Well, rifle-toting bikers are not quite common around here, but being a pro
photographer, I had fashioned a similar rig for my bigger tripods on my
older bike, which I used every day at work just like the GTS. I took the pvc
tubing approach already mentioned, with a latching system attaching to the
passenger's foot peg handle (no, SHE doesn't get to come with me on photo
shoots). About 30 seconds to install or remove, then I threw my big camera
bag in the Givi top case and I was off. Always got to the shoot in style,
and first at the lab! - well, except when it rained cats and dogs. Took the
cage then. You know, for the dogs. I'm a cat person.

So how do you ride ? With the balls of your foot on the pegs, or your
arch
? (in the middle) ? I ride with the peg positioned on the arch, in the
middle. I have never had a problem with my wife or kids, but then I
"only"

I have a question for all of you two-uppers out there: How in the world
did
you solve the problem of keeping your significant other's foot off the
 exhaust?

Don't know about others, but after a couple hours on the bike, I'll ride
with anything on the peg (yes, ANYTHING I said, SA's), switching foot
positions once in a while to stretch them a bit,and I've met that problem
too. Usually I -and most others, I suspect- place the arch on the peg for
slow, casual riding, then move to the ball of the foot purely on instinct
when increasing speed or bank. Most of my right shoes have a wedge worn off
the front/side area, and my tires tend to show a bit more wear on the right,
too. Maybe that's because I'm chicken, but giving the circumstances, it's
just as well for me.

I'm about to fashion some kind of rest/platform/separator to install to the
peg, I'll let you have a pic when I'm done. I'm all for moto-specific boots,
but for a quick saturday hop to the beach with "the boss" on the back, hey,
if any of you guys can talk her into wearing them, I'm ready to buy you a
cool shellfish dinner. Oysters, anyone?

Roberto.

What?!?!?
Going too fast?? No such thing. To really appreciate the GTS finer qualities you NEED
take a 30 MPH (48.28032 KPH) Corner at 60-70 MPH (96.56064-112.6541 KPH) with a slight
wash board (ripples in the road). Wha Hoo! The GTS eats those corners up.

I often find myself thinking after the corners " mmm. Now where did that guy on the
ZX9 go to? He is not in my mirror any more"

Next you will be say stuff like the 'Busa has too much power. @=)

Speaking of tires. A ST1100 friend of mine called Bridgestone about the number change
(BT010 = BT57, Etc...). As they were cheating the representative said that he did not
have a direct replacement to his tire.
"I do not understand?" ST'er said "you said you make the size"
The rep said that ABS equipped bikes have a different tire then non ABS bikes. The
tire will have a "G" letter behind the tire size.

 in the world did
you solve the problem of keeping your significant other's

Last weekend my girlfriend and I were riding around the hill
 country and she
was unable to have much fun after a while because of the
 placement of her
right foot. I have a size 13 foot, and that doesn't leave
 much room for her
foot forward of the peg. Rearwards, her shoe would touch and
 burn on the
muffler. So, she would turn her foot outwards, but that's a
 pain after 100
miles or so. So the question is, are we doomed, or can I
 find, say, foot
boards that can be adapted to the GTS, or is there another
 way you guys have
figured out? As things stand, it puts a damper on our long
 range touring

Speedbleeders

2000-08-04 Thread Michael Esfeld

Hey everyone! Checking in from sunny Seattle...Blue Angels doing their thing
during Seafair. Good time to be here. I have a question about using the
Speedbleeders. I ordered two of them and I assume the proper way to change
brake fluid after installing the Speedbleeders is to open the fluid
reservoir, begin pumping the brake and pour in new brake fluid until the
color of what's coming out the Speedbleeder clear hose is the same color as
the new fluid. Voila! No air bubbles and nice new fluid! Is that about it? I
presume using this technique I'd need a bit more fluid to "clean out" the
old.

One other related question. I've read in past postings that people have
bought 3 of the Speedbleeders and the third is used to change clutch fluid?
I've only got 2. So I presume once I seal the brake resevoir I could take
one of the Speedbleeders off and screw the original part back on without
losing fluid. Am I correct about the third clutch nipple? Is it good to
change with the brake fluid or just leave well enough alone. Bike has about
12,500 miles on it. Thanks

No, you cannot bleed and then remove the speedbleeders, because you will
then have to bleed again. Also, make sure for the front wheel that you
remove the caliper from its mount, and hang it so the zerk is the highest
point. Failure to do that will likely cause a large amount of air to be
trapped. if the brakes are mushy, then air bubbles are probably the
problem. Not that the GTS had great brake feel to begin with, IMO.

