. Throughout John’s passion
we see Jesus always in command, never the victim who is made to suffer
unwillingly but one who goes to the bitter end of his own accord. At his arrest
his adversaries fall prostrate before him, illustrating what he himself said:
“No one takes my life from me. I have the power to lay it down of my own
accord.” He is the master of his fate. We see the same self composure of Jesus
at his trial. His enemies bring him to trial on false charges but it is they
who are judged rather than Jesus. His fearlessness and silence confronts them.
The theme recurring during this section is that of kingship. He claims that he
is king and for this he came into the world, yet he is a different kind of
king, whom few will understand. He reigns in men’s hearts not by dominance and
fear but by love. The Jewish
leaders are determined to get rid of this king, they reject him: “Away with
Him!” But he cannot be ignored. Scourged, crowned with thorns, mocked and
arrayed in a purple robe, he is saluted as ‘King of the Jews!” Pilate
ironically says “Behold the man! You have nothing to fear from this helpless
man.” But John sees the Son of Man as the judge of this world and of all man.
Although Pilate has found him innocent he has no courage of his convictions and
he yields to political pressure and blackmail. The way of the cross then
becomes a triumphant procession. In contrast to the other synoptics there is no
Simon of Cyrene who needs to help Jesus to carry his cross to the very end. In
John’s Gospel the cross is the throne of this King. “And I when I am lifted up
will draw all things to myself. The passion of Christ ends on a triumphant note
not a whimper. “It is finished! The task you have given me is accomplished!
Therefore the story of the
passion does not end with his death on the cross for John sees the deeper
reality symbolized by the resurrection. The death-resurrection comprises one
event, and

4 Latin American robbers held for Bangalore jewel heist
TNN, Mar 31, 2010, 02.46am IST

BANGALORE: Rs 1.5 crore worth of jewellery stolen from a hotel on
March 22. Police clueless. This has all the masala of a suspense
thriller. The exciting end comes a week later with the arrest of four
foreign nationals in Goa.

The plot: four Latin Americans gang up in Kuala Lumpur, conduct a
survey of jewellery exhibitions in South India, pick on Bangalore,
come via Kathmandu, execute the heist successfully and decamp to Goa.
But CCTV footage proves their nemesis. City Crime Bureau (CCB) sleuths
get enough clues from the footage, go to Goa, and nab the four, who
were about to courier the jewels, concealed in dolls, to Colombia.

The heist happened at The Pride hotel on Richmond Road. The jewellery
was brought by a Jaipur-based merchant to be showcased in an
exhibition at Kanteerava stadium. The four persons arrested on Monday
have been identified as Pedro Alejandro Maita Rodriguez (30) from
Caracas, Venezuela; his girlfriend Maira Alejandra Aranago Giraldo
(22) from Barrio Willa, Colombia; Elenilson Amilcar Pocasangre Ruano
(34) from Losrosales, El Salvador; and Luis Alberto Giraldo Lopez (25)
from Bogota, Colombia. CCB sleuths have recovered all the jewellery.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Pramod Agarwal Derewala, owner of Derewala Jewellery Industries Ltd,
had come down on March 19 to participate in the jewellery exhibition,
held from March 20 to 22. Agarwal had checked into The Pride along
with his manager Vijay Saini Doorwala and assistant Nitin.

At the end of each day, they would take the jewellery back to their
hotel room. On March 22, after the exhibition, Agarwal left the city.
His assistants took 7.782 kg of gold jewellery of Italian design and
704 gm of silver back to the hotel.

At 7.55 pm, soon after both had stepped out, their room was broken
into, and two bags containing the jewellery stolen — all within eight
minutes.

Goa drama shifts to Dilli durbar
TNN, Mar 31, 2010, 04.55am IST

PANAJI: The national capital will play host to the next act of the
drama in the state’s ruling coalition on Wednesday with the
Congress-NCP coordination committee set to meet in the afternoon to
discuss issues raised by the ‘group of seven’ MLAs.

