Re: [Goanet] Compiling a list of restaurants/bars that are suspected of serving frog legs
Hi Clinton, I just returned last week from Goa and a friend in Colva showed me a place on way to Betalbatim, just after crossing the Railway bridge near the pond there is this place which also serves the dish. I was not much concerned, so did not note the name of the Restaurant, but i am sure you will locate it. hAVE a nICE dAY Seb - Original Message - From: Clinton Vaz [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, April 23, 2008 10:23 PM Subject: [Goanet] Compiling a list of restaurants/bars that are suspected of serving frog legs Hi Neil, I think its finally time to call a spade, a spade. WildGoa is working to compile a list of rogue restaurants/bars, so everyone reading this, please step up and publicly (or offlist), name all the Shakari Spice Plantations, Anoushkas, Five Flowers and Martins Corners in Goa that defy the ban and serve frog legs and other banned wild meat. We won't directly accuse them saying that you said so, but simply publicly petition the Forest Department to issue notices to these places and ensure that adequate publicity is given when these notices are issued. This is very possible, and has been done in the past in Goa, with very successful results. If it does not scare the restaurant, the publicity will shame them. Let's make a difference this season. Step up and help us compile this list everyone! we need YOUR support. We meet the Forest Dept on Friday. Any responses before then will be most appreciated. Clinton.. +91 9890936828

Dear Clinton bab I am not eating frogs, because I am liking only fish, not meat. But I am failing to understand the time and energy that environmentalists spend on doing something that is not very important. If you make such a list public then public will go to that place to eat frogs. Then there will be demand to make a list of people who are giving deer meat, rabbit, and many other wild life if you want go on and fight to save frogs but more important is to fight to save the ponds and the low lying areas which are the breeding place for frogs and other aquatic animals. Also what about chemistry labs in college which are using frog for dissection. It is only my suggestion so please don't take it wrong. Satyamev Jayate
[Goanet] Compiling a list of restaurants/bars that are, suspected of serving frog legs
Dear Mr Satyawan Govekar, Thanks for your reply to my mail. Unfortuntly, I don't agree with you that saving the frogs is unimportant and a waste of time. The WildGoa network is NOT another NGO, but an informal network of those interested in Wildlife issues in Goa. Using a mix of resources from NGOs, and Government Departments, and volunteers, we are trying to achieve something with minimal effort. This is because we don't all have the time for something full fledged as we all have our own jobs that keep us busy, but we all put in additional time, effort and money to such issues that the government chooses to ignore. We are working on a systematic plan to increase awareness on the issue involving press, radio and local tv stations and the list is just one of the ways to help the cause. We are just compiling a list that will be submitted to the Forest Department, and not to the press. Once we submit the list of restaurants, we will check back to see if the forest department has indeed issued them a warning notice to all the restaurants BEFORE the start of the season. The warning notice is just something to scare them, and let them know that for once, the forest department has noticed them selling illegal meat. There's no need to limit this list just to frog meat, all game meat that's illegal can be included in the list which includes wild boar, Gaur, Porcupine, Deer, and so on.. If the forest department STILL fails to act, we shall then ask the press to follow up, and also ask them to use RTI, and if the list of restaurants is made public that way, then i'm sure that the people in support for saving the frogs would boycott the restaurants and outnumber those interested in looking for places to get frog meat. This exercies was done last season in Canacona and produced results. I've got about 7 names to the list so far... please help lengthen the list.. We meet to discuss this issue TOMORROW (Friday) at 4.30pm at the Kala Academy Canteen Lawns. You are welcome to join and give us some constructive criticism. I agree that there are many issues in Goa that need to be addressed, but let's work on each one one at a time. I'm sure that we will listen to your advice if the group feels it makes sense. Thanks! If anyone is looking for nice place to start some action, Theres a Famous restaurant at 'BETALBATIM in the South, it is really very popular and does such fantastic business that they don't need to serve their specialty dish (Called 'Jumping Chicken'), but yet they dish out hundreds of orders an evening. I had a couple of arguements there ages ago but to no avail... I hope something can be done about it. If you're looking for the restaurant.. just follow the signboards, the restaurant starts with an 'M' and has an art in in it (oops repeated word)... or is it??
