B.I.B.L.E. - Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth

John 1:1-4 & 14
===

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word
was God.

2 He was in the beginning with God.

3 All things came to be through him, and without him nothing came to
be.What came to be

4 through him was life,  and this life was the light of the human race;

14 And the Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us, and we saw his
glory, the glory as of the Father’s only Son, full of grace and truth.

Bwana D'Souza,
I can assure you that America existed 900 years ago. There are petroglyphs in
Ontario that are over a thousand years old, that clearly show viking boats.

The insistence that Columbus discovered America is one premise that needs to be

They used to roam the streets of Lisbon in their long black skirts, with a
basket of their wares on the head. Now almost gone.

Hope you enjoy this fado which I am hearing on a bright and sunny Sunday
afternoon on the deck among the trees in the back yard of the Toronto
metropolis, with a light breeze rustling. It reminds me of similar June days in
a peaceful Goa village at the front balcony hearing the passing fisherwoman
shout out the day’s catch, hoping you will show interest in buying.

[Goanet] GOA’S SCARCE LAND NEEDS TO BE SAFEGUARDED FOR POSTERITY

2020-06-14 Thread Aires Rodrigues
Revenue Minister Jennifer Monseratte has a duty to please explain as to
how scarce Goa land is being blatantly sold to all and sundry instead of
being preserved to cater to the needs of Goans.

Can she please explain as to how and why she is trying to allow temple land
in Survey no 214/9 at Mandrem property admeasuring 9033 sq mts to be given
on a 99 year lease to a politically well connected Delhi businessman Shikar
Kumar. Jennifer do you know Shikar Kumar?

Government land around Zuarinagar is also reportedly being sold arbitrarily
while the Revenue Minister also desperately wants Deputy Speaker Isidore
Fernandes’s son Raymond as an Awal Karkun under her despite his fake degree.

Today in Goa the Revenue portfolio is many times more lucrative than Town &
Country Planning and even Mining. But the Divine curses will also be
manifold. It may be too late for those looking to benefit from a quick
windfall.

It is totally unacceptable, reckless and irresponsible that our very
cherished and scarce God given land should be treated as a throwaway
commodity and sold for personal gain and greed rather than for the common
good. Every Minister and the Government have a fundamental duty to act in
the best interests of its citizens and not to be rubber stamping real
estate deals or any other deals that are not in the State’s interest or for
the common good. A nation that destroys its land destroys itself.

Aldo Leopold, an American scientist and ecologist observed ‘we abuse land
because we treat it as a commodity belonging to us. When we see land as a
community to which we belong, we may then begin to use it with love and
respect.’ ‘Harmony with land is like harmony with a friend. You cannot
cherish his right hand and chop off his left’.

Margaret Mitchell a famous novelist and journalist wrote ‘Land is the only
thing in the world that amounts to anything, for this is the only thing in
the world that lasts, this is the only thing worth working for, worth
fighting for and worth dying for’.

[Goanet] Are Goans Racist?

2020-06-14 Thread Roland Francis
Of course we are. At heart every Goan recognizes that. Some will fight it with
the fibre of their being, some others will either think it is not necessary to
change, or are too lazy to do so, or do not admit to it. After all, if you
don’t admit to it, it isn’t there.

Not only are are racist, we are casteist also. Hopefully, this is not
manifested in daily living, but it certainly raises its head in some
situations, like when a family member wants to get married out of the ‘caste’
boundary. No wonder then there remains a hidden hatred of their former bhatcars
by those who eked out a living by actually working on the land. Now, With
grabbing of houses and land, revenge is the sweet order of the day.

Let us put this in context of the times.

In Africa, Goans would not intermarry with either blacks or Sikhs or Ismailis
in any notable number. They might have married whites if they got a chance, but
the opportunity wasn’t there. Is there an explanation for this besides racism?
Yes there is.

In Africa there was a strong social bond among Goans, in fact almost as strong
as in the Mormon community. If you did something proscribed by the community,
you were ‘shunned’. What could cause this shunning? A marriage with a non-Goan
and to a lesser extent with someone even out of your ‘caste’. The Catholic
religion was no less to blame. Marriage to a non-Catholic would mean a cut-off,
a kind of ‘excommunication lite’. Shunning would also occur if any one of your
family took an anti-colonial political stand. Which Goan would marry a Black in
these circumstances?

Today, things are a little different. Marriage-wise we have not sufficiently
integrated. In an arbitrary conclusion I would say there are about 5 to 10 per
cent mixed marriages. Most of these are with whites, perhaps because they are a
majority of the population except in the big cities, but that trend of marrying
mostly whites is changing I am glad to note. More Goan youth are marrying
others, with Blacks forming a sizeable section of ‘others’. Co- incidentally
Goans marrying non-whites are from families where the fathers are ultra
racist/casteist/religionist. Poetic justice, like the mundcar-bhatcar
relationship.

As I end, I must clarify that my views are my own, from my personal observation
and not from a reading of any sociological essay or text. While I am willing to
put these conclusions in context with someone else’s convincing arguments that
are diametrically different, observations indicate what is happening, arguments
what should happen. Of course I am happy to hear of others’ observations or
their formal study.

Roland.

Egas D’Souza wrote;
I saw a story which said the main reason for Idi Amin's "All Non-Citizen
Asians expulsion Act" was that he considered the Asians to be racists and
would never marry the local Africans.