Sources said that among the G-7 demands is a leadership change. When
contacted, state Congress president Subhash Shirodkar denied that a
leadership change was on the agenda and declined to divulge the issues
to be thrashed out.

While the rebels reached Delhi on Tuesday evening, CM Digambar Kamat
and Shirodkar are scheduled to reach on Wednesday morning. PWD
minister Churchill Alemao also reached Delhi on Tuesday.

21st NYC Trophy
Fair Draw on the Cards

Kuwait: Hosts Navelim Youth Centre will meet Indian Strikers in the first match
of the Navelim Youth Centre (NYC) organized 21st Edition of NYC Trophy football
tournament commencing from 9th April 2010 at the MOI Grounds, Shuwaikh.

The tournament will be played under the auspices of Kuwait Indian Football
Federation (KIFF) and officiated by KIFF referees.

The draw, a unique one, was conducted during the finals of Goa Maroons Trophy
finals in presence of NYC President Agnello A. S. Fernandes, KIFF President
Fidelis Fernandes and representatives of participating teams.

Other matches on day one will be Kuwait Goan Association taking on United
Friends Club in the second match while Rising Stars will play United Goans in
the last match.

Ten strong teams affiliated to Kuwait Indian Football Federation (KIFF) are
vying for the prestigious, perhaps one of the most uniquely sculpt trophies
worldwide, instituted in the year 1993. The finals of this edition are slated
for April 30, 2010.

The tournament is sponsored by international corporate houses like Gulf Custody
Company, Axis Bank and My Money Mart.

NYC President Agnello A. S. Fernandes speaking on the occasion said, "NYC has
over the years, whenever it has embarked on a project, always tried to create
awareness with a theme. For our 21st edition NYC Rolling Trophy, in
coordination with our sponsors, we have decided on the ‘Go Green' subject."

Mr. Charles D'Sa picking up a team at the Draw.
Later in a statement Mr. Agnello said, "Our Sponsors have stressed that NYC
should try to create an awareness on climate change in their own possible way.
NYC have reiterated its commitment to feature in brief, simple valuable hints
that should enable us to cultivate habits this change. For statistics show
that some of the greatest threats to future resources come from things we throw
away every day. Batteries and electronics often contain dangerous chemicals
that could pollute the earth. These items should be disposed in a proper manner
- not by throwing them out the window. These can contaminate everything from
the soil in which our food grows, to the water that we drink."

The President further added, "Many of these chemicals cannot be removed from
the drinking water supply, nor from the crops that are harvested from
contaminated fields. The risk of these elements to human health is tremendous.
Throwing away items that could be recycled diminishes energy, water and natural
resources that could be saved by recycling."

"In our own way, within our homes, we can do many things to help the climate
change so that our generations can have a cleaner future. Don't leave a planet
for your children that will have no climate. If we don't start to change our
habits now then the culture, wealth and treasures we will leave behind for our
generations will be of no use to them. THINK ABOUT IT!" concluded the
President.

First Round Fixtures (09/04/2010):
Navelim Youth Centre v/s Indian Strikers at 6.45am
Kuwait Goan Association v/s United Friends Club at 8.15am

Could be more. Or the Net could collapse well before that time. It

Talk ‘conciliation’ first, let court be last resort !

by FRANKY GRACIAS

A prominent movie house in the city had to tender an apology in a
newspaper for a wrong advertisement for the price of a ticket after a
couple complained to the Consumer Conciliation Committee (CCC)
attached to the Civil Supplies Department formed especially to look
after consumer grievances.

The movie house had advertised a ticket for Rs 100 in the ad but
the couple had to pay Rs 120 for the show. They paid the sum and
watched the movie but later decided to teach the movie house a
lesson to make it realise it shouldn’t take customers for a ride.
A complaint to the conciliation committee brought the theatre’s
official before the CCC at Junta House which heard the matter after
which an apology was issued in the same newspaper that had carried
the Rs.100 ticket ad.

