[Goanet] Mining Goons in Goa
The brutal attack on Anti-Mining Activist Nilesh Gaonkar by the Mining Goons is clear case of frustration and cowardly fear, that their huge illegitimate profits from the destruction of Goa are soon to be compromised. I strongly feel that these goons have done their dastardly act with the directives of their mining godfathers who have the blessings of the extremely corrupt and pro-mining Goa Government. Today the attack is on Nilesh, tomorrow it will be an attack on anyone who the Anti-Goans feel is a threat to their sources of illegitimate income. Under the garb of Language, Religion, Caste etc the unscrupulous politicians have divided Goans, so as to continue with their destructive activities. It is high time Goans link up across Goa and stand with every Goan who is facing the wrath, threat and intimidation of the Anti-Goan Government and their Goons (which includes the highly corrupt and compromised Goa Police, who are supposed to be the custodians of law and order in the state) Arwin Mesquita, UAE -- Please post your comments on my Blog: http://goanidentity.blogspot.com/ Please also see below: 1. [Goanet] Doha Goan Sports club (Well Done)
I must appreciate the fact that at their recently held Dance/Social event , the Doha Goan Sports Club did not entertain any Anti-Goan Politician as special invitees, chief guests etc i.e. the people who are involved today in the destruction of Goa via Destructive Mining, Mega Projects favoring outsiders, Migrant Vote Bank Politics, SALE of Goa to land sharks and big money bags from outside, excessive corruption, drug menace, high level of prostitution etc This kind of act of not dancing with the tainted politicians is in a way, a democratic disapproval of the Anti-Goan Politicians and sends a message to other Goans to discourage the same. I do hope that the Doha Goan Sports Club continue with this approach for their future events and that this be an example, to the other Overseas Goans in the Gulf and elsewhere, who encourage Anti Goan Politicians for reasons best known to them !! [Goanet] Willy takes potshot at Churchill, asks for his education status
Willy takes potshot at Churchill, asks for his education statusTNN | May 13, 2011, 01.17am IST PANAJI: Till what class has Churchill Alemaohttp://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/search?q=Churchill%20Alemao studied to know about ageing and senility, asked former chief minister Wilfred de Souza on Thursday, in response to media reports quoting the PWD minister as calling him senile. Addressing a press conference to give a point-by-point rebuttal of Alemao's charges against him in Margao on Wednesday, de Souza said that if being above 80 is senile, then what about the prime minister of Indiahttp://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/India and senior BJP leader L K Advanihttp://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/search?q=L%20K%20Advani . Alemao reportedly called de Souza senile in response to his charges that Alemao was responsible for the medium of instruction fiasco in Goa because he had sided with Shashikala Kakodkar in 1990 in denying grants to English medium schools. De Souza was the then opposition leader and had proposed grants to English medium schools, but Alemao, who had deserted the Congress government and supported the MGP to form the PDF government, had opposed the move. Stating that age does not count for being in politics, de Souza insisted that being a man of medicine, he is better qualified to speak on these things. He shot down Alemao's justification that he had sided with Konkani because the Diocesan society wanted it. Showing copies of the assembly debates of July 1990, de Souza said that all along in his entire speech, Alemao had said, We have decided not to give grants to English medium schools, We have done this and We have done that. De Souza said the we referred to Churchill Alemao and Shashikala Kakodkar and nowhere, did Alemao refer to the Diocesan Society. Now suddenly, he (Alemao) wakes up and puts the blame on the Diocesan society, de Souza said. The former chief minister said Alemao had spoken only one truth-that he (de Souza) had asked Alemao not to undertake the repairs of the Saligao market. De Souza said he had drawn up plans to build a brand-new market in Saligao at the cost of 90 lakh through well-known architects Dean D'Cruz and Tulio De Souza. These plans had been forwarded with the chief minister's approval to the Goa state infrastructure development corporation (GSIDC) and the corporation was pursuing the matter. I wanted to avoid duplication of work. But I know why Churchill Alemao wants to repair the market through the district rural development authority (DRDA). That is because he will not get anything if the project is done through the GSIDC. He will certainly get something if it is done through the DRDA because that department is under him, de Souza said. The former Saligao MLA insisted that the government should give grants to English medium primary schools in Goa. He said it is not a matter of whether one group wants it and another group does not. It is purely a question of law. One is the Goa official Language Act, which states that the government cannot discriminate in giving grants to educational institutions only on the basis of language. The other is the central Right To Education (RTE) Act which says that children should be given free and compulsory education. Most children in Goa have to pay for education because they go to English medium schools. This violates the RTE Act, de Souza. When asked about the fear of some that giving grants to English medium schools would wipe out Konkani, de Souza said, For 451 years, the Portuguese ruled Goa. They allowed Marathi schools and English schools, but never allowed even a single Konkani school. But Konkani was never wiped out because it is in the blood of Goans. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/Willy-takes-potshot-at-Churchill-asks-for-his-education-status/articleshow/8281343.cms -- DEV BOREM KORUM Gabe Menezes.

