Re: [Goanet] India v Brazil and Caipirinha

2016-05-25 Thread E DeSousa
Thanks for bringing this up Bernardo!
Caipirinha  Brazil's national cocktail, is made with cachaça, sugar and lime.
Cachaça, also known as Pinga or Caninha, is Brazil's most common distilled
alcoholic beverage made from sugar cane juice.Interesting reference  here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWghYkZSKGQ

Recipe for Caipirinha :

Half a lime cut into 4 wedges, 2 Teaspoons brown sugar, 1 2/3 oz CachaçaPlace
lime and sugar into old fashioned glass and muddle (mash the two ingredients
together using a wooden spoon). Fill the glass with crushed ice and add the
Cachaça. Enjoy!
Recipe for a Goan take on the Caipirinha:
Replace Cachaca with  Caju Feni (distilled from the juice of Caju apples) or
with Maddel Feni (distilled from the sap of coconut flower pods.)
This also helps with bouts of Saudades de Goa ...
Best Regards,E.

Re: [Goanet] [Goa Research Net] RE: Another Quest: "Where do we Goa from here"

2016-05-25 Thread Pierre Moreira
Hello there.

I've recently red a very interesting book related to the first Goa hippies :
"Eight finger Eddie : the hippie history of Goa and Kathmandu" by "Earthman",
(Copyright © 2015 Earthman All rights reserved. ISBN: 1517634423 ISBN 13:
9781517634421). A former 1970s hippie himself, "Earthman" wrote a kind of
biography of "Eight Finger Eddie", an American hippie who landed in Goa on 1964
and became a kind of guru for dozens of followers... On 2008, Earthman
interviewed "Eight Finger Eddie" who was still living modestly in Anjuna beach
(at Joe Banana's) where he finally died during the winter 2008-09, aged 83...
It's really a fascinating book which describes how these strange Westerners
mingled (or sometimes not) with locals, renting beach houses or sometimes only
a simple "balcão" for less than 5 US$ a month when the common monthly income
was 3 US$... No electricity in Anjuna till late 1970s, no proper road to Mapsa
and its cops, no "beach culture" amongst locals, allowed these hippies to live
almost naked, smoking all kind of grasses... Why Kathmandu ? Just because of
the Indian tourist visa rules which imposed to these first "tourists" traveling
to Nepal in order to purchase a fresh six-months visa at the local Indian
consulate... (And to smoke more local grass there too...)
This book has also a big set of pictures from those "golden days" I
purchased my sample as an ebook in amazon (free advertisement) but you might
find it somewhere else...
Pierre.

Re: [Goanet] Open Letter to Arvind Kejriwal - COMMENTS

2016-05-25 Thread Floriano Lobo
Eugene,
Goa's elections have always been messy. Goa's catholic Church voted for
Congress all these 34 years. Of late because it did not want the BJP. But
in 2012 the tables were turned over Congress and BJP was voted in because
the Catholic Church did not want Congress any more. Now it can go back to
Congress or AAP because it does not want BJP any more. But Goa has never
considered its own alternative, all the time yo yo ing with the National
Parties who care a damn for Goa and Goans. GSRP will be around as long as
it can hold its own steam. This elections, it will not be bothered who Goa
votes in. It has its own priorities to take care of. It is going full swing
with minimum 30 candidates and shall be ready to form Goa's government with
least hassles because it is a planned programe how it shall move after
elections shud it get the majority mandate. But most will think that GSRP
is dreaming. Yes. That is right. It has been dreaming for 2017 to come
having been getting itself ready in all respects to prove itself. It has
done that by proving that it stand by its founding resolved and not wavered
the least bit. Taking over Goa's helm will only be a matter of time. Just
you wait and watch. Thanks for your inputs.

[Goanet] Fwd: AAP SAYS CASINOS WILL GO IF GOANS WANTS

2016-05-25 Thread Stephen Dias
-

Dear Valmiki Naik,
Goa AAP Convenor

I appreciate the stand taken by AAP on many issues, during Arvind Kejriwal
meeting at Campal ground on 22.5.2016 and all promises made by Kejriwal
were well taken by Goans.
Now the National leader spokesperson for AAP, Mr. Ashutosh Gupta says if
people of Goa believe Casinos should be stopped, AAP will do the same.
This statement is not very encouraging because tomorrow APP can very well
say that there are mixed reaction among the people of Goa and AAP will not
be in position to stop casinos. Please do not give a rope for such a
statement because every Goan wants Casinos to stop and AAP can directly and
confidently say there will be no Casinos in Mandovi River and elsewhere if
AAP is elected and come in power.
Can you ask the Leader to correct his statement?

[Goanet] 1st wheelchair-friendly taxi for Goa on anvil TOI

2016-05-25 Thread Roger D'Souza
1st wheelchair-friendly taxi for Goa on anvilLisa Monteiro

| May 21, 2016, 03.15 AM IST

PANAJI: Leaving the confines of one's home is something many wheelchair
users can only dream of. But, their dream will soon become a reality, with
Umoja promoting the
state's first wheelchair-friendly taxi in the state and even managing to
find a taxi driver, Sainath Pednekar
 of Nerul,
willing to take the plunge.

'Umoja', Swahili for 'inclusive', is a recently launched online travel
portal that helps disabled persons get out of their houses and explore the
world outside. The portal is creating a guide with restaurants, hotels,
bars, museums, monuments among other tourist attractions in the country
that are accessible to persons with disabilities.

Meru Enable launched a wheelchair-accessible taxi service in Mumbai this
month. In Bengaluru, KickStart runs a cab service to cater to those who use
wheelchairs. Goa will see its first cab soon and Pednekar is keen on
investing his own money towards the cause. Although he has a seven-seater
of his own, the cap on tourist taxi licences has forced Pednekar to look
for a second-hand car that already has a permit. Once purchased, he will
send the vehicle to Ferro Equip, an ARAI certified and RTO-approved company
in Mumbai, to get it modified.

