Re: [Goanet] STRESS FOR TUBERCULOSIS PATIENTS AT GOA MEDICAL COLLEGE HOSPITAL

2015-01-18 Thread Stephen Dias
Dear Jose,

I have sent the same mail to present Health Minister Francisco D'Sousa
and Chief Minister of Goa Laxmikant Parsekar and also to our ex-Chief
Minister who has been elevated as Defence Minister of India Manohar
Parrikar for their information and implementation. I have no hopes to
receive their reply from any of them.
I am lucky that I have immediately received a phone call from a family
friend of mine who is In-charge of same TB Hospital Dr. Antonio Mesquita
who informed me that there was some difficulties getting a new X-Ray
machine inspite of his repeated request to the Govt of Goa which is now
been cleared by the Accounts section and it appears that the new latest
X-ray machine which he says it is DIGITAL should receive after few months
or so. Lets us keep our fingers crossed.
Until then they were sending patients of higher degree of TB, to GMC
hospital for counter check up of tuberculosis as their old machine used to
fail intermittently. He was also surprised why this happened to my patient
and I told him that I had another two similar cases.
This particular patient of mine was continuously coughing and that other
Non -TB patients in that queue were uncomfortable. That is the reason I
took up the matter and contacted various officers from administration at
the GMC.
Dean and Medical Superintendent were non available in their seat. Only the
Asst Director of Administration promised me that she will ask the Dean and
issue a circular to Radiology Dept for rectification based on my complaint.
I have also made a written complain to the Dean's Office in writing and I
have with me a Inward dispatch number as a proof.
Let us hope all the TB patients gets some relief in future.

Regards

Stephen Dias

[Goanet] Mystery surrounds death of Sunanda Puskar

2015-01-18 Thread Nelson Lopes
Sunanda Puskar, mystery death

It appears that knowingly and willingly, consciously and unconsciously she
has invited on herself. She was a well placed individual in her own rights
financially and perhaps lonely, Her decision to cast her fortunes with the
man was not sound after all. She knew very well about his other two failed
marriages and perhaps thought that with her charm, the relations will be
different and lasting. She might have enjoyed the limelight and glitz for a
while, only to regret it with her very close associates She was tormented
with his dilly dallying and seriously doubted , jealously his relationship
with Pakistani journalist and his biography writer

A storm is being raised in public domain, print and electronic media about
her murder, Serious questions are floated about possible causes and
motives for her sudden demise under mysterious circumstances after her
declared intention to go public and not to appropriate blame on herself
.There too may inconsistencies in the deposition of stake holders and all
those who came in connect with just prior to her death .It is easy to
blame her as dead person speaks no tales, she needs as much justice as
those who are alive and who are possible suspects

It is a high profile case with political overtones and much at stake, What
is worrying is that there are thousands o cases of murders of ordinary
mortals that are buried, ignored, shelved and closed. The system is not fair
and just to devote time , energy resources and, publicity in this
aforementioned case alone.

[Goanet] STRESS FOR TUBERCULOSIS PATIENTS AT GOA MEDICAL COLLEGE HOSPITAL

2015-01-18 Thread Stephen Dias
  LINKING GOVERNMENT HOSPITALS REQUIRED

The Government of Goa is planning for e-governance at various government
departments so that the public is not put into inconvenience. It so happen
that one patient who was suspected of Tuberculosis at TB –Hospital, St Ines
(Batlem), was sent for an X-Ray to be done at GMC Bambolim with a
requisition slip.

When this lady went to GMC for the X-Ray, she was asked first to get a case
paper done although she had a requisition slip from TB Hospital which seems
to be inefficient and a duplication of effort.

When I approached the GMC for suggestion, I could not find either the
Medical Superintendent, or the Dean GMC, and after inquiring with the Head
Clerk/Superintendent, they were unable to give me a solution. In turn they
suggested meeting the Asst. Director of Administration who was also
ignorant of these rules. My request to the Dean is that he should make
appropriate arrangements for such matters since the TB could infect other
normal patients in the queue at the Case paper counter and again at X-Ray
Dept. Or else TB patients must be given a preference with a separate
distant counter. The linking of case papers from different Government
Hospitals in the State will be a relief to poor patients suffering,
especially from Tuberculosis.

