Did it need a rap from the High Court for the authorities to swoop into
action against that rampant illegal sand mining? The law enforcement
machinery is duty bound to be ever so vigilant and act swiftly against all
illegalities.

The unbridled hill cutting and filling of low lying fields is also a crime
against nature and our environment which is going on undeterred with
political patronage. We all know which Ministers and MLAs are themselves
land sharks involved in amassing property by dubious means. The Chief
Minister himself is better known as ‘Mr. Property Sawant’. Will the
legislators including the Ministers care to live up to that solemn oath
they have taken to uphold the realm of law.

It has to be the sincere and concerted effort of every government official
to ensure that they do not succumb to any political or external pressure
while discharging their duties. They must unfailingly only respectfully bow
down to the Rule of Law at all times.

It is expected that our Chief Secretary and DGP will do everything possible
to ensure that there is Zero Tolerance to any illegalities. Given the sad
state of affairs it may be a far cry, but we owe it to Goa.

Really sorry to announce the passing of Goanetter Melvyn Fernandes in the
UK. He was unwell, and passed away after a brief hospitalisation this
morning. He was a committed community networker, and someone whom I've
known (especially online) for ages. Always trying to do his bit for the
wider Goan community, and a person with wonderful memories of past times.

[Goanet] RAISE THE RETIREMENT AGE OF JUDGES

It is a matter of great concern that 70,154 cases are pending in the
Supreme Court with another whopping pile up of 58, 94,060 at the 25 High
Courts across the country. This huge backlog is partly compounded by a lot
of vacancies in many High Courts.

Parliament should promptly contemplate increasing the retirement age of
Supreme Court and High Court Judges to 70 as this may help in tackling this
enormous pendency of cases.

Currently the High Court Judges retire at 62 and the Supreme Court at 65
with our Judges retiring young while being still very fit to ably manage
the Temples of Justice. A higher retirement age will also be an incentive
to motivate bright legal brains to opt for the vocation as Judge. In a
progressive United Kingdom the Judges retire at 75.

To clear the backlog of cases the Government must also promptly clear the
names recommended by the Supreme Court collegium. The BJP has been seen to
drag its feet while scouting to have its pliable faces in the Judiciary
which will compromise its very Independence and sanctity.

Justice Rajendra Menon while retiring as the Chief Justice of the Delhi
High Court had said that until and unless we are able to deliver timely
justice to the citizens, the faith in the system may erode and if such a
thing happens, it would be a disaster for the democratic system of this
country, while expressing concern over the huge dependency of cases and
long delays in their disposal.

people, it is called Sanctions.

Indian is reeling  under pressure   with  covid pandemic and aggravated by
war of Russia

Cost  of living has touched the ceiling with  the fuel and all commodities.
unemployment  is at its peak ,  economy in doldrums.
Govt and BJP is raking up issues like Hijab, loudspeakers ,halal meat, non
veg food, illegal construction linked to riots, stalls, communal riots,
attack on mosques, churches, all over India with regular frequency and
disastrous consequences, directly attacking,targeting  Muslims, minorities
spreading  canards  about patriotism , citizenship , terrorists etc.
Hindus are privileged  and enjoy state protections   and patronage
emboldening them to run amock with impunity
It is definitely an attempt on polirasation  with an eye on elections.The
emphasis is on building temples, renovations, statues that have no effect
on lives and standard of living
India is a secular country  and bias and favouritism towards any religious
denomination is patently unjustified
BJP  winning elections and being in majority is not licence to harass the
minorities .The slogans are an empty rhetoric which have outlived relevance
in practical life. India is on path of self destructive mode with over
emphasis  on Hindutva
Religion may be an opiate  to those in distress, but is no solution to
economic crisis
The present  crisis is to divert focus on priorities and keep the nation
engaged 0n peripheral, emotive issues
P.M is keeping silent under the  garb of law being a state subject, when
India is  ablaze  under communal fire.
Indians and Hindus are spread all over  the world and a similar  backlash
will have catastrophic effect if narrow definition of patriotism  is
embraced