NOU, NOÌ is, used to be a very household item in Goa of wood-fire days when it (mostly of kondó-bamboo) was used to flare up/keep going the kitchen fires. Any hollow tubes. The most loved NOIS in Goa were the ones carried by our Tarvittis containing all their shipping commission and other documents relevant to their work Thei were very valuable as they were hereditary and/or if the tarvotti did noy have a son interested in working aboard a ship, it could be bequethed to a chap of the tarvotti's choice. Aanother instance of NOUì lovingly used in Concanim is: SUNNEACHI XEMPDDI NOUEN GALLEAR KENADNS UBBI ZAINA. Used for any tube but most ubiquitously a bamboo one. It served us all, when young brats, as FOTFOTTI, to be loaded wit TEPLAN / fired off...often with dire results: Ninh re Domnic? Udgas aha? [Goanet] Marathi in Goa.
The article represents wishful thinking : the horse has long left the stable. The language of Goa now is Marathi. Suryaprant outsells all other dailies put together. Mr. Bandodkar dreaded the very thought of Karnataka, and his prediction of the onslaught has come true. I remember the party manifesto posted on walls in 1961: one could term it hate, but in the greater context of our old and complex history, it was logical thinking for a social group that had only just evicted one alien hegemony. To witness the passion, one needs only to travel a few miles to Belgaum, where a Maratha majority seethes under Dravid domination. This is what drives our socio-polity. The die has now been cast, and the Goan Hindu has had the last word. eric. -- The second thing is that when we are imminently in the process of deciding the medium issue, why should we not discard Marathi? It will only be Konkani which will be taught in Goan schools though Marathi could be taken as an optional third language. Since we did not cede to Maharashtra in the past, those that take pride in calling themselves Goans should not have a problem in discarding Marathi. We have to do this at this juncture and there is no point in persisting with Marathi. The logic that the Marathi language gives the Hindu community their fount of art and culture is clearly a misguided notion. Many of the people who gave Marathi its culture in the fine arts were Goans like Bakibab Borkar, Jitendra Abhisheki, Mogubai Kurdikar,Kesarbai Kerkar, Kishori Amonkar, the Mangeshkar music family and many others. An example for this can be taken from among the Konkani people themselves who were forced to flee Goa when the Portuguese came to Goa. The majority of these people settled along the coastal regions of Karnataka and Kerala. Over time this community has contributed in a major way to the life in these two states. Nowhere have these people forsaken the Konkani language. But for some introduction of Kannada and Malayalam words which have slopped into the Konkani language there has been no large-scale corruption of their mother tongue. The konkani people settled in these areas have gone ahead and adapted the local language script and are writing Konkani in the Kanada and Malayalam scripts. In contrast in Goa the Hindu people were quick to forsake their mother tongue and adopt Marathi. The time to correct this aberration has come and we should for the future have only one official language - KONKANI and English. Just paying lip service to Konkani will not suffice and the average Konkani person in Goa should put their hand on their hart and support Konkani wholeheartedly. [The writer is a resident of Alto Betim] COMMENTS: I salute Srinivas Kamat for having a square head on his shoulders for a Hindu Goan. As a matter of fact, I have heavily contradicted his piece of 8th May, 2011 regarding the Portuguese apology to Goa. Therefore it must be remembered that I do not fight people. I fight issues. And I have reminded Srinivas Kamat when he thought that he had lost a friend. For me friendship is one thing and issues another thing altogether. Having said that, I have highlighted the portions in the above piece where my comments are warranted. Konkani compulsorily taught up to X class is what it should be. We must go with Konkani and English side by side together, with Konkani as the MOI in the primary section and English as a subject for smooth transition to the secondary level. Marathi has no meaning in all this as far as education and MOI is concerned. Marathi is the religious language of the Hindus of Goa like Latin was for the Catholic Christians in Goa. It would be a shame to call Marathi as Goa's mother tongue. And whereas the Catholic Christian community of Goa is patriotic to their motherland Goa, the Hindus of Goa are not. This is because the Catholic Christians have jettisoned Latin as their religious language and adopted their liturgy in Romi Konkani. Why the Goan Hindus have not done likewise is because the root cause lies in what Adv. Amrut Kansar has publicly said at the TB Cunha Hall some time ago at a meet when the Curchorem/Savordem first time communal riots was being discussed. What he said was this BAHUSAHEB BANDODKAR IMPORTED HINDU BHATS FROM MAHARASHTRA TO POISON THE MINDS OF GOAN HINDUS As far as I know, it was not Bandodkar as much as his mentor Janardhan Shinkre who is responsible for all this. That the Goan Hindu community by and large is definitely not patriotic to GOA was declared when the Opinon Poll was declared when such malafide thing shouldn't have ever happened to Goa. As to who poisoned Indira Gandhi's mind into declaring this vile Opinion Poll, there is not doubt at all. Further to my salutations, I congratulate Srinivas Kamat for having openly shown his patriotism to Goa and for being a thoroughbred Goan Hindu.