Health Minister Francisco D'Sousa, is also requested to get in touch with
Dean of GMC and make the situation much easier for patients suffering from
Tuberculosis diseases.

[Goanet] Christians slam Modi for not condemning church attacks/ Police arrest suspects in Delhi church attack

Christians slam Modi for not condemning church attacks

PM remains silent after four incidents in Delhi in six weeks.

Posted on January 15, 2015, 5:36 PM

  New Delhi:
Indian Prime Minister Narender Modi is coming under fire from
Christian leaders and the opposition Congress Party for not condemning
several recent attacks on churches in New Delhi.

In the latest
incident — the fourth in less than two months — a Marian grotto at a
parish church was found vandalized on Wednesday.

CCTV footage
showed two people arriving on a motorbike and one of them breaking glass
in the grotto, said Father Savarimuthu Shankar, Delhi archdiocese
spokesman.

Church leaders say they see a pattern in the attacks
and suspect members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), an
umbrella group for Hindu hardliners and the political wing of Modi's
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

"These are not isolated events. It is the fourth attack on a church in Delhi
archdiocese since December 1," Father Shankar said.

Such attacks on Christians have increased ever since Modi came to power last
May, he added.

Modi's
political opponents say Hindu hardliners, who are pushing for a
Hindu-only India, are emboldened by the BJP's election victory.

Despite media reporting on several attacks, Modi has not made any public
statement condemning them.

"The
prime minister owes an answer to all In fact his silence is
eloquent and disturbing," opposition Congress Party spokesman Abhishek
Singhvi told ucanews.com on Wednesday.

He said Hindu hardliners
are "deliberately and consistently" trying to lead the country toward
polarization, especially with state elections due in Delhi next month.

According
to John Dayal, a lay Catholic leader, "a political attempt at
polarization of the people would be the first explanation as to why
these incidents are taking place”.

Dayal, also a member of the
National Integration Council, questioned Modi's silence on the attacks.
He said although Modi has assured security to the minority Christian
community, he has yet to take action to stop hate campaigns and comments
 by right-wing activists.

“I still feel the prime minister must
openly denounce such attacks on religious minorities and denounce those
involved ... even if they belong to his own Sangh Parivar [clan of
pro-Hindu groups],” he added.

However, Hindu groups say "it is not fair" to blame them for the incidents.

"These
are small and isolated incidents ... essentially related to a law and
order issue. We would appreciate it if law enforcement agencies take
prompt and timely actions. We would also appreciate if people also have
faith in the law enforcement agencies," RSS leader Pradip Joshi told
ucanews.com.

"We do not endorse any act of vandalism and it will
not be fair to put blame on organizations or individuals if some
individuals have been found involved in some incidents,” said BJP
leader, Ravinder Kapur, echoing the same view.

Protestant leaders say a Modi denouncement of the attacks would ease the
situation.

“The
silence of the prime minister encourages those forces which want to
create tension in society. Attacks even on places of worship are not
taken seriously,” Samuel Jaykumar of the National Council of Churches in
 India, told ucanews.com.

He said the attitude of the federal government toward these incidents is making
the Christian community feel unsafe.

Father
Shankar said an ecumenical group including three bishops met with Modi
around Christmas and the prime minister "refused to make a statement
about attacks on Christians".

Modi told them the reported attacks were "media hype" to counter his
"development agenda," Father Shankar said.

Prior
to Wednesday's incident, a mysterious fire gutted a church on December
1, while stones were thrown at another church two weeks later. Over
Christmas, a Nativity scene at a parish church was also set on fire.

International Cricketer Pataudi & Actress Sharmila
Tagore's Son,
Saif Ali Khan: Intermarriage is not jihad, it is India

Mumbai, October 16, 2014: I am the son of a sportsman,
I grew up in England, Bhopal, Pataudi, Delhi and Mumbai, and I am more Indian
than any Hindu or Muslim I know because I am both. I wrote this piece not to
comment on the masses or the problems of communalism in India and its villages,
but because this is an issue that concerns my friends and their families.

