[Goanet] Some Indian States Going Broke

2022-04-03 Thread Roland Francis
Sri Lanka you should be aware (if you read my post many weeks ago) is badly
broke. No foreign currency reserves, high debt with possible default leading to
basic food prices becoming unaffordable to the common people. Social unrest has
started.

Now Secretaries of the Indian Govt have warned that some states distributing
freebies are set to follow Sri Lanka.

Wake up time for the ‘Mitron’ and his cohorts to stop bank frauds and red ink
flowing in govt undertakings and withdraw all those hair-brained sops randomly
given out to serve as some social security net. If you see the salary and
pension payment figures of government employees, along with defence
expenditure, you will wonder how things are still afloat. For all the work they
do, in the real work India only needs one third of the work force that exists
in government.

Freebies unsustainable, states can go bust, say secretaries at meet with PM -

Yes, that was a lucky break that the Falklands was not considered
seriously, just as turn of the 19th century British offer to exiled
European Jews to give them Uganda as a homeland.

Luckily the bookish Jews researched Uganda, and refused it on the basis
that Uganda was not mentioned in the Old Testament!

What a good call by the rabbis!

[Goanet] Bomboicar and Bomoicar, or The Strange Case of the Missing Consonant

2022-04-03 Thread Linken Fernandes
This is a response to the post here of 31 March, 2022: "[Goanet] LINKS: The
Soboicar Project: about those who made the southern part of the island city
their home". The post describes "a planned oral history and material memory
project among Catholic neighbourhoods in South Bombay. ... South Mumbai,
or SoBo, as the locals say, is what inspired the title of our project.
Bombay Goans call themselves 'Bomoicars' and our objective is to archive
the disappearing stories of those who lived as 'Soboicars', and made the
Southern part of the island city their home."

This is a project certainly worth undertaking, and right away, given the
speed at which Bombay Goans keep giving up the community's first nesting
grounds to move on to the suburbs or up further north or to migrate abroad
or back to Goa. I am sure the researchers engaged in this project will
recover information about the formative years of this community that should
give us something to feel good about.

There is one concern, though, and that is over the spelling of the demonym
Bomboicar as applied by Goans to Goans who emigrated to and resided in
Bombay city over the past couple of centuries. I think the more common
spelling has always been Bomboicar and not Bomoicar, as offered, even
though tentatively enough in single quotes, in the present project
proposal. The name of the city has been variously written over time as
Mombayn (1525), Bombay (1538), Bombain (1552), Bombaym
(1552),Monbaym (1554), Mombaim (1563), Mombaym (1644), Bambaye
(1666), Bombaiim (1666), Bombeye (1676), Boon
Bay (1690), Bon Bahia, Manbai (1762), Bombay and now Mumbai
(Wikipedia). Among Goans, Bomboi or Bombaim were the preferred Konkani
equivalents, at least in spelling. The second b in the name, so far as I am
aware, has never been ignored in any variation of the city's name in any
other Indian language either.

There is a vogue in India now, of course, to modify elements of place names
to suit Westernised or nativist palates, and, often, to align names to the
requirements of the gentrification process. I also get it that some
flavours of Konkani do find some consonants too hot to handle and routinely
drop them from words without so much as a by your leave. But a consonant
drop (sorry second b!) of this magnitude would be tantamount to eliding, in
a way, an important element in the history of a significant chunk of people
linked to the term Bomboicar.

Of course, one does not expect the Bomboicar descriptor to receive more
than a mention here or there in the self-recognition of some community
members in the project's written report, but when, and if, it does at all,
one hopes it will conform to the more usual, and, dare I say,
well-established and inclusive, form.

[Goanet] OUR MINISTERS & MLAs MUST BE HUMBLE AND NEVER ARROGANT

2022-04-03 Thread Aires Rodrigues
In a democracy there can be no room to foment VIP culture. Our elected
representatives must serve the people with passion and utmost humbleness.

With the red beacon now long gone, it’s time to stop taxpayers' money being
squandered on providing police security for Ministers and their kin.

Politicians who are apprehensive about their personal safety should either
hire their own personal bodyguards or fade away from public life. Ministers
should also stop violating the traffic rules by not over speeding with
their official vehicles.

It is absolutely improper that the Chief Minister should be zooming around
with three police escort vehicles. This Government should embark on a
genuine resolve to stop this criminal waste of public funds.

Police personnel ought to be deployed for street policing to tackle crime
and maintain law and order and not to hover around Ministers who ought to
lead by example by living respectfully as common citizens. After all, the
primary duty and purpose of a Government in a democracy is to provide
security, protection and public services while managing the economy
prudently for all its citizens, not just the elite. All lives matter, not
just a privileged few!

