Francis leaves a trail

Our son Francis left fast and soon,
Creating darkness ;gloom at noon,
Destiny and God's plan   has its  way,
As mortals we can accept but have no say

 Family  blessed  with immense joy,
Rejoiced with  3 girls and after 11 years birth of a boy
Life was filled with fun and happiness for 28 years
A flash of lightening brought flood of tears

Helplessly watched  nothing more to be done
The agony and torture that he will be gone
Never did he  regain  consciousness again
The prayers and medical aid  were in vain

Wished back to restore to health and nurse ,,
God knows best  whether it's punishment or curse
His  brief life  has left a blazing trail,
Lamentations ,grieving is of no avail.


The parents and sisters  are drowned in  sorrow,
No hopes to look  for a better tomorrow  ,
Follow   my path   shoulder burdens of cross
Joys and sorrows  abound  in life all across

Consolation that life has still sweet moments to  recall
God Almighty whispered  and Francis  obeyed  His call
 Eternal  loss to face  to accept and be brave
The yearnings of missing Francis will only end in grave

Those eight Congress MLAs joining the BJP was a daylight political dacoity
befitting only gutter creatures. From six of them it could be expected, but
from Aleixo Sequeira and Sankalp Amonkar this treachery was unforeseen.
That the Nuvem MLA stooped so low and into the gutter, in his political
twilight, and that Sankalp Amonkar who the Congress Party helped to groom,
also opted for this political suicide only shows that the alleged bounty of
50 crore offered to each Judas was too tempting for them to resist. Or are
there some other hidden gains? From Rudolf Fernandes this volte-face was no
surprise as he is someone who has never worked for a living and this
windfall was naturally irresistible.



Sankalp Amonkar now spitting venom at his former party only exposes him for
his failures as he was the Vice-President and was party to all that was
done or not done rightly or wrongly.



The BJP which is already overloaded with its own MLAs may find it very
difficult to accommodate these unwanted eight now seeking seats of Power
and Position. But even before the voters teach these eight traitors a
lesson, they may have to learn it the hard way from the BJP itself which
may discard this political second hand scrap by leaving them without seats
of Power but to be content only with the pocketful they received.



Politics is now known to be a dirty game, indeed a very murky one, being
the notorious last resort of the scoundrels and giving a bad name for Goa,
on account of this malaise of political prostitution. As Eight Cheetahs
from Namibia having now been released in our Indian forests, it would have
been appropriate to dispatch in return an equal number of our eight
cheaters to the jungles of Namibia.

Dear All,

My tribute to the late has now appeared on the internet along with
hundreds of others.
   The outpouring of grief and the sheer patience of the crowds
queueing in cold weather for hours on end, just goes to show
what an exceptional monarch she really was.
   Tomorrow is going to be quite an emotional occasion for us
all, including my own family since the 19th September is also
my dear Elsie's birthday.

Predicament of honest voters
The drama of defections , poaching has been condemned  vociferously
One paper headlined with near blank front page space  showing solidarity
with people Scores of voters have poured out their anger at being deceived
with  sacred oaths and sworn affidavits and iconsequential  effect of NOTA
and wait to strike at next election.Public protests are an offshoot  of
emotional feelings.May be dharnas  an another route  But the tirade  has
limited to  time frame  and then it will be back to normal A full page
should have been reserved for collective display  of voters frustrations at
defection
Voters who do  not note for a note are questioning the validity of process,
sacred vote and constitutional duty ethics and morality
They are left to rue the roost and lick the wounds  of trauma of betrayal
Voters  are steadfast and loyal to their ideologies  , principles and do
not shift their stand like political chameleons.Besides shifting to new
parties, voting new faces  is  no safeguard against the lure of defections
under the guise and alibi carmouflaged as development and selective
imagined consultations with workers etc al What explains and justifies
summersault by 5 new entrants and treacherous MLA's
Politicians  never espoused in their  pleadings  to vote  and that
development is possible only being with ruling party Helplessness after
working for their goals resigned gracefully
The voters are left to mourn and lament and taken for granted  their
feelings have no bearing on defectors  It is an irony that  defectors are
reelected by very same voters.The reality is that they have  to seek their
influence in routine   matters

