euro short screen et al.
Hi all, Over time I've seen some references to the short euro screen (the OEM one supplied with the bike here in "Yurrup"). Seems like some of you would fancy one, I wouldn't mind parting with mine since it's too small for my big frame. Hey, I wouldn't even mind some kind of deal involving a pair of used Helis coming this way (had to try, Jim G.). Anyone interested? Different topic: I've changed my clutch lever, installed an YZF one with adjustment wheel. Works great and puts the work area just where you want it. It's a bit shorter, so this works best for small-medium hands, but mine are shovel size and it doesn't bother me. They come in chrome so you don't have to remove any paint (somebody should have told you before, right, Steven?) Still hoping someone who knows tires can tell me the speedometer error I'd get moving from the stock 130 to a 120/70. I don't know how to calculate it, any input from you guys? Take care, Roberto. PS (George P.) : I've got to agree with the other guys whose income depends on copyright, George (mine does too). The fact that you don't like copyright law doesn't redeem you from complying with it. Just like with speeding or giving the finger to the IRS, you're free to do it at your own risk, but please don't lecture us to show it's right and cool and you're right and we ain't. Price, Clutch lever, and Speedo error (was RE: euro short screen et al.)
As far as Euro screen, how much? What YZF model and year? Sound like something I want now. My Speedo error came to just under 2 miles less at 100 miles traveled. Confused? Or 98 miles indicated when actual 100 miles traveled. mm? 2% error rate. But this is only a worry if you speed just a little. You will never get out of a 20 over the speed limit ticket. -- From: Roberto Alonso[SMTP:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Reply To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, June 13, 2000 3:59 AM To: Multiple recipients of list Subject: euro short screen et al.
RE: Helmets are for Intelligent Riders
I disagree and side with the AMA in saying everyone should be allowed to be stupid if they are only injuring themselves. I'm throwing in with Louis on this one. The insurance thing is a slippery slope down which we do not want to Me too. Motorcyclists should no more be expected to carry additional insurance than anyone else, as the evidence indicates we are no more or less likely to have medical insurance than anyone else. Also, depending on whose statistics you read/believe riders may actually spend somewhat less time in hospitals/other care facilities than other classes of motor-injured individuals. The government does good things and bad things. Requiring that everyone have special insurance for any activity that they do, makes no sense. The only way to avoid all risk is to be dead, and right now I prefer life, even with its risks. Regards, Henry S. Winokur 94 GTS1000, AMA, MRF, MD/MSF Certified Instructor West Bethesda, MD
speedo error
Still hoping someone who knows tires can tell me the speedometer error I'd get moving from the stock 130 to a 120/70. I don't know how to calculate it, any input from you guys? I don't know if it is from the tire change or just built in error. My GPS3 indicates I am moving aprox 76mph when my speedometer reads 80mph. I am running MEZ4's. 120/70 front. My current MEZ4 rear isn't broken in yet. :) Can you say power slides in the corners?? hehehee heh Louis
Re: Helmets are for Intelligent Riders
re-read what you quoted. How about this: a helmet may save as many stupid riders (squid boy flip his GS1100) from dying as they do save inteligent riders from becoming vegetables. This was my interpretation anyway. Louis What kind of logic is that, Kev? So all those riders saved from becoming veggies by their helmets (I count me as one of them) are not worth saving because of the burdon of all those that are consequently saved from death but become veggies??? .. so it follows that they may save as many vegetables from dying as they save riders from becoming vegetables...
