[Goanet] Zoom Sued for Fraud Over Privacy, Security Flaws

2020-04-10 Thread armstrong augusto vaz
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pgHRAAmiWg

Zoom Video Communications Inc. was accused by a shareholder of hiding
flaws in its video-conferencing app, part of a growing backlash
against security loopholes that were laid bare after an explosion in
worldwide usage. In a complaint filed Tuesday in San Francisco federal
court, the company and its top officers were accused of concealing the
truth about shortcomings in the app’s software encryption, including
its alleged vulnerability to hackers, as well as the unauthorized
disclosure of personal information to third parties including Facebook
Inc. Investor Michael Drieu, who filed the suit as a class action,
claims a series of public revelations about the app’s deficiencies
starting last year have dented Zoom’s stock price -- though the shares
are still up 67% this year as investors bet that the teleconferencing
company would be one of the rare winners from the coronavirus
pandemic. The company said it had mistakenly sent traffic through
Chinese data centers as it was dealing with a “massive increase” in
demand. It said it has stopped using that capacity as backup for
non-Chinese clients. Zoom is working on adding end-to-end encryption
but that’s still months away, Yuan has said. Many of the problems stem
from the fact that the app was geared toward enterprise clients with
their own IT security teams, instead of the broad consumer app it’s
become. The number of daily meeting participants across Zoom’s paid
and free services has gone from around 10 million at the end of last
year to 200 million now, the company said. Most of those people are
using its free service. From Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Tesla Inc. to New
York City’s Department of Education, agencies around the world have
begun to ban usage of an app that’s risen during the coronavirus
lockdown as a home for everything from virtual cocktail hours to
cabinet meetings and classroom learning. On Tuesday, Taiwan barred all
official use of Zoom, becoming one of the first governments to do so.
Zoom Chief Executive Officer Eric Yuan has apologized for the lapses,
acknowledging in a blog post last week the company had fallen short of
expectations over privacy and security. Cybersecurity researchers warn
that hackers can exploit vulnerabilities in the software to eavesdrop
on meetings or commandeer machines to access secure files. Weak
encryption technology has given rise to the phenomenon of
“Zoombombing”, where uninvited trolls gain access to a video
conference to harass the other participants. Recordings of meetings
have also shown up on public internet servers. The company also routed
data through servers in China and used developers there, Citizen Lab
said in a report last week. Any official data routed through China
poses a major risk for Taiwan, a self-ruled island that Beijing claims
as part of its territory. Taiwan’s government rejects China’s
assertion, viewing the island as a sovereign nation. “The rapid uptake
of teleconference platforms such as Zoom, without proper vetting,
potentially puts trade secrets, state secrets, and human rights
defenders at risk,” researchers at the University of Toronto’s Citizen
Lab wrote.

[Goanet] DURING THE RAGING CRISIS, A MUG FOR THE SHOWCASE

2020-04-10 Thread Aires Rodrigues
During this COVID -19 Pandemic catastrophe when some people especially the
poor are struggling to even get the basic essential commodities, the
flamboyant Panaji MLA Babush Monseratte has had the audacity of yesterday
distributing one Coffee mug to every household. This is what we get when we
elect under-educated MLAs who can’t think and lack a vision.

We also do not know whether Babush Monseratte’s delivery boys who were not
wearing a mask or gloves were free from the virus. Did the North Goa
Collector authorize this door to door distribution of those Mugs during
this total lock-down?

Dear Friends and Devotees of St. Joseph Vaz (1651-1711) Apostle of Kanara
(India) and Sri Lanka:

Churches holding Easter Sunday services and hotels with many tourists and
visitors were bombed in Sri Lanka this time last year resulting in a tragic
loss of life including children, and devastating injuries to survivors. We
invite you to join us in remembering these many bombing victims and their
families at the 11 a.m. Mass which will be live-streamed on Sunday, April 26 at
Oakland's Cathedral of Christ the Light in California.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Mass is a closed Mass and not open to the
public. The live-stream of the Mass and the related live-stream link is
available on the Cathedral website at https://ctlcathedral.org/

Last year, the Most Rev. Bishop Michael Barber, S.J. of the Diocese of Oakland
offered Easter Mass for the victims of this tragedy and generously sent the
collection to Cardinal Ranjith of Sri Lanka to help the Sri Lankan recovery
effort. We are honored that Bishop Barber will be the celebrant of this Mass to
prayerfully remember the precious lives lost in this Sri Lankan tragedy. We are
also asking your prayers for the victims of the coronavirus pandemic, their
families and all the healthcare workers at the forefront of the effort to save
lives. In a similar situation of an epidemic without a cure and without any
known medical protection for health workers, St. Joseph Vaz worked for two
years during the smallpox epidemic of 1697-1698 in Kandy, Sri Lanka, tending to
the abandoned victims, with only one other Indian priest to help him.  In your
community, please consider making masks and gowns, donating, contributing to
food pantries and the many social services which are needed.

We pray for all those who have died and for the healing of other victims of
these human tragedies through the intercession of St. Joseph Vaz!

Please share this information with your family and friends. Questions:

Thank you.

[Goanet] plight of work force & labour

2020-04-10 Thread Nelson Lopes
The plight of workforce

Self-employed, shop keepers, services are hard hit,

Daily workers, migrants, no savings, food to eat,

Market vendors, hordes selling on the street,

Home deliveries, Vegetables, fish, bread, retreat.

 Agriculture, transport, industries are shut,

Interstate borders, movements stay cut.

Labour scarce to harvest, supply of essential food,

The India, the world in lockdown mood,

Masons, carpenters, electricians their plight is sad,

Permanent employees fortunate , regular income to be glad.

Schools, colleges closed, exams on hold.

Airlines suspended, quarantine, stay at home measures bold.

Doctors, nurses, medical staff are feeling the heat,

At great risk, maintain patient’s heartbeat,

Ventilators, masks, drugs are badly in need,

Govt is working overtime, to provide indeed.

Supply of daily necessities is a daunting task,

Door deliveries to tide, citizens ask,

Fruits, vegetables, grains , the prices rise

Hoarders, profiteers warning despise.

Agriculture , industry need work force soon,

Piling stocks, inventories causing darkness at noon,

Industries, transport, services need to start fast.

Economic slowdown and gloom to end fast.

Doctors, medical staff face physical attack,

In colonies, outside hospital, worrying setback,

Distance themselves from families as fears they raise

P.M in Janata curfew, lauded services, bestowed praise

[Goanet] SAD AND SORDID STATE OF AFFAIRS

2020-04-10 Thread Aires Rodrigues
In a glaring and despicable act of sheer bad governance, the doctors and
nurses employed at the Goa Medical College on contract-basis have not
received their salaries for the last three months. It is imperative that
all employees and in the current precarious circumstances more particularly
the doctors and nurses are well cared for as they are serving humanity
while risking their own lives. Ironically the Government last week
announced a 20% hike in salaries of frontline warriors serving in the
battle against COVID-19. Not to pay our people for such valuable life
saving services is unforgivable. Yet our Government repeatedly claims that
we have a well-run, well resourced health service.

The young and energetic Dean of GMC Dr. Shivanand Bandekar is working
tirelessly but must be given a free hand to improve the working of Goa's
central hospital. Given that Health care is a very specialized and focused
field, the Goa Medical College (GMC) which is now better known as the
Sattari Medical College (SMC) needs to have on board at all levels only the
best and brightest while not ending up being a refuge for beneficiaries of
political largesse. The Nawab of Valpoi’s canon can never override the Rule
of law.

It was Mahatma Gandhi who said ‘It is Good Health that is real wealth not
gold and silver’