It wasn’t peacefully accepted by anyone, initially,
when my parents wanted to marry. The royals had their issues; the Brahmins
theirs. And, of course, extremists on both religious sides issued death
threats. But the marriage still happened — the fact that my grandmother also
had to fight to marry the not-as-wealthy and therefore not-so-suitable nawab of
Pataudi might have helped things along. We grew up on real-life romantic
stories about our elders marrying for love and not worrying too much about
tradition. And we were brought up to believe that god is one, with many names.

When Kareena and I married, there were similar death
threats, with people on the Net saying ridiculous things about “love jihad”. We
follow whatever religion or spiritual practice we believe in. We talk about
them and respect each other’s views. I hope our children will do the same.

I have prayed in church and attended mass with Kareena,
while she has bowed her head at dargahs and prayed in mosques. When we purified
our new home, we had a havan and a Quran reading and a priest sprinkling holy
water — no chances taken!

What is religion? What is faith? Does a perfect
definition exist? I don’t know. But I know doubt. I’m intrigued by the politics
of doubt. Doubt gives us faith. Doubt keeps us questioning what keeps us alive.
If we become sure of something, then there is a danger of becoming fanatical.

Religion needs to be separated from a lot of things.
Our religions are based on fear. The Old Testament spoke of a Promised Land for
a people, but there were people already living there. The problem is still
burning today. There have been too many atrocities committed in the name of god.

I know good people are scared of marrying their
daughters to Muslims. They fear conversion, quick divorces, multiple marriages
— basically, it suits the boys a bit more than the girls. All this is
undoubtedly outdated. A lot of Islam needs to modernise and renew itself in
order to be relevant. We also need a loud moderate voice to separate the good
from the evil. Islam today is more unpopular than it has ever been. This is a
great shame to me, as I have always thought of Islam as the moon, the desert,
calligraphy and flying carpets, the thousand and one nights. I have always
thought about it as a religion of peace and submission. As I grew older, I saw
religion twisted and used so badly by men that I distanced myself from all
man-made religion. I choose to be as spiritual as I can be.

Anyway, I digress. The good news is that no one needs
to convert from their religion to get married. The Special Marriage Act, when
applicable, is the paramount law of the land. If you marry under this, it is
upheld over any religious law. It is truly secular.

The fabric of India is woven from many threads —
English, Muslim, Hindu and many others. A major concern in today’s India is
that we keep deleting our past. To say Muslims don’t have a role in India is
denying their importance and contribution. It is like saying women don’t have a
part to play in India. Why do we need to deny Islam? It’s what we are. We come
with our mix. To deny this is to cheat us of our inheritance. I don’t know what
“love jihad” is. It is a complication created in India.

I know intermarriages because I am a child of one and
my children are born out of it. Intermarriage is not jihad. Intermarriage is
India. India is a mix. Ambedkar said the only way to annihilate caste is
intermarriage. It is only through intermarriage that the real Indians of
tomorrow can be truly equipped to take our nation forward with the right
perspective. I am the product of such a mixed marriage and my life has been
full of Eid and Holi and Diwali. We were taught to do adaab and namaste with
equal reverence.

It is sad that too much importance is given to
religion,

Dear Robin Viegas,
Thanks for Petitioning to Obama Administration concerning the Hidden Agenda
of the incumbent Prime Minister Narendra Modi' s and his coteries.

RELIGION IS A SECRET SUBJECT, which cannot be debated upon and spoken in
condemnation by any one irrespective whether it is conversion or
re-conversion. These so called authorities of RSS and the VHP has no right
or authority to speak of Ghar Wapsi and so forth as they do not have any
knowledge about Religion and God for that matter and must be out rightly
condemned for their hatredness on Christian Religion.

The World Religion Leaders must be made aware of burning issue in India on
some Christians plights in North especially, burning Churches, beatings of
those who converted themselves to Christianity and the nefarious plans of
the so called RSS and VHP leaders and its clan.

