Bug description:
  [Impact]

  Parted is crashing (core dumping) during resize operation, while
  changing the end position of a partition.

  [Test Case]

  root@ubuntu-focal:~# parted /dev/sda resizepart 1 100%
  Warning: Partition /dev/sda1 is being used. Are you sure you want to continue?
  Yes/No? yes
  End?  [42.9GB]?
  free(): invalid pointer
  Aborted (core dumped)

  [Where problems could occur]

  As per resize documentation:
  "Note that this does not modify any filesystem present in the partition."
  "When growing a partition you will want to grow the filesystem afterwards"

  FS-wise the resize operation won't try to take action on the FS
  itself. It would need to be done by the admin as a separate step.

  If any problem arise, it will be limited to the resize functionality
  of parted. In this case, the impact would be ~ similar to the actual
  parted state (before this SRU), and one won't be able to resize as
  requested.

Bug description:
  == SRU Justification Focal ==

  zfs mount -a when run on a nonempty mountpoint causes a double free,
  memory corruption, and a segfault.

  == Impact ==

  Double free and memory corruption in ZFS when run as root and
  attempting to mount all. While running this I observed other ZFS
  volumes randomly unmounting, and mount points owner being spuriously
  zeroed (set to root).

  == Fix ==

  https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/commit/d1b84da8c1a69c084f04b504beefe804591bca07

  == Test ==

  Steps are laid out in the ZFS issue:
  https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/issues/9560

  == Regression Potential ==

  Limited to the behavior of zfs mount when a previous attempt to mount
  has failed, or is still in progress. Changes the behavior in that case
  to failure, instead of double-free.

  [Impact]

   * PCL fails to build on armhf in Xenial due to
  https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=835292

   * The patch fixes this issue by backporting the fix from Debian:
  https://salsa.debian.org/science-
  team/pcl/-/commit/f559d014ee8960f84100d6b6cd8e7372de15fbb4 (with a
  slight tweak to keep things safer)

  [Test Case]

   * Build PCL on armhf, note that it fails to build with opengl-related
  errors (see this build log as an example:
  https://launchpadlibrarian.net/508382337/buildlog_ubuntu-xenial-
  armhf.pcl_1.7.2-14build1.1_BUILDING.txt.gz)

   * Apply this patch and build PCL again, note that it succeeds because
  Qt (the package that is including gles on armhf only) is not installed

  [Where problems could occur]

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1906277] [NEW] PCL is not available on armhf

2020-11-30 Thread Kyle Fazzari
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

 * PCL fails to build on armhf in Xenial due to https://bugs.debian.org
/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=835292

 * The patch fixes this issue by backporting the fix from Debian:
https://salsa.debian.org/science-
team/pcl/-/commit/f559d014ee8960f84100d6b6cd8e7372de15fbb4 (with a
slight tweak to keep things safer)

[Test Case]

 * Build PCL on armhf, note that it fails to build with opengl-related
errors (see this build log as an example:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/508382337/buildlog_ubuntu-xenial-
armhf.pcl_1.7.2-14build1.1_BUILDING.txt.gz)

 * Apply this patch and build PCL again, note that it succeeds because
Qt (the package that is including gles on armhf only) is not installed

[Where problems could occur]

 * This is fixing a failure to build on armhf: no one can possibly be
currently using it, and the fix is armhf-specific. Regression potential
is low unless a typo is made in the patch.

Bug description:
  == SRU Justification Focal ==

  zfs mount -a when run on a nonempty mountpoint causes a double free,
  memory corruption, and a segfault.

  == Impact ==

  Double free and memory corruption in ZFS when run as root and
  attempting to mount all. While running this I observed other ZFS
  volumes randomly unmounting, and mount points owner being spuriously
  zeroed (set to root).

  == Fix ==

  https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/commit/d1b84da8c1a69c084f04b504beefe804591bca07

  == Test ==

  Steps are laid out in the ZFS issue:
  https://github.com/openzfs/zfs/issues/9560

  == Regression Potential ==

  Limited to the behavior of zfs mount when a previous attempt to mount
  has failed, or is still in progress. Changes the behavior in that case
  to failure, instead of double-free.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1790709] Re: Backport gnu-efi 3.0.8 to all supported releases for SHIM

2020-11-30 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
The version of syslinux in the proposed pocket of Bionic that was
purported to fix this bug report has been removed because the bugs that
were to be fixed by the upload were not verified in a timely (105 days)
fashion.

Bug description:
  [Impact]
  All users on UEFI systems.

  Gnu-efi needs to be backported everywhere to support new shim
  releases. This applies to bionic, xenial, and trusty.

  This is to properly build the new shim releases on these releases of
  Ubuntu.

