How would they know that ? Other than street corners, there's no curves in
 Florida ;-)

Apparently, Richard, you are spending too much time on the roads. Go check
the beachI think you'll find plenty of curves there!!!

Guys,

Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but I thought that BT57's now became
BT010's and BT56's became BT020's?

I had a set of BT57's fitted at the end of May, and after a trip down to
France and back (about 2K miles total), my Yamaha dealer says that they
will need replacing next service! about 3K miles at ?320.00 per set!

I intend to go for the BT56's AKA BT020's next time. I understand that they
are a little firmer.

BT020's replace the BT54s which are higher mileage tires. BT56s are even
softer than BT57s.

I have a BT57 on the rear that has gone about 8k miles now, and looks like
it has another 5-6k left. The front D204 130/60 has about 7k miles and is
about shot. Most of my riding is cruising at 65-85 on the highway, but
when I do get to the twisties or ramps, I tend to accel, corner and brake
hard.

I used to go with the grippiest and softest tires I could, but replacing
them every 4-6k miles is a pain, so now I go for the sport-touring balance.
The BT57 seems to have worked well for me.

I have used BT57's quite a while and experience pretty much the same thing on
wear especially when riding loaded two up if we are doing any long straight
stretches like across Nevada where the speeds are held at around a 100mph
(maybe a little more). I thought this was pretty poor milage for a sport
touring tire then I talked to the Bridgestone rep and found out the 57 is not
a sport touring tire. It is listed as a high performance radial. I still
like the tire and have never had them slide unpredictably on me but next
time I will try the 020.

The 120/70 or 120/60 are much better profiles for the GTS1000. Keep the
pressures at 38psi front 40 psi rear and the handling is much better than
 the OEM 130/60.

I'm with Hugh on the "Slipstones" but Kevin Hawkins
swears by them--might be the weather down here in
Florida (could be the burn-outs). If you keep it
under 90 MPH I can recommend the Azaro's, if not, I
like the Macadams. I have only replaced tires as a
set, though, and while it hasn't eliminated the wobble
with all types of tires, it did reduce one variable.
Good luck!

RE: does size matter ?

2000-07-19 Thread Kevin Hawkins

The 120/70 or 120/60 are much better profiles for the GTS1000. Keep the
pressures at 38psi front 40 psi rear and the handling is much better than
the OEM 130/60.

I have a question.

I had my front tire replaced.=20

The service manual prescribes a 130 mm width front tire. My shop put on =
a 120 mm wide tire battlax. The bike steers just fine, but should I be =
worried about the size?
