Cardinal George Pell currently in the Vatican has been charged with sexual 
abuse and harbouring church perpetrators of such crimes.

He is the third ranking official in the Vatican and is in charge of all its 
financial affairs. 

Even if he volunteers to go to Australia to face the charges in court, he will 
be able to avoid the consequences due to his diplomatic status. So far, he is 
the highest ranking Catholic Church official anywhere in the world to be so 
charged.

Despite the good done by the Church over the past, the alleged actions of 
people like George Pell is enough to make one question the existence of Goa.

Kishor Bandekar elected as Treasurer of All India Chess Federation

PANJIM, JUNE 30: Goa Chess Association Secretary Kishor M Bandekar in 
recognition of his ongoing efforts to promote chess in the country has 
been elected as the ‘Treasurer’ of the All India Chess Federation (AICF) 
being part of helm of affairs of the federation.


Bandekar was elected unopposed in the general election of central 
council held recently for a three-year term (2017-2020). It’s the first 
time that a Goan representative has been elected to the treasurer’s post 
for AICF, the governing body for chess in India.


Bandekar was pleased with the appointment, “I am glad that the members 
have given me a chance to serve the Federation. Together with the 
members I shall strive hard to promote chess in the country. The aim is 
start a chess culture in the country and get as many people play the 
game,” said Bandekar, who served as the Joint Secretary of AICF for the 
last two terms.


R Venketrama Raja CMD of Ramco Group of Companies has been re-elected 
for 2nd term as President of AICF and Bharatsingh Chowan as Secretary of 
AICF in 15 members central council represented by all affiliated states 
of India.


Bandekar was the member of the Executive Committee of the Goa Chess 
Association in 1981 and was vice President in 2005-09, Treasurer in 
2009-2013, Secretary in 2013-17 and re-elected unopposed as the 
Secretary of the GCA for the term 2017-21.


He is also FIDE Arbiter and Rated player1982. He was instrumental in 
forming sub chess associations in each taluka of the state as per 
directives of the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development. During his 
last tenure as Secretary of GCA he actively worked along with other 
committee and taluka members in organising 4 national tournaments in 
Goa.


The GCA has 12 elected members in its executive committee and 12 
affiliated taluka chess associations. The newly elected President of GCA 
& MLA from Curchorem Nilesh Cabral has already promised to develop chess 
in the state of Goa.

A complaint has today been filed over the hoarding illegally and very
highhandedly put by Vijai Sardesai across the road on the Highway board at
the entrance of Margao on the Panaji –Margao Highway.


In separate complaints addressed to the PWD Principal Chief Engineer and
the Superintendent of Police ( Traffic),  it has been stated that officers
have conveniently turned a Nelson’s eye to this gross illegality just
because it has been committed by Vijai Sardesai the MLA of Fatorda who now
happens to be the Town & Country Planning Minister.


In the complaint directions have been sought to forthwith remove the
illegal hoarding and that action should also be taken against officers for
not upholding the law.


Pointing out that Officers have intentionally been mere spectators to this
illegality while a law maker has turned into a law breaker, in the
complaint it has been stated that legal action in accordance with law would
be initiated if swift and deterrent action is not taken.