Officials in the know of the operation of the CCC mention the
couple’s grievance was not about the Rs 20 extra they had to pay
for the movie show, but the way in which the people at the counter
behaved after the ad was mentioned to them.

They said more and more people were approaching the committee
formed as per the provisions of the Consumer Protection Act with
even the smallest of matters, a sign indicating customers are now
becoming more and more aware of their rights for better service.

“The movie theatre case was a unique one, but the committee which
has been operating for the last few years has heard and settled many
disputes pertaining to prices of goods, blunders at tailoring shops,
beauty parlour goof-ups, flight ticket refunds, spoilt milk packets,
insurance cases, phone line complaints, builder matters, etc.,” the
officials mentioned.

Conciliation committees save courts several litigations that would
arise out of matters coming to the former. These types of committees
operate at several courts in the country, but Goa is among the first
few states to have a conciliation committee hearing consumer
grievances exploring potential solutions and bringing about a
negotiated settlement.

The CCC that started a few years ago in the State on the initiative of
then Assistant Director Civil Supplies Ashutosh Apte meets once in
a month on the fourth floor (1st lift) at Junta House and has settled
even the smallest of smallest grievances.

Say Amita Salatry and Roland Martins members of the Goa State
Consumer Protection Council, who conduct the proceedings of the
CCC, “The basic purpose of this committee is to build confidence in
the customer. Here one can come with the smallest of complaints.”
Both, Salatry and Martins are members of the CCC.

They mention it is surprising to observe consumers who have come
with complaints at the hearings give solutions and proposals to the
opposite party on how to improve services. “Suppose there is no
settlement in a matter a failure report is prepared and after that the
complainant is free to approach the designated consumer court,”
both inform.

Salatry and Martins observe, “Conciliation differs from arbitration
and the proceedings held at the CCC have no legal standing and it
can’t order. What we do is bring both parties face to face and work
out a settlement saving the courts hundreds of litigations that would
arise out of trivial issues.”

They add, “Once a settlement is reached CCC draws consent terms
by which the parties have to settle their dispute. One must realise
even the smallest complaint is worth it. It may have the power to
bring out bigger solutions.”

The CCC met on Thursday at 3 pm where around 40 cases were
lined up and a few of them were heard and some decided and some
likely to be settled till it’s time for the next seating on April 15.

Russians in search of Indian paradise in Goa

Tired of city life, Russians are increasingly taking time out in Goa – and some
aren't going home. But now India has increased visa restrictions in an attempt
to curb the influx

Five years ago, Yulia Solovyeva's life was like that of any other young
professional coming from the provinces to Moscow in search of a career.
Mornings began with a quick cup of coffee in a tiny rented room, a walk through
slushy streets to the metro, carriages packed with tired faces, and on to the
office where she worked as an interpreter.

"I felt like I lived in a cage," says Solovyeva, relaxing in her Goa home, legs
folded into the lotus position. "We smoked cigarette after cigarette in
constant stress; I could never imagine raising children in that aggressive
Moscow environment."

And so, like thousands of other restless young Russians unhappy with city life,
she headed to the Indian state of Goa in search of shanti – inner peace. The
Russian exodus to Goa has become a trend, and many are moving there for good.
Cheap daily charter flights are now carrying thousands of Russians to the
former Portuguese colony famous for its beaches and laid-back mood that have
been popular with British ravers and drop-outs for decades.

The allure of India has even spawned a best-seller in Russia, The Goa Syndrome,
a book about living and working in Goa by Alexander Sukhochev – also known as
DJ Sa Shanti, a resident of the Indian state since 2003.

Solovyeva's husband Timofei prefers to describe the drift of Russians to Goa as
a movement of "up-lifters" rather then "down-shifters", the term used in the
West. The Solovyevas' two children were born in Goa. Their son's name is Om and
their daughter's name is Uma after the Hindu god Shiva's wife. There are
already two Umas in the growing Russian community and more could be on the way:
the community has celebrated a baby boom in the last few years.

