Re: service manual
Considering the extremely small market for GTS service manuals, I hardly think it will kill Yamaha if the thing is posted on the web in .pdf format as the microfiche is for the benefit of the owner who needs to occasionally look at it. It not like its a Metallica song that has a market potential in the millions. Yeah yeah, I know, its the principle of the thing. I suppose that technically, copying the manual for your OWN use is no worse than copying a music CD or tape for your own use, but to talk about distributing it... well to me, that's a clear violation of the copywrite law. If Yamaha wants to give its blessing to such a project, in written form, signed off by the president of the company, then I don't see a problem. I see a big problem, legally, if they won't, which is what I expect of them. And that's not because Yamaha is a bad company, its just that they have the copywrite and that manual is theirs to do, or not do, with as they see fit. Guys, I asked the folks at KN if they plan to make a Power Commander II for the GTS1000. There reply is included below. I want one of these units, as even with all the tweaks that I have taken off this list, I still find that 1st and 2nd gear are a bugger between 3K and 4K rpm. Any more bright ideas? For those of you planning a trip to the IOM in 2001, I would love to join you if you have room for another GTS in your group. My reasons for this are simple 1) My family moved there in 1980. 2) Half off them still live there..including 4 of my 5 brothers. ( Be afraid.. they range from 18 to 4.5 yrs old) 3) I have taken the GTS round the circuit a couple of times, and it is just the best ride ever. When I first passed my bike test 2 years ago, I was introduced to one of the TT race marshals, and spent a frantic afternoon trying to catch him on his jetted VTR1000. (I was on my 1st bike, a Suzuki GSX600F, with about 2 months experience behind me). Anyone on this list in GB? I just got my insurance renewal notice at ?655.00 TPFT! This is through Carol-Nash. Any recommendations. Since my bike was imported specially into the UK several brokers won't touch it. And finally.. after only 5K miles my Chain ( cleaned and lubed after every ride) has developed tight and slack sections. How bad can this get before I need to change things, and is there a measurement I can do to check my chain, to find out exactly how bad things are. Also, can anyone recommend a brand of chain that might last me a bit longer. There are about half a dozen in my group making somewhat serious plans. We will likely have three from New Mexico, and two or three from Oregon. As for "another" GTSI plan to rent, not ship mine over. Would love to have the GTS for a Euro-tour, but think that for shorter time frames renting is so much more reasonable. And.uh...a Blackbird sounds fun anyway. :) You'd be welcome at any rate. Let me know off list if you're interested in being included in the planning. Phil P.S. Any other GTSs going to be there? ~