OT - Digital Cameras
I am looking at the possibility of going digital for my basic camera requirements. I would like a camera that takes a decent quality picture, works in low light, and cost is affordable (relative term.) I don't require a large number of pictures so I don't think memory should be a major issue. I am looking for suggestions and/or comments about digital cameras you have or have seen used. Thanks, Louis
RE: OT - Digital Cameras
After looking at the ZDnet review of digital camera, I bought a Olympus D-360L. I am very satisfied with it. See : http://www.olympusamerica.com/product.asp?c=34s=12p=16product=527 It has 1.3 Mpixel allowing 1280 x 960 picture. You can take picture inside without a flash, (If you don't move). It has macro mode to take close-up picture of motorcycle parts. It has a 1.8 " LCD screen. It can do panoramic picture if you use Olympus smart cards by combining several picture with the software they provide. The only thing I don't like is it need a lot of batteries, but at less they are regular AA batteries. Some camera use special battery that can be very expensive. It also have a lot of accessories. There a lens that allow you to do 360 degrees pictures. If you don't want to use the supplied wire to connect to the computer, there also diskette that is available for 50 $ at circuit city. It has a slot to put the smartcard in it. You just have to put the diskette in the computer. It's portable, save your batteries when you do download, I also use it to move big file in between computer since the smartcard can hold up 8 MB. Re: OT - Digital Cameras
My main suggestion is buy one made by a camera company, not a computer company. The electronics are pretty similar, but the lens makes a difference. Beyond that, get at least 1.3 million pixels, 2.1 million if that's in your price bracket. More than that is more expensive than reasonable right now and whatever you buy, you'll be kicking yourself in six months when it's half the price. (As for Richard's suggestion on the Olympus D-360L, can't fault that. I've been using a D-320L, its grandpa, and it has served me well. I'll upgrade in another price drop or two and put the 320 on ebay. As for batteries, get some lithium rechargeables. Well worth it for any digi camera.) Joe. From the context of the burden on society, not an individual's worth. I'm not saying you are worth less--just the same--I'm counting all people as equally valuable (even though GTS rider's are inherently more intelligent, and thus worth more intrinsically, yada, yada). I'm saying the NUMBERS seem to cancel out! My premise is that EVERYONE is worth saving, and worth being saved by their choice of appropriate gear. For me, this includes a helmet, and it did save me once. I'm just trying to understand the data that does not seem to clearly indicate helmets are better all the time no matter what, which was my initial intuition before I started paying attention to what little info there is. Re: GTS as a Dual Sport
I'm with you. The GTS makes a LOUSY dirt bike. Ask me how I know- There's a road from Gateway, CO to Moab, UT which my DeLorme software didn't identify as UNPAVED. 20 miles of loose, soft, clay. Hmm. Kelly, as I recall you've also come to the conclusion that the GTS would make a lousy snowplow. :) Phil *ROTFLMAO* Yeah, somehow I expected you to chime in on that! It's a pity we didn't get a picture of my GTS with its nose buried in the snowdrift at the side of the road. (for those who haven't been on the list over a couple years, it seems that whenever Phil tries to take me out riding some REALLY cool roads, we wind up in snow. This was a particuarly interesting trip in a winter wonderland- I got on a bad angle, and had to ditch into a snowbank at the side of the road. I managed to keep it upright though) -K == Kelly CashMain: 408-727-5497 Solid Data Systems FAX: 408-727-5496 2945 Oakmead Village Court [EMAIL PROTECTED] Santa Clara, CA 95051 www.soliddata.com ==

I don't require a large number of pictures so I don't think memory should be a major issue. I am looking for suggestions ... I have a Casio QV-2000UX. LOVE it. Repeat, LOVE it. Great pics, does all sorts of cool things. Very fast lens, great pics in low light. Takes 30-sec AVI movies. Great panoramic editor. Fully automatic, but can manually override anything. Aperture, shutter priority, etc. It's great. I have a 64MB CompactFlash card, holds 75 pics in large size (1600x1200, fine mode). In small mode (800x600, fine) it holds over 200 shots. Will take any size CF cards, they come up to 128MB now. Also will hold the 340MB IBM Microdrive if you want. I investigated a LOT of cameras. This was (for me) the best as far as quality, size, versatility, etc. 2.1megapixel. I spent $509 last December at computers4sure.com. RE: Helmets are for Intelligent Riders
The idea of insurance is that we all put in our money and then we all get to do more or less what we want, knowing that if we have accidents our medical bills are covered. It doesn't mean that we all have to do the same things. If we start trying to pick and choose who is covered, the system won't work. I'm willing to cover someone who does rock climbing, because they cover me while I ride my bike. Is rock climbing stupid risk-taking? It seems so to me, but that's the rock climber's business. I do wear a helmet, and I think it's dumb not to, and I even favor laws that require kids to wear them (against peer pressure). But the reason isn't financial, it's because I hate to see people leave their brains on the road. Gil H.
Re: Helmets are for Intelligent Riders
I am pro-choice on this issue. I believe we should have the choice to wear a helmet or not. I do think that it is wise to have minors be forced into wearing helmets. I hate being legislated to be safe. I do think that the insurance writers are trying to get the laws written to make accidents more survivable. I believe the emphasis should be on accident avoidance, rather than survivability. Louis P.S. I also believe strongly against driving after drinking/drug use. If a person is found to be DUI they should loose their lisence, right then, right there. Taxi cab home, tow the vehicle. No tolerance. Just my opinion. P.P.S. Why is it that we are required to wear a helmet when we ride motorcycles and bicycles, but not if we ride a moped? Why when we ride an ATV, mountain bike, or dirt bike; but not when someone rides a horse? Gotta be mega-pixels, need good lens quality, probably need to spend @ least $400-600 minimum if you want good snapshot quality prints.