Like many other Russians, the couple set up their own business in Goa. "Our
yoga resort was the first business on this street five years ago, and now we
have dozens of businesses along this shore," says Timofei during a tour of his
neighbourhood in Arambol in northern Goa.

Flyers in Russian are pinned to palm trees advertising yoga, massage,
traditional Indian music and dance classes for visitors.

Ilya Demenkov, 27, grew tired of his work as a computer programmer at a Moscow
IT company. He flew to Goa last year to realise his dream of opening a
kitesurfing school. "I came here to begin my own business and find a
girlfriend," he says.

Alla Duhl, a St Petersburg painter, found that she could live on just over £300
a month in Goa, including rent for a studio and a room in a house with a
tropical garden. "Maybe a British lady would find this environment lacking
comfort, but we are used to crowded buses and dirty streets," she says, "so Goa
feels like home to us."

Duhl, who paints portraits of local people on pieces of antique dark wood, says
she planned to exhibit and sell her art pieces this summer, during one of her
short visits to Russia.

But the influx has also raised some concerns in India. Last year, 80,000
Russians flew into Goa, and, according to the Indian embassy in Moscow, 1,400
did not return home before their visas expired.

"Some tourists decide to stay and live in India permanently," says the
embassy's secretary.

"Some, we hear, even burn their Russian passports to break off all the
connections with home."

However, as of February this year visa rules have been tightened for Russians
and Western Europeans visiting India. After certain individuals linked to the
terrorist attacks in Mumbai used tourist visas to spend extended periods in the
country, now they are only issued for a month at a time. Even though the rules
have been changed for everybody, the Russians still feel singled out.

The president of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Goa, Laxmikant Parsenkar, said
that Russians should "have fun, spend money and go back" rather than start
businesses. Indeed, the highly popular city of Morjim seeks a ban on Russian
businesses after a taxi driver was killed in a scuffle with a Russian citizen.

On their return to the cold of Russia, some fans of India try to preserve their
state of shanti. Increasingly, Russian cities have yoga clubs, and practice of
the physical and mental discipline has taken off after being barely visible
just a few years ago. A new chain of Indian stores, The Way to Yourself, offers
everything from In

Infrastructure Development Is The Need Of The Hour

It is indeed good to know, that the Prime Minister and the Planning Commission
are showing, the desire to revamp the infrastructure in the country, as per the
R & T Minister Mr. Kamal Nath, starting 2012, it will be the decade of
infrastructure. No doubt late, but anytime, better than never, is what comes to
mind.

Under the 12th five year plan, the centre proposes, to double the infrastructure
spending, to one trillion dollars. It is a very beefy amount indeed, but deemed
fit to meet the needs of growing and glowing India. The authorities will have to
make sure, that utmost efforts are made to translate this beefy talk into
colossal action. Infrastructure development is the need of the hour. It is most
certainly a welcome action in the right direction.

The bug from Delhi must have flown to Goa, as few days ago, our very own CM
said, that greater stress would be given to infrastructure development in the
state. In case of Goa it is much easier said, than done. The track record of
Goa, as far as performance is concerned, is abysmal and the Planning
department's forays leave much to be desired, and should be rightly named as the
non planning department.

In Goa we are still surviving on more than two decades old infrastructure,
planning departments are suppose to plan for adequacies, a couple of decades
ahead, taking into consideration the fast growing needs, of the fast growing
people, but unfortunately in Goa our politicians and bureaucrats alike,
certainly lack the required foresight, as their sights are locked and hooked
only on accumulation of wealth and power for themselves. The cruel paradox is
that, insatiability and self indulgence, which many of us find repulsive, seem
to be, an inherently 'natural' phenomena in most of our politicians.

As a result of the prevailing high level of corruption and greed in Goan
politics, the developmental progress has taken a heavy beating and has suffered
sever setbacks, as the policies of our Government are neither seminal nor
enlightening, but seem to be scattershot combination of inept and derogatory
measures rather than cohesive, constructive and viable strategies for
development.