Until and unless this serious issue on physical & verbal abuse, arson of
churches, forcible re-conversion etc., is addressed by President Barack
Obama to the Indian Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi when he visit's India
for Republic day Parade as a special guest honour, possible of further
escalation on Ghar Wapsi on Christians and Muslims may go unabated and
further create Chaos and dampening spirits for all minority groups in India
as a whole. So something must be done before this happens to nip it in the
bud.

[Goanet] UK - Sad News

2015-01-18 Thread Melvyn Fernandes
Hi all

Happy Monday.

Sad news.   With the drop in tourists going to Goa, Britain's invisible exports
have taken a massive hit in revenue for those creamier chocolate parcels going
to Goa causing the Cadbury's company to announce job cuts of 200.

See link below.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-30815052

Readers may recall my note on the Scottish rupee when Scotland was voting for
independence from the United Kingdom.   The revenue argument was based on black
gold (oil) and gold watches (different brands of whisky).   This was based when
the price of oil was over 100 dollars a barrel.   It is now around 30 dollars a
barrel prompting BP (British Petroleum) to announce job cuts.   A lot of our
people work on oil rigs across the globe, their future employment is also at
stake.   The price of a litre of unleaded petrol in the UK is now around GBP
1.00, it used to be around GBP 1.48 with the taxation element of nearly 70
pence in the pound.   Perhaps readers can tell us what the current price is in
their local currency to give us a measure of world oil prices.

On a happier note, in the UK drivers now pay between GBP 10 to 15 less on a
full tank of fuel.

Delhi church vandalized, 4th in 6 weeks

New Delhi

TIMES NEWS
NETWORK

Miscreants vandalized a
church in west Delhi early on Wednesday -the fourth such incident here
in the past six weeks. A CCTV captured a miscreant smashing the
glass pane encasing a grotto of the Church of Our Lady of Graces in
Vikaspuri at 4.18am before coming back with another man to topple a
statue of Mary. Both fled immediately .
   The damage was found
out at 6.30am before the mass after which the police was informed. Delhi
archbishop Anil J T Couto found “a clear pattern of orchestrated
attacks on churches to weaken the social fabric“. Assistant parish of
the church, Father Balraj Lourduswamy , sniffed a “conspir
acy“ behind the incident.
But police, who claimed to have
identified the two culprits as local residents and probably petty
criminals, said they might have broken the pane after laying a bet. A
case of defiling a place of worship
has been registered against them. Cops have beefed up the security of
the church. Footage from the CCTV installed outside the church shows a
man on a scooter stopping in front of the building and joining his hands
 in prayer. He
then bends slightly and punches the glass pane and flees in a hurry . A
few seconds later, he comes back with his accomplice, sporting a turban
and riding a motorcycle. The two topple the statue in the grotto before
scooting off. “The men did not come here with the intention to rob the
church, but to damage the property . We suspect a conspiracy ,“
Lourduswamy said.
Expressing his concern at the growing number
of attacks on churches in the city , the archbishop said: “More and
more churches are (being) vandalized and set on fire. This is very
disturbing and we request the authorities to take adequate measures to
bring to book the miscreants who are threatening to weaken the social
fabric of the country.“

heroic deeds of St Joseph Vaz during his missionary works in Goa, Mangalore and
Sri Lanka.” Thousands of devotees attended the various Masses at the Sancoale
Sanctuary on Friday, which was the first feast of the Saint after his
canonization by Pope Francis in Colombo. People came from all over the State
throughout the day and piously joined in the Masses.Recalling the Saint’s
works, Ferrao said Vaz had left his motherland and people, feeling a profound

through many difficulties, serving the spiritual needs of the Sri Lankan

worked with love alongside all the communities and faiths,” he said.Archbishop
Ferrao reminded that with the canonization of Joseph Vaz the work has not ended
and a lot has to be done including making Joseph Vaz known to all the faithful.
“Earlier, it was the Cause of Beatification of Joseph Vaz, after his

Re: [Goanet] Science Congress: Ancient India Had Planes

2015-01-18 Thread Santosh Helekar
Like almost all other bogus pronouncements regarding Vedic science the claim
that airplanes and aeronautics are described in the Vedas has also been
debunked. Scientists (Mukunda, Deshpande, Nagendra, Prabhu and Govindaraju) at
the Indian Institute of Science published a nice research paper in 1974
refuting all assertions made at the current Indian Science Congress meeting
about "Vymanika Shastra". These scientists were members of the faculty of the
departments of Aeronautical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering at the
Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India's premier scientific research
center.

