[Goanet] Please remove your CORRUPT Director General of Police!

2018-10-26 Thread David Cleaver
FAO: *Smt. Mridula Sinha* (Governor of Goa)

Dear Madam,

Bearing in mind the mountain of court cases STILL piling up against this
fraudster, Ajju Sindolli, I am very sure that you have correctly formed the
opinion that my relentless stream of emails on the topic is not simply a
personal vendetta against Sindolli, and that he is indeed someone who needs
to be properly dealt with under the law of India. However, it appears that
your very clear instructions to the Director General of Police are being
totally ignored.

Specifically regarding the issue of Sindolli’s “fake” passport, for which I
have provided all the documented evidence necessary to secure a conviction,
do you not find it a little strange that the Director General of Police has
taken no action?

As I have pointed out many times in the past, Sindolli openly claims that
“all of Panjim Police are in his pocket”. Well, what exactly do you think
he means by that? …. because in my opinion, there can be only one correct
interpretation. The key word in that boastful statement is the word ALL,
which obviously includes the DGP.

So, am I accusing the Director General of Police of being corrupt? …. Well,
yes, of course. Surely there can be no other reasonable explanation, can
there? For some reason, the DGP is failing to take action against Sindolli
– even when he is effectively being given an order from yourself to do so!
Madam, how does that make you feel? Because I know how it makes you look!

Whichever way you view the current state of the legal system in Goa, the
Director General of Police has to shoulder a large percentage of the
responsibility. But quite simply, this man is not doing his job properly ….
and somebody really needs to be asking why not!

In fact, somebody really should be asking how the DGP has found the funds
necessary to build his lavish palace at Sangolda! From what I have heard on
this aspect, *there is a big enough argument for an immediate
Disproportionate Assets case to be registered against the DGP*. Is he being
excluded purely on the basis of his rank? I hope you can see, madam, that
THIS is the basic problem.

(NOTE TO THE PRESS)

Yes, SOMEBODY should certainly be asking these important questions. But
isn’t that what the Press is for? In my opinion, not a single one of the
Press representatives receiving a copy of this email has the balls to
investigate any of these matters and speak the truth. Do you not see that
the purpose of these emails is not simply to get Sindolli jailed? The
bigger purpose here is to try to expose the endemic corruption within your
state’s legal and political framework. The Press should definitely be
playing their part here and should be picking up on every single detail,
especially when I am making serious accusations against top-ranking police
officers. In my opinion, you are ALL totally useless and a disgrace to your
profession. The purpose of the Press is to report on the TRUTH and spread
that TRUTH amongst your people. Instead of that, you are all sitting on
your arses, watching the whole system crumble before your eyes!

*It is time to take proper action against corruption! Start with an
investigation against Dr. Chander and ask him from where he got all his
money! *

End of rant …. for now.

[Goanet] Movie in Toronto

2018-10-26 Thread Eugene Correia
The GOA Toronto is presenting a Konkani movie, O La La, on Sunday, Oct. 28,
at Albion Cinemas, Rexdale, Ontario.
I wanted to know if it's good one to watch, or it would be a waste of $20.
Besides, I have to travel 40 minutes to get there one way.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

[Goanet] block member not using their names

2018-10-26 Thread Eugene Correia
Noticed that members are not using their real names. I saw "gupitmog" and
wonder who the person in.
I have seen fake ids on FB, and I have caught some. Another point I wish to
make is there are too many Goan FB pages, and saw one, Hijdas in Goa"
Those interested in looking at it can search in FB.
Some FB pages have no posts for last couple of years. Some have just few
members. Some real ids link to their fake id pages.
Those engaging in these sort of unethical activities should stop doing so.

[Goanet] Building India’s Human Capital (Times of India, 26/10/2018)

2018-10-26 Thread V M
https://epaper.timesgroup.com/Olive/ODN/TimesOfIndia/shared/ShowArticle.aspx?doc=TOIGO%2F2018%2F10%2F26&entity=Ar00900&sk=4685484D&mode=text

Earlier this month, India’s government responded with hurt and anger
when the World Bank released the first-ever report on its innovative
Human Capital Index (HCI), which measures factors like infant
mortality, schooling and health. Out of 157 countries, India was
ranked just 115th, which is lower than neighbouring Bangladesh, Sri
Lanka and Nepal. Almost immediately afterwards, the irate finance
ministry under Arun Jaitley issued an unusually belligerent official
statement that rejected the new findings outright, saying it “has
decided to ignore the HCI and will continue to undertake its path
breaking programme for human capital development aiming to rapidly
transforming quality and ease of life for all its children.”

Human Capital is an offshoot of Development Economics, and embodies
the idea that health, knowledge, training and judgement all combine to
give people the ability to provide and create economic value. This
year, Paul Romer won the Nobel Prize in Economics in large part for
his work describing how important human capital (which is the basis of
innovation) is to economic growth. The concept is particularly useful
to track how simple inputs like quality education, affordable health
care, and some universal motivational values can easily transform raw
human resources into highly productive labour forces. But the opposite
also applies, which is precisely why India’s government is so
embarrassed by the World Bank’s report. It demonstrates with
devastating effect that misplaced priorities keep condemning
generations of Indians to unfulfilled lives.

