[Goanet] Fw: Press Statement for Kind Favour of Publication - Re: LAADLI LAXMI SCHEME
- Original Message - From: floriano To: Gomantak Times Sent: Sunday, September 23, 2012 11:07 AM Subject: Press Statement for Kind Favour of Publication - Re: LAADLI LAXMI SCHEME September 23, 2012 To, The Editor, Gomantak Times, St. Inez, Panjim-Goa. Sir, Sub: LAADLI LAXMI SCHEME The Page three Report of GT WEEKENDER captioned LAADLI LAXMI SCHEME- RTI REVEALS CM OVERRULED DIRECTOR'S PROPOSAL ON INCOME CEILING makes a very interesting reading. This Party has always considered this as not a 'SCHEME' but a 'S C A M' from it's very inception. That the marriage prospects of Goan Laadlis should be the major concern of the Government at the tax payer's costs instead of 'jobs' prospects had spelled out the Manohar Parrikar's governent's VOTE-BANK POLITICS AGENDA, an idea conceived after coming to power. If the same was included in the BJP's Manifesto for the 2012 Elections, it would be fully justified on the basis of being a WELFARE SCHEME. Also, the initial distribution of the forms through BJP MLAs told the vote-bank story from cover to cover. The earthing of the reported vital information through RTI by Adv. Aires Rodrigues is very much applauded. This Party has gone on record to say that more such 'WELFARE SCHEMES' are required but the genuineness of such schemes must be the order of the day. In this report, Manohar Parrikar's agenda of making the BJP popular with the Goan masses has been totally exposed. This Party wants this 'scheme' to be a genuine 'scheme' and not a 's c a m' that it is. Therefore this Party demands that the management of this 'scheme' in it's entirety must be handed-over to the Government's 'SOCIAL WELFARE' Department with an appropriate ceiling on INCOME so that the benefits of the Tax Payer's money do go to the rightfully deserving Goans. Also, this Party insists that the BJP's super hero CM of Goa conceives a similar scheme for Goa's LAADLA LAXMANs so that those coming out looking for a JOB do get some pocket money to survive until a job opportunity shows up and not be forced to go on hunger strikes to demand jobs. The IIT'an Manohar Parrikar must realize that his going on the TV to be kissed by a child does not fool Goans and stop them from seeing through this SCAM in the same manner that X-Rays do. The IIT'an Manohar Parrikar must also realize that he cannot fool all GOANS all the time with his cheap TV gimmicks, and, therefore, this Party would want him to refer to the following quote if it is found in India's Esteemed IIT Institutions: You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time. [Goanet] Madness in Mumbai - Stray Thoughts of a Toronto Goan
By Roland Francis Title: Madness in Mumbai - Stray Thoughts of a Toronto Goan Source: Goan Voice UK Daily Newsletter 23 Sep. 2012 at www.goanvoice.org.uk There is an old saying in the financial industry that is true of any other. What goes up must come down. If that is true, there is a lot of coming down that is on the cards for Bombay and hence India and by natural extension, Goa. Manmohan Singh is a wily old Prime Minister. Highly qualified both in education as well as in national and international financial positions, he alone, with the mood of a nation behind him, was credited with bringing India to a level the world celebrated. However, he has just sounded a sober note in a speech to the nation, a kind of death knell to anyone reading between the lines. To some who likened India's all-too-quick rise to a mere bubble that was bound to burst, what he warns about was seen as the inevitable result. In practical terms, for ages there was the Bombayite, or Bomoicar as he is known in Konkani, a struggling middle class denizen, living from salary to salary, denied of anything that could be deemed remotely luxurious including foreign travel. Suddenly, as if the QE2 turned on a dime, witness his measly square footage become worth the price and then some, of a spacious and pretty home in a mid-sized city in North America on the right side of the proverbial tracks. He was earning by some magic, in Purchasing Power Parity terms, much more than a median wage in Europe and was travelling the world over, jet-setting and cruise sailing, Zagat and Michelin in hand. He was investing in high priced equities, precious metals and real estate in the suburbs. He was buying cars his parents only saw and spending on restaurants and entertainment alone, thrice the full salary he earned less than a decade ago. His cousin in Goa fared not any less. His was not the money that came from a booming economy and a well-paying job in a corporation that was flush with Foreign Direct Investment. It came in the form of tens of millions in local currency from the sale of ancestral land that was once not worth the labor it took to cultivate and care. The magic of tourism, the ill-gotten and corrupting political wealth, the greed of Goan miners deriving their tainted profits from sources that were non-renewable, seemed to overfill the pockets of everyday and every class Goans. What they didn't realize while they were getting their sudden wealth was that land once sold was gone forever, that the Goan landscape once destroyed could not be made half-pristine again. They were in the dark. Manmohan Singh was not. He knew what was bound to happen but chose to be helpless in the face of it all. People who put their trust in their Prime Minister were betrayed by the seeming spinelessness of a man who didn't seem to know or care about the puppet masters who played him and his success. In any case he wasn't sure the masses would hear him while they were having it so good. He should have at least tried. Now that he is pushed against the wall, he is fighting back. Perhaps his manipulators have no choice but to let him do what needs to be done, if it can be done at all. He talks about how subsidies can no longer be given, how interest rates may rise. How India's economy is slowing down while inflation speeds up and its fortune no longer separated from the ills plaguing its patrons in the West. How 1991, when India ran out of foreign currency and had to pledge gold to its lenders could happen all over again. He likens India's future to Greece if things don't change. What he doesn't say is that bribery and corruption must stop. Perhaps he has no guts to implement that or to be fair to him, he knows that it is too endemic and beyond him or anyone else currently in power. To aam aadmi the Indian term for a common man, the Bomoicar and the man in Goa and others like them, that could only mean one thing - a return to the bad old times. Re: [Goanet] Dhobi Talao Circle - below ground.
