Re: Webfontloader is out of date on the CDN

2016-07-26 Thread 'Philipp Wollermann' via Google AJAX APIs
Hi Joe,

thanks for letting us know! This is indeed the right place for your request.

I'll figure out why we don't host the current available version on our CDN.
Usually the library maintainers notify us of an update and then we'll put
it there, looks like this didn't happen in this case.

I'll let you know once we found a solution.

Thanks,
Philipp

Re: Webfontloader is out of date on the CDN

2016-09-02 Thread 'Philipp Wollermann' via Google AJAX APIs
Hi Joe,

oh, that's definitely not good that we're still referring people to that
old URL. I'll gladly remove any references to that. I'll also see if we can
give the /1/ URL one last update.

I sent a pull request to the TypeKit repo here to fix the links /
documentation there: https://github.com/typekit/webfontloader/pull/339

Have you seen it being mentioned in other places? It looks like Google
Fonts now uses a CSS-only way of loading fonts, at least I couldn't find
the "javascript" tab or the web loader mentioned there anywhere anymore.

Cheers,
Philipp

Re: https://jqueryjs.googlecode.com/files/jquery-1.3.2.min.js ---NOT FOUND error

2016-09-12 Thread 'Philipp Wollermann' via Google AJAX APIs
Hi Murugesan,

I'm sorry - the URL you mentioned belongs to an old jQuery repository on
Google Code, which also was never intended for direct use by websites.
Because Google Code has been shutdown, unfortunately we cannot keep the
file in that location for you :(

However, we're providing the exact same file on our CDN, which also has
better performance than the old Google Code URL:
https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.3.2/jquery.min.js

You can find more information about this service
here: https://developers.google.com/speed/libraries/

Hope this helps!

Re: Trying to remove an image from Google

2018-08-01 Thread 'Philipp Wollermann' via Google AJAX APIs
Hi Danny,

sorry to hear that you're having trouble removing the image from Google
search results. Let's try to get this solved.

1) Please confirm that the old image has actually been removed from your
webserver - when you open the direct link to the image (e.g.
http://yourwebsite.example/images/abc.jpg) you should get a "file not
found" error or similar.
2) Then please follow the steps here:
https://support.google.com/websearch/answer/4628134?hl=en - pick option
"How to remove an image" and then "Remove a deleted image from search
results".

I think this should solve your problem.

Cheers,
Philipp

Re: Minified jQuery Ui theme in Google CDN

2018-08-21 Thread 'Philipp Wollermann' via Google AJAX APIs
Hi Tony,

if you're referring to the "theme.css" files of individual themes: Seems
like jQuery UI doesn't provide minified versions of these files in the
release builds, so unfortunately we're also not able to host them. (We only
host unmodified library versions.)

I think the general recommendation is to use the minified combined
jquery-ui.min.js file of a theme.
It includes the jQuery UI structure CSS and also the theme specific CSS in
one minified file.
Would that work for you?

Example:
https://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.12.1/themes/smoothness/jquery-ui.min.css

Hope this helps!

Cheers,
Philipp

Re: WebFont is not minified

2019-11-11 Thread 'Philipp Wollermann' via Google AJAX APIs
Hi Dan,

that's a good question. Hosted Libraries aims to host exactly the same
files as provided by upstream sources and it seems like this might not have
happened here.

My guess at what happened is this:
We take great care at Google to correctly document the license and
authorship of any third-party code. Sometimes this means that we have to add
a license header
 in case
the original files are missing one.
For Hosted Libraries we have an exception that we can serve unmodified
copies of the original files, but maybe in this case the reviewer wasn't
aware and a header was added by mistake.

I researched a bit about the extra license in that file. The Web Font
Loader was co-developed by Typekit and Google.
Historically, Typekit was run by Small Batch Inc. which was acquired by
Adobe in 2011 (https://blog.typekit.com/2011/10/03/adobe-acquires-typekit/),
so this is just the old name in the copyright and not some other, unrelated
company.
The license of Web Font Loader has been Apache 2.0 since the beginning (
https://github.com/typekit/webfontloader/commits/master/LICENSE), so the
extra header is just stating that fact again.

I hope this helps! Sorry for the confusion.

Kind regards,
Philipp

Hi,

I discussed this with my colleagues. Apparently over the last days a change
to the /jsapi loader was rolled out that is slightly incompatible with the
way you're using it. People have been discussing it on the Google
Visualization API group (e.g.
https://groups.google.com/d/msg/google-visualization-api/hGys_iI99bE/KCY66-zyDgAJ)

- I haven't looked through all the threads there, but maybe you could find
some background information about the change in that group.

There's also something here about moving to the new library loader:
https://developers.google.com/chart/interactive/docs/basic_load_libs#update-library-loader-code

I'm sorry for that - we really try to avoid breaking changes, but in this
case, it seems like we had the choice between completely shutting the old
/jsapi API down, or installing the redirect to a similar, but not identical
implementation that usually works fine, but apparently in your case breaks,
due to the way you use the callback feature. It is planned that the
redirection eventually becomes a permanent HTTP 301.

I checked the code on your site, but unfortunately I'm not a frontend web
dev myself and can't really tell you exactly how to fix it.

My colleague told me that the issue seems to be with the callback being set
to __rqs[5].wrapCB. With the new loader, the callback would have to be a
global function, not an expression. In addition, the callback is called as
soon as the DOM is ready, independent of what is being loaded. That's the
behavior of the jsapi loader, I believe, though it is not clear and timing
could make a difference in actual behavior. That is, if the jsapi loader
was able to return things faster, then the DOM being ready might not be
enough. In case that turns out to be an issue, the callback should be moved
to the google.load call.

The callback in the google.load settings can be an actual function that is
available in the lexical scope of the google.load call, rather than the
name of a global function.

I hope this helps. If you run into issues, please feel free to follow up.

Kind regards,
Philipp

Hi,

First, I'm sorry that something broke your site. I'll figure out what
happened here and will get back to you asap.

Thank you for the excellent issue report - the details and timing
information helps a lot narrowing down what might have caused this.

Kind regards,

Re: Digest for google-ajax-search-api@googlegroups.com - 1 update in 1 topic

2022-09-12 Thread 'Philipp Wollermann' via Google AJAX APIs
Hi Colin,

Thanks! You're right, the discussion group is no longer very active, but we
do get occasional library updates directly from their maintainers. I try to
upload them to the Hosted Libraries CDN soon, but sometimes it can take me
a few days. Your mails here directly reach my inbox, so please always feel
free to ask if something seems missing! I'm happy to help out.

I'm currently not actively expanding the number of libraries that we host
on the CDN, as my main work is happening on a different project these days
and the way people use JavaScript libraries has changed a lot since we
initially built it - less directly including individual libraries from a
CDN, more towards using build tools to produce an optimized merged single
JS file that contains everything a website needs.

For the stuff we do host, it's served as part of Google's global
high-performance static file serving infrastructure, so there's a big team
dedicated to keeping the machinery well oiled and serving the files super
fast :)

Best regards,
Philipp
