Bug description:
[Impact]
ubuntu-advantage-desktop-daemon is a service we added in 22.04 to let
desktop application interact easily with Ubuntu Advantage
adsys makes use of is to check if the system is connected to UA. This is
supported in 20.04 LTS but until now the daemon was not available there.
Installing the daemon enables advanced usages (scripts, privilege
delegation…) which require an Ubuntu Pro account
Ubuntu Pro integration is being added to software-properties which
also require the service to be available.
[Test Plan]
A. Verify the service
1. Install:
$ sudo apt install ubuntu-advantage-desktop-daemon
2. Check able to access daemon
$ gdbus call --system --dest com.canonical.UbuntuAdvantage --object-path
/com/canonical/UbuntuAdvantage/Manager --method
org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties.GetAll 'com.canonical.UbuntuAdvantage.Manager'

B. Software-properties
Verify that the new 'Ubuntu Pro' page is working as expected, SRU bug
#, especially that it reflects the correct status and that
attaching/detaching a token and enabling/disabling services is working
C. Adsys (focal)
1. Ensure that you have an Ubuntu Advantage subcription enabled.
2. Setup some scripts under AD to be executed, one for machine scripts (on
startup), one for user scripts (on login). Those scripts can create some
temporary files under /tmp for instance.
3. Reboot and login on the Ubuntu laptop connected with AD by adsys.
4. Check that the scripts were executed by testing that the created file
under /tmp are present.
[Where problems could occur]
This is a code that has not previously been used on 20.04 and thus
could trigger new bugs. It has been used for since jammy though
without major issues.
A. The service itself
The service shouldn't be active unless it's needed. If you don't have ubuntu
advantage nor adsys configured check that the service is not loaded.
The service should low on resource usage, check that it's the case by
checking the RAM and CPU consumption.
B. Software-properties
The Ubuntu Pro tab didn't exist before so there should be no
regression possible there due to the service. The livepatch enablement
is handled through the service as part of UA now so check that
livepatch is correctly working still on upgraded systems
C. Adsys (focal)
The behaviour change in adsys should be limited to enabling features
which weren't available in focal before but we should ensure those are
correctly working and not providing a buggy user experience

Bug description:
I have setup the remote desktop using the "[VNCServer]" configuration section.
When I log in using a VNC client and log out with the desktop panel menu,
the VNC client(remmina) does not exits.
I found that a VNC connection(TCP 5900) remains alive even though the Xvnc
server exits.
I also found the cause, GSocket instance is leaking in the "src/vnc-server.c".

HOW TO REPRODUCE:
1. Install LibreOffice snap ('nonfree' tag) from Ubuntu Software.
2. Click on the 'Launch' button once you have it installed.
WHAT IS EXPECTED:
It should launch the LibreOffice wizard instead of any of Writer, Calc, etc.
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS:
It launches LibreOffice Database.
WHY THIS HAPPENS?
Ubuntu Software probably picks the first listed command

GNOME 3.22 implemented a authentication dialog into the GNOME Software code in 3.22 (based on our dialog) which we switched to using. The dialog support was backported into 3.20.5. When the current dialog is run it runs from a different thread to the main UI. GTK+ is not thread safe and so this is likely to cause random crashes. May be the cause of bugs like bug 1614130. [Test Case 1] 1. Delete any existing Ubuntu One credentials by running seahorse and deleting keys named com.ubuntu.UbuntuOne.* 2. Open GNOME Software 3. I didn't manage to work out why this is happening, but gnome-software 3.25.4 replaced this code with the AsIcon code and it doesn't seem to be occuring anymore. Bug description:
GNOME Software shows the package name from the app (the snap's name
you can't change in the store) instead of the human-readable one (the
one you can edit in the store).
That is, the entry in GNOME Software reads 'ubuntu-calculator-app'
instead of 'Calculator (Unity 7)'. The latter is specified as "Package
title" in the web UI, not sure which field name it's got in the store
API.
It seems, though, that snappy does not have the concept of a human-
readable name and it's using the "description" field for that. I'm not
sure if that's the intention, or if it's expected that any store
clients use the "Package title" from the store API instead.

The human-readable package display name, “Package name” in the upload
form, maps to the title field in the store API and takes its data from
the same field in a Click manifest, but seemingly has no equivalent in
a Snap manifest. The closest field in snap.yaml appears to be summary,
but I was intending to extract that to tagline and fix bug #1303354 so
we can surface that in the store API.
The description field in the store API maps to the “Tagline” and
“Description” fields in the upload form, and takes its data from the
title and description fields in Click manifests, and the description
field in Snap manifests.
The name field in the store API maps to the unchangeable package name
in the store web UI, and takes its data from the same field in both
Click and Snap manifests, with the author’s short namespace appended
if the extracted package name is unqualified.

[ Fix ] unity-control-center's user-accounts panel contains a codepath to call `passwd' directly when changing the current user's password. There's another path when setting the password for a different user which uses AccountsService. In the former codepath, the AccountsService call required to remove the user from `nopasswdlogin' is not executed (act_user_set_password_mode (..., ACT_USER_PASSWORD_MODE_REGULAR)). The proposed fix (in the attached MP) is to always make this call when setting a password, even in this passwd case. [ QA ] Run the test case above. Additionally, - Try to use the dialog to change passwords without unlocking it. - Try to change both the current and another user's password. Make sure the nopasswdlogin membership is right at all times and the new password always gets applied (e.g. try logging out and in to check the settings). [ Regression potential ] The fix changes a couple of things - We now call act_user_set_password_mode () after running passwd. - We now call act_user_set_password () before act_user_set_password_mode (), which is the opposite of the previous order. AFAIK both of these changes are fine, but we should run the QA tests above to get confidence that they didn't break password setting. [ Original description ] 1. Go to path "System Setting --> User Accounts--> Unlock" to unlock system setting. 2. Click "Password --> Action --> Log in without password -->Change to clear Log in password. This is due to a behaviour change in snapd (no longer accepts login requests from non-root users). Existing credentials continue to work. [Test Case] 1. Delete any existing credentials by deleting passwords marked "com.ubuntu.UbuntuOne.GnomeSoftware" using Seahorse. 2. Start GNOME Software 3. Search for a snap (e.g. "moon-buggy") 4. Install Snap 5. Enter Ubuntu One credentials when prompted Observed result: Dialog says "Incorrect email or password". Expected result: Authentication completes and the snap is installed. [Regression Potential] The solution is to use a new D-Bus service (snapd-login-service) and new library (snapd-glib) to get the Macaroon from snapd. This has some risk of introducing new bugs. The change is minimised (other snapd code paths unchanged) and the alternative is login to be impossible.