I printed out and read the Mukunda et al (1974) paper a couple of weeks back.
It is a detailed examination of claims made in two books on the so-called
Vymanika Shastra, which has nothing to do with the Vedas or any other standard
ancient Indian text. The books originated from what a poor mystic called Pundit
Subbaraya Shastry, who died in 1941 said aloud under a spell or whenever he got
divine inspiration – some of which he might have learned from his guru. The
recipes given in the books to construct these "planes" are hilarious. For
example, urines of different animals such as elephant, cow and donkey are used
as fuel for propulsion of the planes. The construction of the planes and
purported mechanism violates Newton's laws of motion, which even a high school
kid who has lit up pyrotechnical rockets during Ganesh Chaturthi will
recognize. The pundit apparently used to go around parts of the country
lecturing to gullible folk. He even teamed up with a man called Talpade in 1918
to build one of his "planes". By all sane indications the silly experiment was
a failure. Talpade died immediately after this, and naturally, nobody tried to
carry forward his quixotic quest.

Unfortunately, involvement of politicians and religious leaders in academic and
scientific affairs in India makes it difficult to properly educate the public
and the younger generation about genuine achievements of ancient India and
modern Indian science. Somehow the quacks, crackpots and spiritualists receive
more attention. Scientific illiteracy among even the educated masses compounds
the problem. This is also true in the U.S. with regard to teaching of evolution
and distinctions between science and pseudoscience in medicine.

But the sober and rational among us should know that if you try to study the
history of human civilization on this planet you will realize that we (as in
all of humankind) have progressed in a series of incremental steps, at least as
far as science and technology is concerned (Steven Pinker has recently compiled
convincing evidence that this is also true of morality). There has been
stagnation at times, but no drastic reversals or resets. What this means is
that at each step current knowledge was based on prior knowledge even in cases
where insights were ahead of their times. In other words, you will not find a
computer chip or a solid booster rocket engine buried in a 10,000 year-old
archaeological dig anywhere in the world. You will only find materials and
tools that were appropriate for the level of technology that was customary at
that time. Similarly, all descriptions dealing with materials and processes in
ancient texts will be consistent with what was locally available at the time.
Even extrapolations into the world of imagination and fiction would be slight
improvements over what was available in real life. If cow's urine was used in
religious and cleansing rituals, then it is very likely that larger quantities
of that same urine or that of a larger animal like an elephant would be used as
fuel for an imaginary airplane.

It is important to distinguish between historical and archaeological research,
and modern pure or applied scientific research. The government ought to fund
research into ancient Indian texts and sites as an archaeological endeavor to
study the development of pre-scientific understanding in ancient India, as is
being done in Central and South America, the Middle East, Egypt, Greece and
Eastern Europe. But declaring outright that the texts contain advanced
scientific knowledge and making it part of a Science Congress and Science
education is absolutely foolish and shameful. Instead of making us feel proud
of our heritage, it makes us feel ashamed of ourselves. An educated human being
living in the 21st century is supposed to have at least a basic understanding
of what science and rational thought is all about. If something violates the
laws of physics or has no basis in established science then she ought to
express strong skepticism against it, and demand overwhelming evidence in
support of it, and welcome scientific scrutiny from scientists and experts.

Here is a very nice article by a young Indian space scientist Ram Prasad
Gandhiraman debunking the "Vedic" airplane nonsense and other such fraudulent
pseudoscience that is bei

Modi's real problem is not his silence on Hindutva excesses growing in the
country. He needs to transform India without the minute-by-minute tweets
Many public intellectuals have urged Prime MinisterNarendra Modi to distance
himself from extreme Hindutvaelements for coming in the way of his development
agenda. They want him to isolate those who feel free to now wear Hindutva
ideology on their sleeve.