The customized taxi will be fitted with a ramp on the side that can be
lowered to allow a wheelchair user to enter. It will be designed to
accommodate a driver, a disabled person and four other passengers and
baggage. Pednekar says the taxi can be used like any other cab when there
are no wheelchair users who need the service. "This is something I would
love to do. Many people get frustrated sitting at home. I would like to
show them something beautiful in Goa," he gushes.

Umoja co-founder and CEO Yeshwant Holkar
 , is throwing
his weight behind Pednekar and trying to disseminate the message to as many
wheelchair users as possible. "We're not in the taxi business. We're just
trying to get wheelchair users to avail of the taxi service once it starts.
The biggest barrier that many such users face is getting in and out of a
vehicle. As a result, many are trapped in their homes. Tourists as well
locals, including the elderly, medical patients and those who have recently
had knee surgery can use the taxi service. We want to get this one taxi on
the road in Goa," Holkar explains.

For the past three weeks, Panaji-based author Frederika Menezes has been
stuck at home precisely because there isn't a taxi available that can
accommodate her wheelchair. "I can't really go out because I require a
driver who can lift me out of the wheelchair and into the car. This often
is difficult as I rely on part-time drivers who aren't always free.
Sometimes, I wait for a month. It gets pretty disheartening. Having this
facility would be a dream come true for many, including me," she says.

[Goanet] Article: Adidas to make shoes in Germany again (using robots)

Reboot: Adidas to make shoes in Germany again – but using robots

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2016/may/25/adidas-to-sell-robot-made-shoes-from-2017

Company unveils new factory in Germany that will use machines to make
shoes instead of humans in Asia

Adidas said the robots would not replaces human workers in Asian
factories immediately.

Agence France-Presse
Wednesday 25 May 2016 03.49 BST

Adidas, the German maker of sportswear and equipment, has announced it
will start marketing its first series of shoes manufactured by robots in
Germany from 2017.

More than 20 years after Adidas ceased production activities in Germany
and moved them to Asia, chief executive Herbert Hainer unveiled to the
press the group’s new prototype “Speedfactory” in Ansbach, southern Germany.

The 4,600-square-metre plant is still being built but Adidas opened it
to the press, pledging to automate shoe production – which is currently
done mostly by hand in Asia – and enable the shoes to be made more
quickly and closer to its sales outlets.

The factory will deliver a first test set of around 500 pairs of shoes
from the third quarter of 2016.

Large-scale production will begin in 2017 and Adidas was planning a
second “Speed Factory” in the United States in the same year, said Hainer.

Hainer insisted the factories would not immediately replace the work of
sub-contractors in Asia. “Our goal is not full automatisation,” said
Gerd Manz, head of innovation and technology.

Adidas produced 301m pairs of shoes in 2015 and needs to produce 30m
more each year to reach its growth targets by 2020.

Six subcontractors of Adidas in China declined to comment on the new
factories or said they were not aware of them.

In the longer term Adidas is planning to build robot-operated factories
in Britain or in France, and could even produce the shirts of Germany’s
national football team in its home country, said Hainer.

The shoes made in Germany would sell at a similar price to those
produced in Asia, he said.

Adidas is facing rising production costs in Asia where it employs around
one million workers. Arch-rival Nike is also developing its
robot-operated factory.

[Goanet] 51 months after BJP Govt came to power...

2016-05-25 Thread JoeGoaUk

51 months after BJP Govt came to power...

Zero tolerance to corruption
Parrikar said soon after taking oath as CM
Blatant corruption exists all over, may be even more than before

Going through its Party Manifesto..

Petrol price will be reduced by Rs.11 per litre eff April 2012
Parrikar did reduce the rate but it was nowhere said the reduction meant for
limited period only

Construction of 11 bridges including new 6 lane Zuari bridge and sewage
solutions for entire Goa within 6 months
How many completed so far?
New ZUARI BRIDGE foundation stone laid after 4 years and the actual work may
start only in August 2016

Garbage problems to be solved within 18 months
Garbage seen all over Goa’s road etc
Nice way of welcoming tourists to Goa

Regional plan to be scraped and new one to be drawn up with people’s
participation in a transparent manner
No scrapping but only revival of the same old RP?

Abolition of House Tax for rural areas
6 months after coming to power Parrikar retracted it saying ‘it was a mistake’

Lokayukta to be made functional within 3.5 months or 100 days
But it took more than 700 days for Goa’s first Lokaykta who resigned after
just 6-7 months
2nd Lokayukta took charge nearly after 30 months of First Lokayukta
resignation

Rehabilitation of slum dwellers...
Instead, Govt now making their illegal dwellings legal?

Housing policy to provide housing for all at reasonable cost
Still remains a distant dream

Fast track solutions to settle long pending Mundkarial, Tenancy, Kumeri,
Evacuee disputes
Instead, in fast track courts things even go at slower rates

One day Governance for delivery of Citizen – Centric services including
residential , birth certificates
One day Governance? You must be joking. May be it applies to Ministers only
i.e. CM’s son’s property mutation which was done in a day

Uninterrupted power /water supply 24x7 in 5 years
There are more interruptions in the cities than villages, a sort of Parrivartan

Green Goa, Plastic free Goa within 3 years
More than 4 years now, nothing changed

Vote and elect BJP for Development and Good Governance
We did that with high hopes and aspirations but in vein
Parrikar Left Goa for Delhi, betrayal of trust

Doobne wale ko Tinke ka sahara
Probably, for that reason, we saw people in large numbers for recently held AAP
rally

Goa deserves better
