UNDP 2013 Human Development Report now available: http://hdr.undp.org/en/reports/global/hdr2013/download/ About Human Development The first Human Development Report in 1990 opened with the simply stated premise that has guided all subsequent Reports: “People are the real wealth of a nation.” By backing up this assertion with an abundance of empirical data and a new way of thinking about and measuring development, the Human Development Report has had a profound impact on policies around the world. Mahbub ul Haq (JPG) The basic purpose of development is to enlarge people's choices. In principle, these choices can be infinite and can change over time. People often value achievements that do not show up at all, or not immediately, in income or growth figures: greater access to knowledge, better nutrition and health services, more secure livelihoods, security against crime and physical violence, satisfying leisure hours, political and cultural freedoms and sense of participation in community activities. The objective of development is to create an enabling environment for people to enjoy long, healthy and creative lives. [Goanet] Destroyoing Goa, one hillside at a time
To Goanet - Manohar-bab, this is what is happening under your watch. This morning I got a good look at the mega-monstrosity coming up on the hillside at Reis Magos. It is visible from Panjim, across the water from Children's Park. But for a really expansive view, you have to go to Verem. Think about it: these will all be outsiders, many of them with ill-gotten money, occupying the flats and villas constructed by destroying an irreplaceable piece of Goan land. This represents the dismantling of Goa. We thought Parrikar would be the man to finally put an end to this. Looks like we erred. Manohar Parrikar has been silent about this and the other 2 mega-projects (Ashok Beleza and Ocean Park). Why is Dr. Anand Virgincar, Parrikar's #1 shill, silent about this? Dr. Virgincar is a brilliant man, a good human being, who has nothing personal to gain from his activism, who cares about and loves Goa deeply. I publicly appeal to him to call on his dear friend, the Chief Minister, to immediately halt these atrocities. Here is the wide view seen from Verem - http://www.parrikar.org/images/samples/reismagos1.jpg And these are close-ups of 3 sections. [Goanet] are you children happy ?
i often hear people saying two children a happy world but want to ask you one question are your children happy ? The answer is no. If don't believe this just stand at any school gate at the time when the school gets over and see how your children behave. You will find children playing , eating some thrash like ice fruit, kurkurem or samosas and dancing and playing in the school compound. One day my daughter came home with her friend. I am always at home for lunch as I do not have a proper permanent job. This friend of hers was so happy to be with us . She ate with my children, chatted the whole evening and was so excited that when she was leaving as she had to be home before her mother could come home that she told us that she has found a happy home and would like to visit us often.
[Goanet] Congress lead government will empower Indian girls with a license to have SEX at 16!!
The Gen Next might be more informed today, but information doesn't bring maturity. At least in our society this holds true. Yes, Gen Next is for CHANGE but that does not mean change in everything without considering the implications a change will bring about! 16 is not the correct age for indulging in sex because despite the sex education being imparted in the schools, most of the girls, especially in rural India and smaller cities, aren't aware about the health hazards. It can land the girls with unwanted pregnancies, which they may want to abort. Now abortion is proved to be risky for an adolescent. At 16 or so, it is the time to focus on education, career and to have a great bond with family. And giving a license to indulge in sex at such an early age will distract a girl completely from her goals. By law, girl isn't perceived to be capable of voting at 16; at 16, girls don't have the right to get a license for a four-wheeler and Congress lead government is bent on giving girls a right to have sex at 16? Will this government also change the age for voting and getting driving license to 16? Best regards, U. G. Barad

[Goanet] Paribhashtan-Minister's kin eyes Serula comunidade, poll deferred again
MAPUSA: The government, at the last moment, has cancelled the election to Serulacomunidade scheduled for Sunday even as it will conduct polls of other comunidade bodies. Gaunkars and share holders who were readying to cast their vote on Sunday were left disappointed as the election has been deferred once again. In the past, senior politicians have shown interest in Serula comunidade polls for obvious reasons. And sources say, this time, it is no different and that is perhaps, one of the reasons why the elections have been deferred. Sources said that a minister's brother has taken keen interest in the poll and is attempting to control the comunidade. On the Porvorim plateau itself, several commercial establishments including some along Chogm road are in comunidade land. A gaunkar said that an influential person who was allotted a small space is running a construction material business on the site. While Congress leader Dayanand Narvekar and others used to take control of the comunidade in the past, now politicians of the ruling party, notwithstanding their statements to keep politics out of such organizations, are busy to wrest control of the body, sources said. Addressing a press conference in Mapusa on Saturday, the gaunkars of the Serula comunidade informed that the election was initially to be held on December 2, which was postponed to December 20 by the administrator. Later, the elections were fixed for January 20. It is now postponed with no fresh date given for the elections. The order was issued on Thursday by the administrator that the elections will be held on January 20. On Friday, a fresh order was issued stating the elections are postponed without explaining any reasons for the postponement, said Joseph Pinto, who is contesting the election for the first time. There is a fear and anxiety in the minds of the gaunkars of the Serula comunidade as to why the officials are playing hide-and-seek in holding the election. The chief minster should intervene and resolve the issues, Pinto said. We want the elections to be held peacefully as per the Code of the comunidades. We heard that some are recontesting the elections but as per the code's Article 50, sitting representative cannot contest the election again, said Denis D'Souza, a gaunkar. We want transparent elections to be held. Our main contention is why the delay in holding the elections. Reasons should be explained, and we want the elections to be held via secret ballot paper and not through the show of hands, D'Souza said. Serula comunidade comprises the villages of Socorro, Salvador do Mundo, Penha da Franca and Ecoxim part of Pomburpa. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/goa/Ministers-kin-eyes-Serula-comunidade-poll-deferred-again/articleshow/18095533.cms
Re: [Goanet] Destroyoing Goa, one hillside at a time
Sometime back I and Dr. Dumo (GSRP's President) were given complementaries by a good friend of ours to a 'Rose Ferns' tiatr running at the KA, telling us that it was a politically scripted tiart and a must see for political persons like us. And we did see this tiatr together, more out of curiosity (though I never do so because I get more irritated than enjoy the substandard tom foolery which is dished out). I don't remember the name of this tiatr but the scene was that a young man makes it to the CM's position with all the help from his dedicated mother. But the ending was such that the mother had to shoot and kill her own son who had become worst than his predecessors. Did I enjoy this tiatr? Hell No. But all the while that I was forced to watch this stupidity, I was planning to meet Rose Ferns back stage after the show and give him a piece of my mind. And I did just that. I told him that if he wanted to stage political tiarts in the future, he should see that the people go home with a POSITVE thought about our Goan politics, a thought to treasure, a sense of awakening, so that the people get to see that a good CM can put all crooks behind bars too and not get involved with them. That the NEGATIVE must be changed to POSITIVE if Goa's politics has to redeemed since tiatr is the best SOCIAL CHANGER for GOA. Was Rose Ferns listening to what I was telling him? I wonder! And, Why am I saying this?? Perhaps, Dr. Anand Virginkar will know. :-) Cheers floriano goasuraj 9890470896 - Original Message - From: Rajan P.