I am hoping that even after AM leaves Quepem for the brighter lights of

Before he burst on the scene, my imagination of Quepemcars was coconut

I was reminded by a Goanetter that the correct appellation for St Anthony

Selfishly I disagree. He died in Padua, Italy. But he was born and went
to school in Purtgal. He went to Africa twice……He was spared in Algeria by
the Muslims, because he was sick, weak and about to die. He was transformed
when he saw the suffering and death of the other Priest. He survived only
to return to Africa on a new mission of PEACE

After recovering, from Southern Italy, he started on his mission of peace.
He is also known as St Francis of Egypt. What was he doing there …trying
to bring PEACE between the Crusaders. Yes between Christians and
Moslems. This
was more than 900 years ago.

The meting took place in Egypt. The Moslem leader was not impressed with
the suggestion.

Now Pope Francis, the Jesuit has already been to the Middle East at least
a couple of times. In my Opinion this is better than throwing Bombs and

in Algeria by the Muslims, because he was sick, weak and about to die. He
was transformed when he saw the suffering and death of the other Priest. He
survived only to return to America on a new mission of PEACE

After recovering, from Southern Italy, he actually went on a mission of
peace. He is also known as St Francis of Egypt. What was he doing there
…trying to bring PEACE between the Crusaders. Yes between Christians and
Moslems. This was more than 900 years ago. The meeting took place in
Egypt. The Moslem was not impressed with the suggestion.

Now Pope Francis, the Jesuit has already been to the Middle East at least
a couple of times. In my Opinion It is better than throwing Bombs and
killing innocent Children, men and women

[Goanet] St. Anthony of Lisboa Honours and Rescue of a Goan Heretic

2020-06-14 Thread Adolfo Mascarenhas
Roland

I am so glad that the topic of St Anthony of Lisboa came up. Please I
hope that all those Goans in Mississauga do not forget Saint Kateri
Tekakwitha. She can be relied to intercede on our behalf on several
favours: CORVIN 19, Corruption, Evil Politicians etc Thank you for the
music as a Goan at heart I am glad when they make music .

I know that you, as a confirmed Heretic. Compassion is never wasted ..
However, you do not have to worry about SAoL hitting you with a hammer,he
was very gentle. There is another big surprise for Goankars. Following my
recommendation to the President of an East African Country, it was accepted
that an AmerGowdan be made Ambassador. You will be deeply touched.

More important is the fact my dear grandson Aaron gave me a surprise I
spoke to him …and told him of the appointment of AmerGowdan. He asked me
whether the Ambassador would have to work very hard. I said “Yes” But then
I told him about my selection of Serengeti for the Ambassador to relax
after his tour. He was really worried and shocked. He said Grandolfo
please see that the Ambassador does not wear a bowler Hat or a cotton cap.
Nearly a million GNU with 3,925,001hoofs pounding (Aaron apart from being a
gifted violinist is good in Maths he reminded me that the last number had
to be even …I had to tell him that a lion ate one of the hoof) Any way GNU
would make pulp or quagmire of the body and the brain. Therefore the
Ambasador should wear a reinforced steel hat, but the clothes could be of
reinforced fabric. …capable of holding hot air like the Hot Air Balloons
plying in Serengeti

Be safe.Be Good .Diversity Is strength

Mr Argham, you do dig up some weird injunctions.

Phew. Sounds like a prescription to nourish a society of vampires and cannibals.

The thugs in Goa do not have a hand in the Goan overseas pie. Therefore there
is no interest in helping out. Overseas Goans are looked upon with disdain,
remember not to long ago the Rane vitriol on Goans living in the UK.
BC
Goa isn't doing nothing. The politicians here are busy with their power
struggles, often going mostly unnoticed thanks to a largely supportive
media too. Please don't misunderstand all the "work"they put in. There's
little time for anything else.FN

[Goanet] (no subject)

2020-06-14 Thread Aires Rodrigues
My Dear Vijai,

On this auspicious day, the 50th birthday of a long standing friend, l take
this opportunity to wish you a Very Happy, blessed and enjoyable birthday.

In our efforts over the last few years to put Goa and the needs of Goans
first and to action the true meaning of Goem, Goenkar and Goenkarponn, we
undoubtedly had our very severe differences on policy and direction, but
the friendship and mutual respect for each other has endured the test of
time.

Those of us who have already attained this important milestone of a 50th
birthday and a new decade will vouch that it can usher in the golden years
of our lives. It makes us realise the virtues and priorities of life and
the direction that we choose to continue along life’s journey. As a new
member Vijai, welcome to the 50s Club! And now I am a member of the 60s
Club!

May you and the family be blessed with the gifts of good health, wisdom,
prudence and good wishes to continue in the service of others and all you
choose to do in the future.

I am sure that your dear departed sister, the late Madhavi Sardesai, who
was the Head of the Konkani Department at Goa University and your
illustrious dear Uncle, the late Ravindra Kelekar the prominent writer,
freedom fighter and activist along with your family and friends who along
with me are today sharing and celebrating this important milestone with
you.

50 is a beautiful milestone in life. Armed with all of life’s wisdom, you
can enjoy life to the fullest for many years to come. Don’t let the thought
of turning older slow you down and there is no need to worry about taking
rest. Ups and downs in life will come and go. Just live every single day of
your life to the fullest. Let not your 50th birthday stop you from feeling
young at heart! Covid-19 or not!

Frances Lear, the famous American publisher and editor observed “The second
half of one’s life is meant to be better than the first half. The first
half is finding out how you do it. And the second half is enjoying it.’’!
Dame Helen Mirren the famous English actress went further “Your 40s are
good. Your 50s are great. Your 60s are fab. And 70 is freaking awesome!’’ I
am living proof of part of her statement!

There is still time for you, like I just got there, to get all the perks of
A Senior Citizen as today you are only 50 years young! Happy 50th Birthday
our dear Vijai.