Modi has ignored such pleas for sound political reasons. He knows that measures
against Hindutva ideologues will not make him more acceptable to the secular,
liberal intelligentsia critical of him. Second, the Hindutva elements are the
ones who campaigned for him and catapulted him to power. Without them, he is
nothing but a dream merchant who is yet to deliver on inflated electoral
promises. Third, he is from among them and broadly shares their world view.

If, due to the exigencies of governance, he were to act against them, then he
knows the consequences. The Hindutva agenda might shift away from the Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP) under Modi to some other organisation such as the Vishva
Hindu Parishad (VHP) or the Bajrang Dal.

Although Modi was able to keep the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and VHP at
bay when he was chief minister of Gujarat, marginalise Pravin Togadia and send
an RSSfunctionary like Sanjay Joshi packing from Gujarat, it may not be
possible for him to replicate that strategy at the national level. Gujarat is
not a large state and Modi had a stranglehold over the instruments of
governance.

India is too large to be governed by personal whims. Under the rule of law,
every government - even one reporting to an authoritarian political master -
enjoys a certain autonomy to perform its tasks of governance. The federal
character of India and diversity of parties in the states, make this autonomy
even more salient. Even if Modi wanted, he could not determine the behaviour of
the state bureaucracies by a fiat from Delhi.

The emboldened Hindutva elements on the other hand feel that their time has
come, that they must be able to practise what they have preached all along. So
the Dinanath Batras, the Bal Mukunds and those claiming that Vedic Indians flew
the first aircraft centuries before the Wright brothers are crawling out of the
woodwork. The prime minister either shares their perspective (as he does on
Indian surgeons having the medical knowledge to transplant animal heads on
human torsos), or he wants to avoid a confrontation with them at all cost.

For the record, the RSS has gone on the front foot on all Hindutva issues. The
RSS leadership would not want the BJP that it has fathered to grow so big that
it ends up devouring the parent organisation. Modi had already virtually
stamped it out once in Gujarat.

To underline that this was not going to happen a second time, the RSS decided
to hold its workers' conclave in Ahmedabad after 15 years, something they could
not do during Modi's chief ministerial tenure of 12 years. That this was a
clear signal to Modi was indicated by the RSS restoring the honour of his bête
noire Sanjay Joshi, externed by Modi from Gujarat in 2005. He was not only
invited to attend the conclave in Ahmedabad but is also being reinstated as
full-time RSS functionary. Speculation is rife that he may be asked to look
after one of the affiliates of the RSS. This is a clear indication that the RSS
does not want the tail, the BJP, to start wagging the dog.

The mother organisation will try to keep Modi to the ideological path. It will
only become a problem for him if he decides to reinvent himself as a moderate
political leader. But that would damage his long-term political prospects.

Modi's real problem is not his silence on Hindutva excesses growing in the
country. It is that he seems bereft of any big ideas. His statements are quite
banal and the acronyms he is fed - like 5 Ts (talent, tradition, tourism,
trade, technology), 3Ds (democracy, demography and demand), HIT (highways,
informationways, and transmissionways), ABCD (avoid, bypass, confuse, delay),
ROAD (responsibility, ownership, accountability, discipline) and so on - may
amuse some school kids but unless translated into policy, they amount to
little. He needs to transform India without tom-toming his cleverness through
minute-by-minute tweets. A quieter Prime Minister, P V Narasimha Rao, did much
more to change India without a fan-club saying "wah-wah" all the time.

Dear Joe,

Greetings to you.

You are absolutely right about this BOI guys who work just like the
Govt.departments do in India and act like bureaucrats with thick skin on
their heads and think no end of themselves, even though my brother who work
as a branch manager at the chinchini branch I am very much displeased with
their services rendered to their customers. Some years back i too had
similar problem and i was fully frustrated with their services etc., as a
result closed my account with them.

Rest of the Banks are good and serve its customers with courtesy and in
good manner and provide the required facilities. Recently, i had a bearer
cheque issued to me from a/c holder in Pune but unfortunately the BOI guys
in Mumbai refused to render cash saying that facility is not available with
them and so I had to deposit the cheque in my SB a/c as a/c payee basis
where my precious time was lost and soforth.