  [Test cases]
  -- build tests --
  Validate that the following reverse-dependencies build correctly:

  Reverse-Build-Depends-Indep
  ===
  * syslinux

  Reverse-Build-Depends
  =
  * dell-recovery
  * efitools
  * fwupd
  * fwupdate
  * kexec-tools
  * refind
  * sbsigntool
  * shim
  * systemd

  Rebuild tests will happen in
  https://launchpad.net/~cyphermox/+archive/ubuntu/rebuild-tests

  == Functionality tests ==

  Run the following tests after the packages have been rebuilt against
  the new gnu-efi.

  === mokutil ===
  Validate that mokutil can process:
  - Certificate import: mokutil --import
  - List enrolled certificates: mokutil --list-enrolled
  - Set verbosity: mokutil --set-verbosity true

  Reboot, and validate that MokManager processes the requested changes.

  [Regression potential]
  gnu-efi is a library that supports applications in handling EFI variables in
and outside of the runtime environment, along with supporting standard library
features for EFI applications. As such, any application that makes uses of EFI
variables on a running system or as their own EFI application should be
validated against possible corruption of the contents of the variables, as well
as doing smoketesting of the EFI applications themselves for incorrect
behavior, crashes, and other runtime issues.

Bug description:
  == SRU justification, Xenial ==

  When running the --dup stressor with stress-ng with a process that is
  allowed to open more than 64K file descriptors we trigger a segfault
  because of an array overflow.

  == Fix ==

  A simple fix is required, just a bounds check on the maximum size
  max_fd to limit it to the size of the fds array.

  == Testcase ==

  stress-ng on arm64 with the --dup stressor will trigger this quite
  easily. The bug was found during regression testing of the previous
  xenial stress-ng upload.

  stress-ng --dup

  without the fix this will segfault. with the fix it works correctly.

  == Regression Potential ==

  Low. This affects one stress case in stress-ng, the fix is localized
  and it a backport from an upstream stress-ng fix that has been working
  for several years w/o problem.

  == SRU [Bionic][Disco][Eoan] ==

  stress-ng --timer 1 --timer-freq 10 --timer-slack -t 1 runs for a
  whole day and not 1 second. The timer-slack option eats the -t1 arg
  because it is defined as having an arg when in fact it is a zero arg
  option.

  == Fix ==

  Upstream fix (in Focal):

  commit e044133ed6ebdbac16775d8ae0d130bc2dac96ea
  Author: Colin Ian King
  Date:   Mon Nov 25 12:05:30 2019 +

  Fix --timer-slack from consuming the following arg (LP: #1853832)

  == Test ==

  stress-ng --timer 1 --timer-freq 10 --timer-slack -t 1

  Without the fix, this will run by default for 24 hours. With the fix
  the -t option is parsed and it will run for 1 second as intended.

  == Regression Potential ==

  This is a one line arg parsing change so change set is really limited
  to this one --timer-slack option. Users may find the behaviour now
  changes because it no longer consumes the next arg and hence the next
  arg works and hence changes functionality.

[Group.of.nepali.translators] [Bug 1573234] Re: unable to link: cannot find libvtkproj4

Bug description:
  [Impact]

   * Any code that links to libraries provided by libpcl1.7 (which
  depends on vtk6) fails to link because it cannot find vtkproj4 (see
  https://github.com/PointCloudLibrary/pcl/issues/1594 for example)

   * This has been fixed in Debian, but in a way that breaks ABI

   * See this change through all the way by adding libproj-dev as a
  dependency to libvtk6-dev, and rebuild pcl such that it uses the
  system libproj instead of the vtk-vendored libproj

   * IMPORTANT: This fix is a two-patch fix, one for vtk6 (adding the
  missing dependency) and one for pcl (a no-change rebuild using the
  earlier patch for vtk6). As a result, they cannot be uploaded into
  -proposed at the same time. vtk6 must happen first, and pcl only once
  vtk6 has been built.

  [Test Case]

   * apt install libvtk6-dev libpcl-dev
   * git clone https://github.com/kyrofa/pcl-sru-test.git
   * cd pcl-sru-test
   * cmake .
   * make

  * You'll first note that it fails to build because it needs libproj-
  dev installed. Apply the first patch (to vtk) in this SRU, rebuild and
  install that version of vtk.

  * Build again, and you'll note that it fails to link to vtkproj4. This
  is the libproj that was vendored by vtk, but should not be used at all
  in Xenial (it's actually building against the system libproj). This is
  fixed by the second patch (to pcl) in this SRU, a no-change rebuild
  that causes the cmake config to be regenerated to properly link to the
  system libproj instead of the vtk-vendored libproj. Rebuild and
  install that version of pcl.

   * Finally, the build should succeed.

  [Where problems could occur]

   * This patch doesn't change ABI or API, but does add a dependency

   * Problems could potentially occur if clients worked around this
  issue by hacking their projects to link to vtkproj, but known users
  (ROS) have vendored Debian's fix into their repos as opposed to
  working around the bug, thus regressions seem unlikely