[Goanet] Disobedience and pride are grave concerns

2022-04-03 Thread Nelson Lopes
Disobedience and pride are grave transgressions
The catholic faith had serious and grave transgressions on obedience and
pride
FIRST the Angels fell from grace and incarcerated due to pride and
ambitions, aspirations to be Godlike
ADAM too was condemned to sufferring as he disobeyed and blamed the
temptation onv Eve ,God given companion .
Forgiveness is central pillar of our doctrine of belief, but repentance
has to be practiced.Obsession cannot be an alibi or weakness for repeated
behaviourval offense
When the public functionaries defy the authority of ecclesiastical
superiors It is the hight of condemnable disobedience, that cannot be
ignored or taken lightly.Defying orders of superiors cannot be enforced by
taking recourse to legal means in a religious set up.Patience and
perseverance has been mistaken for weakness or to avoid public scandal. It
has happened in the past and precedents continue to be followed.Actions
has also been taken to show displeasure of unacceptable, public posturing
undermining the order of the authorities
It is not only protection of an individual, however ,senior, experienced
indispensable services might be but the damage that has been inflicted on
the establishment ,opponent and community must overide all other
considerations.Defying to interact with superiors on request and remaining
incommunicado for a long period deliberately has no parallel at all to be
ignored
The position and the pulpit cannot be used to denigrate, curse, opponents
to mental harassment. When an incident involves a new recruit to spiritual
services, the verbal harassment and uncharitable humiliating words and
actions are demoralizing acts of unpardonable behaviour are in absolute
poor taste. That a temporary immediate solution has been found to
rehabilitate a junior ,novice assistant , is no consolation to the
perpetrators of physical violence through surrogate followers. That the
culprit is allowed to continue in office as if all is well without firm
action is burying head in sand like the proverbial ostrich
The vertical split of society is not an acceptable solution to the laity
Action deemed fit in all fairness of justice demands change, if
suspension appears to harsh a measure due to paucity of replacement. The
authorities in the begining of violent episode engineered by the superior
towards new assistant pales into insignificance by silence and restoring
status quo of the superior by sacrificing and attaching a scar against
newly appointed assistant and without decisive inquiry into the genesis of
the incident of physical intimidation of violence where in the society
at large was not in agreement
and demanded unequivocal change of functionairies.what was the promise of
emissaries the to the reaction of Parishioners?
There are incidents of disobedience insubordinationthat have been dealt
with seriously and also mildly emboldening repeat of behaviour as tolerable
There is no place for disobedience which is the central tennet of our
belief to be flouted with impunity and be forgiven in such a casual
 cavallar manner
The regular transfers due shortly will remedy the situation or defiance
will surface more brazenly citing fixed tenure. The authorities must weigh
the feelings of community as against the disobedience of one individual to
sacrifice the faith of whole community at large
The predicament of eclessusatixal authorities is understandable but being
patently unfair to one promotes bias without reasons against the other and
treated like a sacrificial lamb to buy short term peace
The practice of demanding and securing or rejecting assistants is a
abhorable
practice agreed by superiors to placate the in charge. The best option is
to not to post hereafter those who cannot adjust and accommodate with
their subordinates is to be relieved or posted on rhe staff without
authority.Scandals of public physical fights under any alibi of
ignorance, indifferencec cannot further peaceful Co existence of giving an
example for laity to follow of living together

[Goanet] Zellensky, the ex-comedian

2022-04-03 Thread Antonio Menezes
Zellensky, a Russian speaking Jew, became the President of Ukraine in 2014
as a result of a coup d'etat sponsored by Western powers.Since then
Zellensky
have been forcefully proposing that Ukraine join the NATO alliance which is
basically an anti-Russian organization.
In 2016, under the stewardship of the then new sheriff, Donald Trump, the US
practically washed their hands from NATO alliance and hence its three
Anglo-Saxon-French jokers in the American pack of cards became bolder
and bolder in challenging the might of the East European people.
They encouraged Zellensky to get Ukraine militarized by offering almost
gratis
ample war material which they otherwise would sell to other nations at
inflated prices.
The West European jokers had and still have great fear of the people living
in large
plains of Eastern Europe namely Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Estonia, Latvia
and
Lithuania formerly known as the Soviet Union.
Hence anything the jokers could do to weaken these people was a beneficial
object of the NATO alliance.
Thus the war in Ukraine helps the objective of West European powers and
it is
probable that Zellensky has done a good job by engineering a war with
Russia
with the final result that both Russia and Ukraine stand weakened for
decades to
come for the greater glory of West European region.

[Goanet] Relationships

2022-04-03 Thread Joao Barros-Pereira
oh yea
the relationship
isn’t working

an Americanism
as real as
how ya doin’?

No it isn’t
working!

yes
poor math skills
of Americans!

they
can’t figure
out why

2 egos

1 n 1
collide

or
at best

remain
separate

never
dissolving

into
a perfect
zero

what does joao want to say?