Adding considerable insult is the fact that other Asian countries
dominate the top ranks of the World Bank HCI, with the the very first
four consisting of Singapore, South Korea, Japan and Hong Kong.
Regional rival China managed a respectable 46, Malaysia was at 55, and
even Indonesia ranked high above India at 87. Looking further into the
numbers makes for shameful reading. The average Indian child will only
be 44% as productive as she would have been with good health care and
education. A staggering 38% of Indian children are nutritionally
stunted, which seriously compromises their cognitive and physical
abilities. From birth, the odds are stacked against these kids to
merely survive till school age, and then matters get worse because the
standard of education renders them woefully uncompetitive to flourish
in the globalized 21stcentury.

For generations, the standard excuse for poor Indian performance has
been poverty. But look how South Korea leapfrogged India in just 50
years. That country’s own Jim Yong Kim happens to be the current
President of the World Bank, and there’s no doubt he spoke from
personal experience when he said, “For the poorest people, human
capital is often the only capital they have. It is a key driver of
sustainable, inclusive economic growth, but investing in health and
education has not gotten the attention it deserves…This index creates
a direct line between improving outcomes in health and education,
productivity, and economic growth. I hope that it drives countries to
take urgent action and invest more – and more effectively – in their
people.”

Jaitley’s finance ministry insists a laundry list of schemes will
improve the situation, like the Samagra Shikhsa Abhiyan (that focuses
on access to education), Ayushman Bharat Programme (touted as the
world’s largest health insurance initiative) and Pradhan Mantri
Jandhan Yojana (providing banking services). The problem is that these
come like band-aids to festering wounds, and fail to address the
structural imbalances of India’s fundamental economic choices, that
favour a highly destructive economic model which does nothing to
improve life possibilities for hundreds of millions of citizens.

Following the release of his important new report, the World Bank’s
Kim joined a host of other “human capital champions” to address an
“open letter to the world.” It pointed to success stories like
Vietnam, where “where learning outcomes have skyrocketed in reading,
math and science” and Malawi, which dramatically reduced stunting in
just a few years. But there was also a stern warning, that India
ignores to its own immense peril. “Our fear is that a whole generation
will not be equipped to reach its full potential and compete in the
economy of the future. The nature of work is changing rapidly across
the globe, as are demands for higher order skills…If young people
don’t have the opportunities to realize their aspirations, we risk
more fragility and conflict across the globe—with incalculable
economic costs.”

[Goanet] GOVERNMENT BLAMING SOCIAL MEDIA

2018-10-26 Thread John Eric Gomes
GOVERNMENT ASKING SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS TO CHECK MESSAGES
Accusing social media platforms for spreading hate, violence and requiring them
to do surveillance and report the same is blatant attempt to stop free speech
and views not palatable to thegovernment or other oppressors! I hold the
government in fact responsible for not curbing spread of hate speech and all
its ills of polarization. Any criticizm of government is not anti national and
in fact essential in a democracy which has an Opposition, Institutions and
Press as checks and balances which are being systematically harassed/ destroyed
and human rights institutions and NGOs like Green Peace being shut down. First
look within and stop the Ministers/MLAs from expounding religious and hate
inciting/ misognistic speeches, make transparent details of own funding
before investigating blocking others and stop destroying/inflltration
organizations like CBI/ IB/ RAW/ CVC and misusing them against ourselves. Have
more respect for Supreme Court decisions. The various media platforms thankfully
positioned abroad are the only weapons citizens have these days to promote free
speech and counter fake news. The chilling example of killing of american
correspondent Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi Embassy in Turkey is an example of
how far unfettered governments can go!

[Goanet] ATMARAM NADKARNI SHOULD REALISE THAT GOANS CAN READ BETWEEN THE LINES

2018-10-26 Thread Aires Rodrigues
It now so reveals that Atmaram Nadkarni after having messed up the Madhei
water dispute wants to wriggle out of the issue. So in a stage managed
drama he has got the Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to write to Chief
Minister Manohar Parrikar that it was inappropriate for him as Additional
Solicitor General to represent Goa in the matter. Isn’t this letter so
strange at this juncture? Shouldn’t it have come from the Law Ministry
which accorded the sanction for Atmaram Nadkarni to appear and represent
Goa as a *special case* notwithstanding the fact that it was a dispute
between two States? Is the letter by Nitin Gadkari a mere advisory or a
direction?

Every Goan would be in total agreement with MGP President Deepak Dhavalikar
who has publicly appealed to Atmaram Nadkarni that he should quit as
Additional Solicitor General and continue with the Madhei water dispute to
a logical conclusion even free of cost, for the life of Goa just like how
Manohar Parrikar had stepped down as Defence Minister and returned to Goa
to be Chief Minister.

Even the Water Resources Minister Mr. Vinod Paliencar has stated that what
Atmaram Nadkarni has commenced, should be concluded by him.

As Atmaram Nadkarni is on record claiming that he was appearing in the
Madhei matter because of his love for Goa, let us appeal to Atmaram
Nadkarni to give away his office of Additional Solicitor General.

After having pocketed crores as the Advocate General of Goa, a now multi
crorepati Atmaram Nadkarni should have infact volunteered his services
gratis on
Madhei instead of over exorbitantly billing the State and merrily further
bleeding the exchequer.

Former Goa Governor Dr. S.S.Sidhu passed away in Delhi yesterday. Dr Sidhu

retired IAS officer, Dr. Sidhu though very soft-spoken was always very
articulate and immensely knowledgeable. Very kind and considerate that he
was, Dr. Sidhu was also a good listener. Was privileged to interact with