I do not believe that any of the following terms used by Nascy fit Aires i.e. sly, pro-BJP, and Fascist fan. If in doubt, try review his recent attempt and (prospective) arrangements at winning a seat in the CCP elections. If anything, Aires is ONLY 100% pro-Aires, and nobody should get upset about that - as long as no third party is needlessly and unjustifiably jammed in the process. I am not very sure what Aires has accomplished more as a lawyer: (a) Challenging the unscrupulous or (b) Harassing those who cross his path. It is the latter, I believe, which will result (has resulted) in Aires being less successful and less trusted than he should be or could have been. That, and forever being involved in disorder-generating controversies. It is almost as though the learned gentlemen needs to create disorder in order to feel good. As far as the Rahul Gandhi post, it is possible that Aires just made the error of rushing to judgement' - also adding the well worn xenophobic, anti-Sonia cliché containing drivel characteristic of the saffron lot. Not very sure if Aires will withdraw that statement - or merely, as he is known to do, just stand by his words. jc [1] Nascy Caldeira wrote: Aires Rodrigues has hereby proved that he has been and still is a sly and pro BJP/ saffron parties' Fascist fan. [Goanet] TIME TO FEEL ASHAMED OF RAHUL GANDHI
Rahul Gandhi's statement that he is ashamed to be an Indian is an outburst of immaturity. Whatever the context, one cannot understand how an Indian can ever be ashamed of his Nation. Could it be for being half Italian that Rahul Gandhi's feeling Indian is only skin deep? On one hand, we have a bunch of corrupt politicians and on the other, pampered products of dynasty politics, propped up by sycophants. It is time now for every Indian to feel ashamed of Rahul Gandhi and his statement. Aires Rodrigues T1 - B30, Ribandar Retreat Ribandar - Goa - 403006 Mobile: 9822684372

On 13 May 2011 22:43, eric pinto ericpin...@yahoo.com wrote: The daily is Tarunn Bharat. I would give an arm to see the Konkanni language Suryaprant top the list. eric. Eric, The Konkani daily is Sunaparant (golden not sun). Not everything matters on language along, of course, in the dog-eat-dog circulation world, which some large Marathi chains have entered and selling their product for as low as one or two rupees. Not even the cost of the ink spent, forget about paper and news-collection expenses. This is an advertisement-driven game; what it does by way of distortion to news coverage is anyone's guess. It is a fact though that Marathi is largely the literary language of the Goan Hindu (except among a section of 'upper castes' and a few others, post Shenoi Goembab), just as Portuguese was and English is for the Catholic Goan. Just this evening, I was talking about the media in Goa and a health professional noted that matka (two digit gambling) is illegal here, but that some newspapers carry matka results prominently on their pages. No action is taken against them. He specifically named the Tarun Bharat. In addition, Tarun Bharat has also long been a spokesperson for the Hindutva Right (before it got more competition in this sector of late). It has also built its visibility on very detailed local reporting, in a State where most areas go uncovered and badly under-reported. (Ideally, each village should build resources to create its own local reporter.) The joke among media persons, as narrated to me once, is this: papers like Tarun Bharat would cover even an instance of a buffalo falling into a village well. Not just that, the next day's paper would perhaps carry a follow-up report ... going to the extent of mentioning the names of the eleven people who were present to watch the animal being rescued from its watery punishment!

