"Christians are people who have hope."
One does not need a Mother Theresa, not a John Paul II, and not even a
Ratzinger to be of help. Its an inspiration that is not of this dust.

That cannot be taken away no matter what transpires. That is what one sees
in the practice of Christianity in India, and certainly when that practice
is under extenuating circumstances. Its just that a lot of that gets missed
in the hoohah about "we Goans know how to have fun" crap.

Re: [Goanet] What is Great in Mother Theresa ?

2012-11-10 Thread Venantius J Pinto
Dear Sandesh,
Whenever you post a link particularly of a book, say something such as your
observations, perspective, etc. Asking people to go read a book, without
something to support your exhortation, essentially suggests (to mean: not
explicitly, but favors) that you support the authors position. The point is
simply that you are putting the onus of knowing/as indeed, creating that
need -- on those who will feel obliged to purchase the book for their own
sanity (perhaps). Surely you are not the authors agent. Surely you are not
being an agent provocateur, or is that the intent? I prefer to think not.

Its a whole other thing to state explicitly, as follows:
I read the book and i believe the following... I believe what this author
is saying, etc In fact there are former nuns of the Missionaries of
Charity who have said the following... on this topic, and this topic and
this topic too...

What the above does is to make one credible/imparts credibility -- a
quality that most of us like to revel in). There are some who post on
GNet: writers helpful for their style of writing. They are pundits of
language, have a lot of experience, and the ability to leverage thoughts
and ideas. Communicating equanimously takes courage and a good quality to
cultivate. Such are the ways of being which we pass on to the next
generation.

Also, note that all throughout, I am strictly pointing at logic. This is
not about vitriol.

We have to accept what one is/was (meaning say, If I knew that my Dad was a
simple creature than there is NO NEED for me to embellish his lomg gone
spirit!). Likewise in the case of MTheresa we need to look at whether her
work did: any good. some good, no good, a little good, or nothing to speak
about. Whether she was full of it, or whatever. Furthermore, whether MTs
work gave Kolkata a bad rap in general; whether it gave the Kolkata's of
certain minds a bad rap, and if so does that anguish also relate to yours
(if at all). Or, is this another topic of contention that we Indians have
got very adept at, and so on and so forth. AGAIN note: all throughout, I am
strictly pointing at logic. This is not about vitriol.

If you respond poorly, I promise to write in Marathi and Konkanim and it
could be rough. The kind where people wake up at 3:30 in the morning
wondering how come someone entered their mind.

Once again, its good to lay out your thoughts instead of DIRECTING people
to a book, WITHOUT reasonabling stating your views. Your exhortation
"Please read .. and decide for yourself," does not behoove any Goan, nor a
thinking person, and certainly not a Hindu (even culturally, and I know
what I am saying).

My dear Gabriel,

Allow me to please disagree with you.

I do not believe that it is a question of "sour grapes", it is question of
intense prejudice and bigotry.

Add to that a generous helping of rank Hypocrisy.

ps: please read about Hypocrisy point in Radharao's excellent post.

All I can say that that author's grapes were sour. Did he ever walk in MT's
shoes for a day? Did he ever take participate in a soup kitchen in the UK
providing food for the destitute, to see what its like and meet the
down-and-outs?

MOTHER TERESA

As a Nobel Laureate in 1979 she was asked: “What can we  do to  promote world
peace?

An unlikely question to a woman  who was neither a  head  of  a State, nor  a
pontifical  leader  in  the Vatican. But  deep  inside,  the questioner
recognized  the power of a  diminutive nun who could overcome  the  constraints
of cast, creed or religion,  and  touch  the hearts of those  who  lived  in
stench  and squalor.

Her down-to-earth answer was: “If we have no peace, it is because we have
forgotten that we all belong to one another. Go home and love your family. In
the following year, India bestowed on her its highest civilian honour,
theBharat Ratna.

[Goanet] What is Great in Mother Theresa ?

2012-11-07 Thread Ana Maria Fernandes

Some one may ask question what is so great in Mother Teresa ? Before you may
think something different I would like to say Mother Theresa understood God as
Her Father, and everyone born in this world are children of God the father and
that what made her embrace poverty and embrace lepers and that is great in
Mother Theresa. I had an opportunity to meet Mother Theresa when my beloved
hubby took me to calcutta. I thought that we might have to remain in que or
make an appointment but we were shocked when we saw Mother theremotsa waiting
for us at the mother house . I had infact phoned earlier that we want to see
her and she respected me and my husband and she wanted to meet us and there I
saw Christ. What a dynamic mother. what a religious nun and what a good
christian. My dictonary has no adjectives to describe her and that is the
reason me and my husband will always be ready to do anything for her nuns.
Whenever we see a bhem tlue sari nuns we stop to talk to them and help them or
invite to our place for in each blue sari nuns we see Jesus Christ. What about
you ?