Actually, you'll need four. One on the front caliper, two on the rear and
one for the clutch. Yes, your technique should be fine except you should

I have just spent the last year getting a set of Piaa 1200 mounted in a fashion that
suited me. I first tried mounting them under the headlight, not enough clearance! They
hit the fender!
I finally found a craftsman with the talent and tools to make me a set of brackets

They are perfect!! I can't believe how good the project has turned out. And the
1200's turn night to DAY!
I hope the electrical system can handle them, they don't pull that much juice from the

I hope to have some of these brackets avaliable for sale to my fellow GTS riders. I
also hope to have some pictures on a web site soon.

2000-08-04 Thread Louis Tweed

I have the Saeng/TA nightcutters on my GTS. I like the light produced
alot. The mounts I don't care for very much. I am going to rework them
sometime next week. Saeng does not have a "factory" mount ready for you to
buy you will have to tell them what you want to do as far as mounting goes.
When I get mine reworked I will post pictures. Oh, no problem with the
electrical system as long as you use stock 55 watt bulbs in the lights,
change to 100 watt bulbs and you might have problems.

Jason, I thought you had PIAA 1400's. Anyway, I also have a set of those I
just mounted on my father's Venture, and will make a bracket to mount the
1400's on the GTS also. Just in case I like the light from them better than
the Saengs.
Louis
P.S. For others on the list who have Ventures, let me know if you might be
interested in a set of these brackets. They replace the stock horn brackets
and add the PIAA's just below the horn. :)

Has anyone tried to run auxiliary lights (ex. PIA's) to the GTS. Can the
 GTS sustain auxiliary lighting??

I was contemplating a system from Saeng Co./NightCutters (also known for
their "Winglet" Syst.). Has anyone attempted this??

Any recommendations, comments or advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

We'll be meeting at Grevey's restaurant in Falls Church, Va on August 8 at
6:30 pm for dinner, snacks, and/or drinks. The DC-Cycles mailing list is
having a get together there from 7-11pm. There will be lots of bikes, $2
beer specials (for the non-riders of course), and SpeedVision motorcycle
racing on all of the TVs. A total motorcycle-o-rama.
DIRECTIONS - from I495 (the beltway) go west on Rt. 50, take the first exit
to the right onto Gallows Rd., look to your right and there it is. For
online maps and additional info follow the link.

GTS owners card.

2000-08-04 Thread Alan Tooraen

I have a small J-peg I need to show the list. It is of a GTS owners card
that I have designed. I need the comments of the list members before I
get these printed. I get so frustrated explaining to people what type
and kind of bike a GTS is that I decided to do this full color laminated
wallet card so I can just show them. Very few motorcyclists have a
working understanding of what a GTS is all about it appears. Is it ok
to send a J-peg to the list??

Re: Speedbleeders

2000-08-04 Thread Bobgts2

Mike;
   You need 4 speedbleeders. 1-front brake,2-rear brake, 1-clutch. Once
installed do not swap them around, just get on their website and order two
more.

Re: Big bore kit

2000-08-04 Thread gtsbiker

Hey Kevin, I think maybe you've got this one backwards...if I'm not mistaken
the original factory settings were at the 5 o'clock to richen up (increase
the duration) we went the other way back to the one o'clock position. Just
to satisfy my own curiosity I did turn them back all the way
counterclockwise) to the 7 o'clock position man did it blow smoke!!

snip To accomodate the new air intake you could increase the
injector duration by adjusting the pots on the EFI module closer towards 5
 o'clock. snip

Well, I am personally NOT looking to reinvent the wheel. Either somebody
has kits to do it that have already been proven, or I do not do it. I
personally do not have the time to experiment on power mods. Kevin, where
are you ??? We need some feedback !!

Well now, this subject is very open. Power is determined by amount of
 air/fuel
mixture and how efficiently it is burned. My first step would be to
explore
 the
limits of the EFI system. How much fuel can it efficiently handle, how
much
air? Then the exhaust would be explored. Finally internal engine mods.
I
wouldn't open the engine until the intake/exhaust systems were analyzed.
If
 the
intake is doing all it can now it won't make much difference what jugs you
 stick
on the engine (assuming they are burning at max efficiency now.)

I too am looking for ways to make more power on the GTS. If anybody has
 any
suggestions, please let me know (other than getting another bike !)

Jim, this is a GTS owners card. It is the size of a drivers license ,
has a front and back, and comes with lamination. The back has space for
the owner to type in his personal info and put a photo of his own GTS if
wanted. Please let me know what you think.

Sincerely,

Alan Tooraen