Shock and anger at Miramar this week, as bulldozers suddenly showed up
to tear through the last remaining stand of casuarina trees near the
entrance, in yet another undesirable orgy of concretization being
imposed without any clarity or public consultation. Once again, the
citizens of Panjim are helpless victims of Smart City running rampant
in its consistently shocking pattern of criminal disregard for due
process, the environment, and any aspect of public interest. This
latest outrage is beyond all previous folly: rampaging monsoon seas
continue to erode the land, but the government itself is dismantling
the city’s last surviving defences against the tides. However badly
the capital has already suffered from flooding in the era of climate
change, we know it’s going to get much worse. In addition, of course,
we now also know whom to blame.

“A beach is the property of the ocean,” says veteran scientist Dr.
Antonio Mascarenhas, who studied Miramar extensively over many years
of service at National Institute of Oceanography at Dona Paula.
“Beaches function like playing fields of the mighty ocean. A wide and
high beach, backed by tall and massive dunes, and capped by luxuriant
vegetation, is the one and only alternative for the natural coastal
ecosystem. There is no compromise on this scheme.” However, we have
gone so far in the wrong direction in Goa that “in my opinion, the
tipping point is over. There is no working link between politics,
politician, policy, society. Unless this happens - and it appears
unlikely - the funeral of our sandy coast, in particular, is not too
far.”

Mascarenhas says “the rising trend of sea levels is a phenomenon
already identified the world over. Climate change is real; it is
happening. The associated weather changes such as enhanced cyclonic
activity for example, translates itself into stronger winds, higher
wave heights, agitated sea – the net effect being that sea waves break
further up the beach, and the wave run-up directly attacks sand dunes.
This is one of the causes of enhanced annual erosion that we observe
lately. The United Nations secretary general has already issued a
‘code red’ as an international warning. More is yet to come, but it
appears our managers have relegated these reports to the dust bin.”

About the unnecessary wreckage of Miramar’s precious surviving
vegetation, Mascarenhas says, “it is obvious that the smart city
managers have zero knowhow about coastal regulations. Dune vegetation
implies sand binding which contributes towards beach stability. It
protects the hinterland from strong winds and high waves. The tsunami
of 2004 has proved this. Villages behind dunes and forests were
protected in totality. Here, an aggressive dune plantation program of
coastal native floral species is needed. A progressive zonation of
floral species from grass, creepers, shrubs, bushes, taller trees is
ideal. Note also that the entry point of Miramar beach is impacted by
excessive footfalls, and should necessarily have just two designated
pathways to the beach. A sincere management initiative is needed
here.”

That last point is crucial, because Smart City has the record of
erratic, amateurishly conceived and appallingly mediocre (but
extremely costly) interventions that massively alter public spaces,
and also an extraordinary negligence to the necessary maintenance,
upkeep and management. This rogue agency builds very badly, then
abandons, with no oversight or any moral regard to responsibility.
This is why the Miramar walkways that were originally built for prime
minister Narendra Modi’s visit last December are already in shambles,
and broken to bits in several sections, with their main purpose
seemingly having been to allow garbage to accumulate more profusely,
and suffocate every last scrap of green in that once pristine beach
environment.

It doesn’t have to be this way, says Dr. Nandini Velho, the
distinguished wildlife biologist who grew up just down the road: “We
are lucky to have open spaces like Miramar, a colony beach to
residents which has important mental health benefits for all of us,
something that we appreciated during Covid. Researchers have reported
the wide-nose guitarfish and sea horses in hand nets here, and plus
there are endangered Indian Ocean Humpback Dolphins that I frequently
see in the shallower parts. We are lucky to have researchers like Dr.
Antonio Mascarenhas here, who have Miramar as their study area.
Therefore, it seems like a wasted opportunity when the government and
Smart City aren’t able to bring citizens and people together for the
better health of this great public asset. When we went for a walk on
the beach a few months ago, Dr. Mascarenhas and I said we both feel a
great loss about its deterioration, but it’s difficult to know where
to start, and how to articulate this.”