For infrastructural development, land is the most essential or pivotal
commodity, in Goa because of the destructive development and the fraudulent
large scale sale of communidade land and encroachment on the remaining, land has
become a very scarce commodity, and to add to the woes, Government has acquired
disproportionate amount of land in the name of SEZ, the coastal areas have been
taken up by the CRZ and the forest area and mountains have been hijacked by
miners and the common man is left with very little to squat on, this has set
extremely dangerous precedent, and if not tackled now could be disasterours for
the future.

Tolerance and forbearance of the Goan people, should not be mistaken for lack of
interest or timidity or even cowardice by our politicians, just thinking that we
are on the right track, will not help us because, even if we are on the right
track, if we don't move along with the flow, there is a distinct possibility
that we could get run over.

Goa badly needs to upgrade and out grow it's infrastructural inadequacies, so as
to help growth, because infrastructure development does help to fuel economic
growth in more ways than one. I sincerely hope that our politicians will work
for the growth and prosperity of Goa and Goans rather then their own.

It is good, that Benaulim MLA Mickky Pacheco has taken a stand against
Mega-Projects, recently at the Betalbatim Gramsabha. I request that he takes
this one village further and puts in some sense into specific corrupt Colva
Panchayat Members, who are blinded by huge incentives via Mega-Projects, at
the cost of destroying my beautiful village. Also, I would like to remind
Mickky, that he had taken a similar stand in 2007 at the Benaulim Gramsabha
and would like to know, if there was any positive action taken by him on the
same. Finally, I wonder if the MLA from the Neighboring Constituency of
Navelim i.e. PWD Minister Mr. Churchill Alemao has done anything to stop the
Mega-Projects; surely as a person who once formed the Save Goa and also
reportedly is concerned about Global Warming, he should have done

COMMENT: Reps making headlines yet again but for the wrong reasons;
check this out:-

The Republican chairman, Michael Steele, promised on taking office that he
would bring the party to corners of America it had not reached before. It is
a fair bet that most Republicans did not expect these corners to include the
Voyeur West Hollywood, a bondage and S&M club in Los Angeles.

It emerged today that the Republicans spent almost $2,000 last month on a
visit to the club where topless women hang from nets on the ceiling and
simulate sex in a glass case.

Folks,

They are calling him a war criminal for persuading Mr Bush (43rd P) to take the
US to war against Iraq. To be fair, I think I have more respect for Mr Bush
than this slim-ball Republican. Now he is touring the US to sell his story. You
interested?

And here is a more balanced view of what the recently passed health care law
was about.

Personally, I do support the Afghan war - but not the Iraq war.

JC says:
IF you have verifiable proof that some (expected) home-grown
ingredients entered into the Ladainha which was brought by the
Portuguese into Goa, please provide that proof. No 'invented' proof
just the facts, Sir!

Let me reiterate what I have already said earlier. Even when every ingredient
of a dish is brought from the market, we cannot say that the dish itself has
been procured from the market; this holds true even when not even one small
item has been added from the kitchen garden.

Having said that, let me cite some differences between the 'ladainha' SUNG in
Goa and the PRINTED prayers in Latin and Portuguese. "Kyrie eleison" occurs
twice in the printed litany but is sung only once. In the Salve Rainha that we
sing, we find the words " e depois deste desterro NOSSA mostrai" (Is
this how it is in the Portuguese prayer? To my mind, it is not even
grammatically proper Portuguese.) Towards the end of the same, we sing "
sejamos dignos das promessas DAS PROMESSAS de Cristo DA PROMESSA DE CRISTO Amen
JESUS." (The capitalized words are extra.) The orasanvam (hymns) to saints,
Our Lady etc. in Konkani certainly could not have been imported from Portugal.

I am not sure whether the above will meet JC's requirements. But this is all I
can do.