Yes Doc, I remember both. The running helter skelter to cross from the school side to B X Furtado and L M Furtado or to the Metro Cinema and thereafter from the cinema to Kyani and Bastani. It was a wonder of Bombay that few accidents took place on that circle without any rules and traffic directions and given the density of that locale. Also, pleasant memories of the 'crumb chops' or cutlets, with a generous helping of gravy all for 4 annas with one anna added for a loaf of bread at the Castle Hotel. Did you tell the daughter about it when forking out the fifty rupees for the modern and I am sure much smaller version? Re: [Goanet] Soccer on Sunday
Hi Uday, The Catholic Church will have nothing to say about it. In worldly terms, the Catholic Church is a liberal entity. The Presbyterian Church is not. The best comparison is between an Obama and a Romney who both by the way are Christians. The Catholic Church struggles between a conservative doctrine espoused by the likes of the current Pope and the practical living of much of its followers who believe that their Church is about 200 years behind the times. This is what an Italian Catholic Cardinal said in a newspaper interview just before he died and he couldn't have said it any better. Roland. Toronto. To: goanet@lists.goanet.org Subject: [Goanet] Soccer on Sunday I was intrigued by the enclosed item. I wonder what is the stand of the Roman Catholic Church on the subject. Best regards, U. G. Aires Rodrigues wrote: After decades of hectic lobbying, the efforts of civil society for getting the Right to Information law in place bore fruit on 15 June 2005 when the President of India gave assent to the Right to Information Act 2005. Over the last seven years however the greater challenge has been the actual implementation of the Act. -- Aires, 1) The RTI act is one which we all have to be thankful for. It was an amazing step forward and people did make use of it to better the society they live in. 2) I admire you for making use of this law to expose what is going on in Goa today. 3) May you have success in inspiring others in Goa to what they can accomplish with this law. Even Manohara Parricar is a de facto Portuguese, except for Fred Noronha a defacto carioca. Goans are brainwashed into terms as 'liberation' and 'independence day not knowing that they are a part of Portugal. Now many are turning to our former administrators because of the need be, as those leaflets from Libia Lobo Sardessai did not help for anything. BC It is a little known fact that all Goans born in Goa prior to 19 Dec 1961, are de-facto Portuguese citizens, and their citizenship has not been lost as a result of Indians forcing their citizenship on to Goans. Those Goans, except those who were then in Govt service and forced to revoke their nationality (which is why many of them left Goa, except for Pe. Chico Monteiro), are still passive Portuguese citizens. Allen de Sa?was my contemporary at Dhempe's, therefore he would be one of those Goans born prior to 19 Dec 1961, and consequently, still a de-facto Portuguese citizen.? ? Please correct me if I am wrong, but I do not think enrolment in Govt service means a revoking of Portuguese nationality, unless he specifically signed a document to that effect.? ? Gabriel.???
