how one eats. And may I add, with whom one eats with,” says International

blogs *The Stiletto Foodie – A Blog Binge in Malaysia*, written in the
middle of a lockdown and a global pandemic in Malaysia.

Costa on completing this unique Book of Blogs entitled *The Stiletto
Foodie.* Thank you for selecting Malaysia on portraying your journey of
discovery on cuisines, food culture, food ambassadors and our rich
traditional ethos. A book on food coming out in the middle of a global
pandemic is a rare occasion, but on learning more about Ethel’s background,
I am not surprised. *

*Ethel’s unique insight captures the heart and soul of Malaysia, and her
explorations on our food and people will surely entertain and inform
readers on what our country has to offer. Although international travel is
on hold for the moment, we hope that interesting stories such as those

they can come for themselves and explore the diversity and beauty of all
that is available.”*

“Discovering myself all over again, healing and nurturing through the
becoming of `whole’ has been my own Eat, Pray, Love, Flow journey in
Malaysia. There are no accidents. Everything is synchronicity. Malaysia
called me to her and I heeded this call flying to Malaysia in March 2020.
Soon enough, lockdown was announced with airports shutdown to international
travel. Instead of panicking, I used my time to research, closely
acquainted with the locals, and discovered a paradise of food. Thus began
my explorations of the rich diversity of Malaysia’s food culture inspired
by Asia, India, France, China, and indeed the globe. I hope the book
inspires and influences readers world over to BE MORE, to DO MORE, to FEEL
and FLOW with the river of Life and Love. Wherever it may take you,” Ethel
shares candidly.

In his glowing Foreword*, Malaysia based Celebrity Chef James Won* says*, “
Ethel's language is Love. Each word, each phrase, each sentence is engulfed
by her emotions and her longing of wanting to connect with the other person
reading. Her vocabulary is colourful, very bright. And extremely
illustrative. You cannot help but to be there with her when you read every
word that she writes.*

*As a Chef, the body is the temple, as we nourish the body and the soul. As
a writer, Ethel nourishes the emotion with her language of love, and her
emotions are translated via her own personal experiences with food, with
the culture, and the vibrancy of Malaysia.”*

[Goanet] Brazilian Tocata music and Konknni music

2021-01-13 Thread Pratap Naik
Toccata (from Italian toccare, literally, "to touch", with "toccata" being
the action of touching) is a virtuoso piece of music typically for a
keyboard or plucked string instrument featuring fast-moving, lightly
fingered or otherwise virtuosic passages or sections, with or without
imitative or fugal interludes, generally emphasizing the dexterity of the
performer's fingers. Brazilian musicians adapted this music for their
culture and environment. They used accordion and tuba or euphonium as the
main instruments. Trumpet, saxophone, trombone, and clarinet used as
secondary instruments. This music is played by local musicians in an
informal way at homes, open spaces of villages and towns. At times people
joined them singing in voices. This lively music united the families of a
ward. In the following two videos the local musicians are playing the
"Brazilian Tocata" in a home at São Paulo town. We Konknnis are lovers of
music. I wish that we learn from these videos to create our own unique and
original Konknni music with the fusion of Indian and Western musical
instruments and blending nuisances. Mandd Sobhann under the leadership of
maestro Eric Ozario has successfully created such a music, mainly to song
songs. Yet, more to be done by Konknni musicians to enrich Konknni
instrumental music to be accepted and appreciated at the international
level.

Regarding Frederick Noronha´s posting in Vol 16 Issue 23
About 20 years ago I visited Indonesia and was surprised to find
Adão fruit trees in Indonesia (Bali, Surabaya). These trees were mostly
in around
palatial buildings of kings. The locals told me it was a favourite fruit of
the kings and sultans. The variety I had a chance to taste there was more
light orange coloured when compared to the variety in Goa is more dark
brown (mahogany colour).
Caqui in Brazil is the word for * Diospyrus **Kaki* a completely
different fruit, and should not be confused with* Manikara kauki *a
sapotaceae.
It could be that the Adão was first introduced in Goa by someone
coming from Oceania .

You hold the White power elites in high regard – you need them to

This led to Dinesh D’Souza having to perform a lot more community
service for breaking campaign-finance laws than he thought, with a
federal judge saying Monday that D’Souza
has to do eight hours each week for the entire five years he’s on
probation and not just the eight months he was confined to a halfway
house.

Defense attorney Ben Brafman clarified the sentence he handed down after
D’Souza pleaded guilty last year, which means D’Souza will have to do
over 1,600 hours more
service than he initially thought.
We’re talking about five years of eight hours a week? … This is a very
serious impediment to obtaining full-time employment because you miss
one day of work a
week,” Brafman said in the conference inside Berman’s robing room, as
D’Souza listened in silently via speakerphone. “In my mind it was never
contemplated
that the eight hours only applied to the period of home confinement,”
Berman said, later reading out a report from a psychologist who saw
D’Souza and then
ordering him to continue attending weekly sessions. The psychiatrist
wrote. “The client tends to deny problems and is arrogant and intolerant
of others’ feelings.”

So long as D’Souza stays on track with his community service, he will be
allowed to visit his daughter in London and his elderly mom in India

Albert,Brazil's statistics usually messes up everyone's hypothesis on Covid.
I took a quick look at the stats from there and they seem to indicate that age
still remains a big factor in the survival rates.
Here in Texas, thankfully, the hospitals now have more experience in treating
victims and survival rates are getting better.
However, wrt the belief for the cause and distribution, consensus among the
locals - outside urban areas - remains G.

PUBLICO says there were 122 deaths from Covid-19 in Portugal in the past
day. At one stage, Goa and Portugal were reporting about the same number of
deaths -- say 7-8 per day. That was around September when Covid was peaking
in Goa. Since then, Goa has not done anything laudable or noteworthy. Now
the deaths in Goa are in the low single digits... despite all the
irresponsible behaviour, millions of tourists, parties, raves et al.
So what made the difference? Is it the weather? FN

progressing to the millions and billions that the world uses. They did that for

[Goanet] A Misogynistic Culture Brutalises

2021-01-13 Thread Roland Francis
From a CNN note today:

A landmark report out of Ireland reveals thousands of mothers and babies died
in church-run institutions known as “mother and baby homes” between 1922 and
1998. Such homes were places where unwed women and girls were sent, often
against their will, to deliver their children in secret. In all, around 56,000
people, sometimes as young as 12, were sent to the 18 institutions investigated
in the report. One in seven of some 57,000 children born in these institutions
didn’t survive long enough to leave. Irish Prime Minister Taoiseach Micheál
Martin said the report "opens a window onto a deeply misogynistic culture in
Ireland over several decades" and said he is planning an official state apology
to survivors.

For the record, the arrival of alien form is recent history.  Greek
pagan introduced to north-western Kashmir by Alexander's   army,  the Thomas
Semitism  of two millenia in the deep South, and the simultaneous Semitic
introductions by the Portugueseand Central Asian invasions of six centuries.
Asokan ascetism was widespread, but forcefully contained,  and succeeded
inovertaking much of east and southern Asia. My choice of labels is an attempt
at reducing the distracting effect of latter day quasi-political
overtone.---
