How much could be true that in a racialized society, in early history of
Moshi and et al, where hierarchies were naturalised by the appearance of
physical differences. It is an established fact, Goans in Africa were
excluded from certain professions or living in areas where Europeans
preferred to settle. Even though some Goans were invited to the inner
echelons of power or positions, but to large extent were excluded from the
same inner circle as second class citizens.
Ironically, Goans embraced the same ideology from the colonizers, and
relegated the native African further down the rung of human existence.

GL responds:
Goans replace their own ignorance and stupidity with discrimination and verbal
put-down of others.  This starts even within our family; then the negativity
extends progressively the further the individuals are from us.  There is
peculiar attitude and feeling that critiquing others somehow reflects how
superior and smart one is.  Also critiquing others helps pass the time when one
is a betel in a pile of dung.
There is a saying out in America - "One cannot fix stupid".
What is sad, even the educated who should know better have the same attitudes.
Discriminating against others is not a solution to "having a chip on one's
shoulder."  Jealousy does not achieve success.  Persistent hard work and
dedication is the only way to progress and advancement.

the need of the hour is a Goan Catholic Truth Commission. It could be in
Cyberspace. We Goan Catholics are guilty of a whole lot of discrimination, both
within our community and without.

plot or coincidence: the ones that set up the art critic todefame me in the

convicted); the ones that attempted to shutdown the Basilica art gallery, and
the one who acquitted the accusedall belong in that exclusive ilk/echelon.

The same Goans so proud to be Western discriminate against fellow Goans in this
case because he was a Goan Hindu Police man .  I will leave the story below xxx.

I want to write about  heroes in Moshi: both Goans and Non Goans:

1) The Shah family decided to employ handicapped  people to man the leather
goods factor...they made caps, calendars etc.

2) Have you heard of the Martin Family I meet them in Goa about 14 years ago.
Dom Martin is a great artist but also a poet. He is in defense of the rights of
the Palestinians.

I can remember a peculiar situation in Moshi, then Tanganyika.

We had a club called the Goan Association and we were given a plot ofland
for a clubhouse. We first had a wooden clubhousewhich came down one day
and we had a new one built at the top of theproperty.

One fine day a Hindu Goan whose name was MoluDesai and was from Cuncolim
walks into the club demanding membership. Themanaging committee of the
club was in a tizzy. Such a situation had neverhappened. Most of our
community laboured under a delusion that allGoans were necessarily
Catholic.

Molu Dessai was reluctantly granted membership. But he also joined the
Hindu Gymkhana where he felt he was morewelcome.

Molu Dessai worked for the Tanganyika Police.