Re: [Goanet] TIME TO FEEL ASHAMED OF RAHUL GANDHI
Aires Rodrigues airesrodrigu...@gmail.com repeated the following stupidity: Rahul Gandhi's statement that he is ashamed to be an Indian is an outburst of immaturity. COMMENT: Time for Aires to visit a good psychiatrist Time for Goa to introduce compulsory English Comprehension in high school Time to Goans to put a protective chip against serial Misrepresenters and Manipulators. jc ps: All the anti-Gandhi froth will still not get Aires a BJP ticket or support even in a Ponchayatt election (Never mind the CCP). [Goanet] Portugal must enhance cultural and sporting ties with Goa Damao and Diu
For 450 year the Portuguese ruled Goa. In a sad event in 1961 Goa was occupied by an other country. In 1974 and in an unfortunate manner Goa was handed over without consent. But since establishing ties with our new governors which includes cultural exchanges, Portugal's response on the whole has been very weak. One movie festival here and there is of no use to developing and enhancing our ties. We want football teams like Porto or Benfica to grace our stadiums with 45000 people waving the Portuguese flag in friendship. In our occupied land one saw music groups llike Osibisa or Uriah Heep, but there is no GNR or Homens de Luta to satisfy our music tastes. For more than 50 years our bands are singing Mama Eu quero uma chupeita. Teachers are required to teach the Portuguese language which was forced to abandoned due to the cultural genocide backed by puppets and neo colonial perpetrators. For those who want to erase history - yeh nahin hoengeh. BC
[Goanet] Is it Liberated or Invaded Goa?
Is it Liberated or Invaded Goa? 19 December 1961 has been considered as a day of Goa's liberation.Looking at the attack on a daring 24 year youth,Nilesh Goankar for fighting to save his village of Cavrem forces me to say,was Goa really liberated or invaded?Few days back, the men in khaki turned out to be goondas for the Cavrem locals and now the same goondas will be investing the attack by the unknown goondas. In today's Goa there are number of Bachao Samitis namely,GBA,GRA,CABS,GXE etc but the interesting question is,Bachao from whom?Is it bachao from the hands of elected people in power? If so,how we can call ourselves as liberated? We belong to a place where there is nothing called as law. This is a place where a bill passed by the elected mafias in Power in more powerful than a Supreme court order. Can the so called law protectors dare to arrest the powerful suspects in the Nilesh attack case? This present government is a part of illegal minning in Goa and they have got the power to use legal as well as illegal means against the people who dare to expose their ugly acts.Only God knows the future of this one time peaceful state of Goa. I remember a Nilesh who sacrificed his precious life to save his village of Kerim during the anti -Nylon 6,6,agitation and now again it is another Nilesh who has been attacked for fighting to save his village from the hands of the mining lobby. Nobody is against mining but everything has got a limit and the limit has been crossed in Goa.We are playing with nature's patience and it is incorrect to do so because when mother nature shows her power,no other power in the world will be able to help us. This present attack on Nilesh Gaonkar reminded me to remember the daring forgotten son of Goa who sacrificed his life during the anti-Nylon 6,6 agitation in Kerim. I take this opportunity to salute the late Nilesh and the Nilesh who at the very young age is all out to save his own village whereas as some of us who call ourselves as historic sold our villages for personal gains. Hope God's law will prevail as I don't trust my Country's law. Joel Morais P.O.Cuncolim, Bencleamvaddo, Salcette,Goa. mob - 9970561727

[Goanet] Hippie Culture Grips Virgin Galgibaga
*Hippie Culture Grips Virgin Galgibaga* * * *Where Olive Ridley turtles crawled majestically on the singing sands of Galgibaga today one sees the hippies in their joyous contortions of open and uninhibited lovemaking on the soft bed of pines of the Casuarinas (trees) that dot the Galgibaga coast. * Lured primarily by its low cost of living and idyllic charm, a steady stream of hippies have decided to call Galgibaga home, full or part time. Once little more than a sleepy hideaway sandwiched between the Arabian Sea and a tiny hillock with two parallel rivers, and two communities living in perfect harmony, Turtle haven Galgibaga in Canacona, South Goa, is a picture-perfect paradise. Sad as it is, even as we continue to bask in our chimera of paradise, the tragedy of a frightening reality, spreading its tentacles slowly but surely bringing with it decay and despair veiled as development and progress, goes untold. Turtle haven Galgibaga Beach is the last frontier still unspoilt by the goodies of tourism and till recently was the only family destination where families could enjoy the beach