[Goanet] THE RULE OF LAW HAS GONE FOR A TOSS
The all important Institution of Lokayukta, the Human Rights Commission, the State Information Commission and the Police Complaints Authority are all bodies constituted by law and each one of them has a purpose besides a clear mandate by law. These very independent authorities are constituted by law to deliver justice for the citizen and bring to book the wrong doers. Huge public funds are spent in running these bodies for the benefit of the common man so it is expected that the Government of the day should give due respect to the reports and recommendations of these vital institutions. It would be absolutely fallacious on the part of any ruling government to say that the orders of these institutions are merely recommendatory. If that be the case all that money poured down the drain by the government on these bodies would display no respect whatsoever to the orders and directions passed by these bodies. It should come as no surprise if the government one day says that orders of even the High Court and Supreme Court are also just advisory. It is no secret that over the last few years the BJP in Goa has deviously circumvented directions passed by the High Court, National Green Tribunal and even the Supreme Court. The taxpayer will undoubtedly feel cheated that these sacred and independent institutions they finance and depend on are being abused and their rulings ignored. The Government has a duty to respect the law and the orders passed by institutions created by law and the Constitution in the best interests of those they were elected to serve. Government must realise that they are not above the law or the Constitution that is based on the Rule of Law. [Goanet] Comments on Thriving of the Rape Culture
Eddie: Your message Message-ID: <7A4D00A7EFD8482BA717DC9E3B49C9F9@EddieHP> Your rage in this matter is palpable …yes we all have mothers, sisters’ wifes::: irrespective of whether we are white, black, brown or green. Both China and India have a terrible historySome years ago I was an advisor to a UN Committee on Population :::The West was horrified of the one child Policy cynically I remarked that they should be pleased::: In China things have improved….girls are in big demand ...if there are no girls what do parents of boys yes they reserve the girl...at least they do not kill Sad to say, the situation in India has become worse….Its a culture that glorifies that women are inferior to man in every respect….even the term scheduled caste….sickening: ::: I am writing because I thought the position in Goa would be better. I was in for a shock. According to NCRB….the fewest cases per 100,000 population is Tamil Nadu 0.9 ::: The equivalent figure for Goa is 8: What is disturbing is that the position in 2001 compared to 2017 is that it is risen steeply. Chittanagar at 14.7 is the worse in India :::What can we do This is not a matter to say leave it to the Police or the Politicians how can we lay people citizens help ::: I am too sickened to come with solutions ...they are violent. [Goanet] Support Green Issues in Goa.
It took ages for Goans to wake up and take up the cudgels. Today many Green initiatives are taking place all around Goa thanks to the great efforts from Agriculture Engineer Miguel Braganca, Nestor Rangel and others. Social media has also greatly helped to spread the good word around. Recently the Goa Green Brigade and other positive organisations were seen along the Guirim Highway caring for the coconut trees along the road divider. It is time for the 'noble' Goan specially the disco youngsters to start dirtying their hands. We have so many assets that we are throwing away. The mine industry could have fed us for generations but it still exists as a primary industry with little in terms of steel industry. Our coast lines and hills have been devastated with poor development. Cashew plantations which once dotted these places are now non existent. Unfortunately what is lacking in these initiatives is funding. Hopefully overseas Goans will take interest in these events. It is an opportunity to wrest control of 60 years of failure. (Just take a look at the roads) BC