[Goanet] Seminar on Portuguese Citizenship (by Rose Fernandes)
Dear fellow goanet readers Saving my last puffs of fairy dust to welcome someone when she returns magically to the green, green grass of goanet so unable to puff it on my OCI to change it into an Indian Passport. Usually at this point, I am at tucking into some nice Goan goodies to get me out of another State of Goan Confusion but I can't call on my sweet advisor to suggest any as she has gone into silent mode. When Roland Francis advised that an Indian Passport is the same as an OCI, minus voting rights, what a relief, none of us need any voting rights anyway, we have already voted Goa as the Paradise of the East. Roland Francis writes: Quote In Goa, there are thousands of Portuguese passport holders who acquired Portuguese nationality within the last 30 years who have not given up their Indian citizenship although that is the law. Unquote The lifespan of my British Passport is 10 years after which it is dead and buried in my memories box, the photograph on it a constant reminder of how young I once looked. Another mystery to solve, these thousands of Portuguese passport holders who acquired Portuguese nationality within the last 30 years, have they obtained these passports to put in glass cases to show off on the walls of their homes, a memento of past times? Are these Portuguese Passports over and out, still valid in case they need to leave Goa all at once? Is this why a bigger airport needs to be built on the Goan horizon? Surely all record breaking stuff... FN needs to wake up from day dreaming of life as a taxi driver in the US and hit goanet news on the ground running. I can think of one Bombay wallah who writes an excellent Laugh of the Day. Rose Fernandes Thornton Heath, Surrey, United Kingdom 23 September 2012
Re: [Goanet] Allen de Sa holds dual citizenship: Mickky
That is correct. Those born in Goi before 1961 are all P*rtuguese citizens and once Endia 'invaded' (they were not invited!), Goichis were naturalized Endian citizens (by default). Goa, D D are the only Por*** colonies offering citizenship if not mistakenand there is a reason for thateither the case (now withdrawn) at the UN and something in the Por*** constitution (forget which). On Sun, Sep 23, 2012 at 4:32 AM, Gabriel de Figueiredo gdefigueir...@yahoo.com.au wrote: It is a little known fact that all Goans born in Goa prior to 19 Dec 1961, are de-facto Portuguese citizens, and their citizenship has not been lost as a result of Indians forcing their citizenship on to Goans. Those Goans, except those who were then in Govt service and forced to revoke their nationality (which is why many of them left Goa, except for Pe. Chico Monteiro), are still passive Portuguese citizens. Allen de Sa was my contemporary at Dhempe's, therefore he would be one of those Goans born prior to 19 Dec 1961, and consequently, still a de-facto Portuguese citizen. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I do not think enrolment in Govt service means a revoking of Portuguese nationality, unless he specifically signed a document to that effect. Gabriel. Please note that, the Registration Form WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED VIA E-MAIL. Dear Rev. Fathers, Rev. Sisters and my dear People, Once again, we are at the threshold of another Unity Congress which is scheduled to be held on the 24th, 25th, 26th and 27th of September, 2012, in the Holy Family Cathedral, Kuwait City. The four day sessions are in the evening from 5.30 to 9.30. This year we have chosen FAITH as the topic for our deliberations. I feel, this year being the Year of Faith declared by the Holy Father Pope Benedict XVI, the topic chosen for the Congress V is quite relevant. Two eminent dogmatic theologians, one from India and the other from the Philippines, have agreed to come for the orientation talks and for guiding the discussions during the Sessions. All the Parish Priests and the rest of the Clergy together with the maximum number of Faithful from all the four Parishes, are most cordially invited to participate in the Congress. All the normal pastoral activities in the Parishes should be suspended during these four days of the Seminar. Kuwait Pastoral Council (KPC) is entrusted with the organization of the program. Dear Brothers and Sisters, I can gratefully recollect the four Unity Congresses we had during the past years and your participation in big numbers. The enthusiasm you showed and the cooperation you rendered for the success of those seminars were really encouraging. May I once again expect the same response from all of you. Hence, hereby I formally invite all of you to the Fifth Kuwait Unity Congress for a lively participation and a fruitful interaction in the Sessions. Sire, You are confusing my identity! My parents told me that I was Paulista. And btw, we lived in what became one of the ten most polluted cities in the world. Re: [Goanet] Soccer on Sunday
Hi Roland, We always like to believe that *our* own beliefs are liberal and those of someone else are conservative. Catholicism has (like other religions too, and even global politics) seen an intense conservative revolution take control since the past two or three decades. Of course, things were forced to move in a different direction for a brief while in the 1960s. But that is history. The bulk of today's Catholics are poor, and have an unrepresentative leadership. Things could change in Goa, because the elites don't see religion as a lever of control, at least in Catholicism. It is little consolation that some other religions are more conservative and orthodox. Besides, there is an attempt to show people-unlike-us to be somehow worse off though adverse comparisons. FN On 23 September 2012 19:47, Roland Francis roland.fran...@gmail.com wrote: The Catholic Church will have nothing to say about it.

What is the church doing for its people ? we do not know in the first case where our money is going . Today our church has become a builder's lobby. Now it is building a 20 crore project for retreat house when we have no preachers onlyu