without parents having to squirm in embarrassment over the naked flesh lying around. The social fabric of this laid-back village has also already suffered signs of visible deterioration largely due to unchecked drug trafficking, booze binges, beach parties and nudism that are a part of the hippie invasion. “It is very sad that our beloved Galgibaga is gradually turning into yet another haven of sun, sand, wine, women and sex for the hippies. Greed is what functions now. Anything goes as long as one keeps counting the fast money that flows in. Everything else has suddenly become peripheral which is what cries for the attention of the local people and the administrators,” says Mrs. Carmine Fernandes. Where Olive Ridley turtles crawled majestically on the singing sands of Galgibaga today one sees the hippies in their joyous contortions of open and uninhibited lovemaking on the soft bed of pines of the Casuarinas (trees) that dot the Galgibaga coast which has seen thousands of hatchlings finding their way to the sea since 2000-01. Gulf-based Mr. Barreto remarks “there is an urgent need to strike a balance. Tourists related activities need to be carried out with proper checks and measures otherwise the ill-effects of tourism will out-measure the benefits leading to terrible consequences for the village and its people. Unfortunately, our ravenous administrators have failed to initiate appropriate strategies to combat the tourism related problems that have been swept under the carpet for too long.” Meanwhile the locals are fighting the commercialization of the eco-sensitive area which is notified as heritage landscape under the banner of Poinguinkaracho Ekvott, (PE) a social front launched a few months. Kishore Poinguikar of PE says “we have been fighting to preserve our heritage and the matter is due to come up before the High Court.” -- Tony Martin Copy/Content Writing http://www.facebook.com/tonymartingoaGalgibaga, Canacona

Norbert Carvalho has just described the work that 'Blue Bottom' flies do. These flies are also known as Blue a**se flies. These flies have an inbuilt instinct to smell what is good for them. [Goanet] Urus of Babal Pir Durgah today
Urus of Babal Pir Durgah today Rajendra P Kerkar, TNN | May 14, 2011, 06.16am IST KERI: The annual Urus at Babal Pir Durgah of Sanquelim will be celebrated on May 14 with the Qawwali programme and other religious events. Dattawadi in Sanquelim town has the historic shrine of Babal Pir which is the symbol of communal harmony right from the pre-Portuguese period. Muslims along with Christians and Hindus celebrate the annual event of Urus, a highlight of which is a question and answer session through musical consort. The well-known qawwali singers Salim Sholla and Rubi Taj from Kanpur, UP, will present the qawwali. The secretary of Babal Pir Durgah committee, Sheikh Muhmad Parvez, said, The Urus is the annual event associated with this shrine that brings not only residents of Sanquelim together but also from the surrounding villages irrespective of religion and caste to pay their humble respects to the pious saint. Babal Pir, was a pious saint who lived during the pre-Portuguese era in Sanquelim town. He emphasized the importance of humanitarian principles and the spirit of brotherhood. In the temple of Shri Bhumka of Poriem, while invoking the deity, reference is made to Babal Pir. Hindus along with the Muslims respect the shrine and assemble on various occasions to express their gratitude to the saint. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/Urus-of-Babal-Pir-Durgah-today/articleshow/8305456.cms
[Goanet] IS THE EXPENDITURE ON GOVERNORS JUSTIFIED?
The time has come to rethink whether we really can afford such astronomical spending being incurred on State Governors. In Goa, a whopping 135 staff take care of Governor Dr. S.S Sidhu and the Raj Bhavan. This does not include the heavy security paraphernalia around him including his Z+ security. The unwarranted expenditure on Governors is an absolute waste of taxpayers’ money. It has become a ceremonial post. Governors have become non-functional and all they do is enjoy their last few years in public life at the cost of the State exchequer. Mr. N.D Tiwari had to resign in December 2009 as Andhra Pradesh Governor in the wake of allegations of sexual misconduct. He is now scheduled to appear in Delhi High Court on 1st June to give his blood sample in connection with a paternity suit filed against him. Goa however has witnessed an exceptionally good Governor with Lt. General J.F.R. Jacob in office from April 1998 to November 1999. The State was under President’s rule during the first half of 1999. During that period Governor Jacob ruled with a team of only two advisors Alban Couto and M.N. Buch. Lt. General Jacob made the secretariat accessible to ordinary citizens and paid surprise visits to bus stands, local hospitals and Government offices. There was a total crackdown on corruption.