So what good is of this BOI guys who literally come to your home whenever a
new branch is opened and literally cajole you to have your new account with
them, you can compare them to politicians, who have all sorts of tricks up
their sleeves. GOOD GOVERNANCE NO???

[Goanet] Fwd: Sporting Clube de Goa and East Bengal lock horns in I-League

2015-01-18 Thread Sporting Clube de Goa
*Sporting Clube de Goa and East Bengal lock horns in I-League*

Sporting Clube de Goa will lock horns with Kingfisher East Bengal in round
1 of the I-League organised by the AIFF, at PJN Stadium, Fatorda, on
Sunday. The kick off time is 7pm.

Sporting Goa came back from 1-3 down recently to eventually overcome East
Bengal 4-3 in the Federation Cup, which many believed was the game of the
tournament after Sporting Goa striker Victorino Fernandes netted a
breathtaking hat-trick.

East Bengal Coach Armando Colaco defended his team’s performance in the
recent Federation Cup, as most of the players were away with the ISL
franchises.

“Many players were away playing under different coaches and different
styles in the ISL with not much rest and rehabilitation,” reasoned Armando
in the pre-match press conference.

Armando further stated that he would give a few youngsters a chance in the
absence of some experienced players. “Dudu (Omambemi), Lalrindika (Ralte),
(Harmonjot) Khabra and Gurwinder (Singh) are not fully fit and the likes of
Abhishek, Abhinas and Sukhwinder may get a chance,” stated Armando.

Sporting Goa Coach Mathew D’Costa expects this match to be just as exciting
as the recent Fed Cup game. He had a few players who were doubtful with
injury. The biggest loss will be Boima Karpeh who has not fully recovered
from a knee injury. “Ogba Kalu and Anthony Wolfe will be the only two
foreigners available for the game,” explained Mathew.

Incidentally, the two clubs met at the same venue on the opening day two
seasons back, where Sporting Goa playing with absolutely no foreigners
managed to punch above their weight to hold East Bengal to a goalless draw
in what was another thrilling encounter between the two sides.

Re: [Goanet] Goa news for January 18, 2015

2015-01-18 Thread Sam Furtado
The comments made by the Tourism Minister to the TOI is to safe guard its
own mess made by their lack vision. The Minister blames Vladimir Putin for
decline in tourist to Goa due to the rouble fall? Why does he not say it
is due to bad governance of the Tourist industry in Goa and their
shortsightedness with bad outside elements operating in Goa for their own
selfish gains and motives etc.,?

If the problem was due to currency fall then why are the RUSSIAN TOURISTS
VISITING OTHER COUNTRIES this fall SPAIN, PORTUGAL, FRANCE, BELGIUM,
BRAZIL, THAILAND ETC?

The incumbent Tourist Minister's comments is a HOG WASH just to shield its
follies...

Wake up, wake from you slumber dear minister less you create further mess
and lend in soup?

[Goanet] MANOHAR PARRIKAR’S DOUBLE TALK ON CASINOS

2015-01-18 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Addressing the Goa Legislative Assembly on 7th August 2012 the then Chief
Minister Manohar Parrikar had categorically and confidently stated that he
did not need the revenue from Casinos for Goa’s developmental works.

While branding the government revenue from Casinos as “bad” money, Manohar
Parrikar had declared that the income from Casinos would be kept in a
separate account and utilized only on homes for the aged and
those suffering from Alzheimer's, etc.

Manohar Parrikar had further firmly stated "We don't want to use that money
to buy computers for students. We don’t need that money in the budget”

Earlier, while in the Opposition Manohar Parrikar had branded Casinos as a
“social evil” and called them "dens of vice". While leading that agitation
against Casinos Manohar Parrikar had vowed to make sure that casinos were
thrown out of Goa, while assuring that the BJP campaign would not only
cover off-shore casinos, but also those in 5-star hotels too.

But after coming to power the BJP has fallen in passionate love with the
Casino brigade which is now getting the government’s abundant patronage and
support. While the BJP is feasting and making merry with the abundant
moolah flowing from the Casinos, Goa has sadly become the country’s
gambling hub with the allied vices of prostitution and the narcotics trade
also flourishing by the day.
