Re: [Gvsig_english] Changing Language

2020-02-23 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Dear Sean,
to change the language just go in the Preferences -> General -> Language
and check the one you want for the GUI.

Then restart the application.

Dear all,
is there a way in gvSIG to duplicate a column of the attributes table of a

I need to work on the data contained in a column but I need also to
maintain the original column, any idea?

Thanks

[Gvsig_english] Georeferencing tools in gvSIG 2.3.1 final

2017-02-20 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Dear all,
I can not find the geographic transformation menu in my installation of the
gvSIG 2.3.1-2501 in windows 10.
I checked in the add-ons manager but it seems that the georeferencing
package is already installed... is there something else to install to have
these functionalities?
Do you have any idea on where can I find/install the tools for
georeferencing images?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Óscar,
the scripts work fine, many thanks again!
May I just ask you one more question?
Is there the possibility to remove a feature from a list of features? like
featureslist.remove() or something like that?
I tried with remove and delete but it seems that these do not exist, any
idea?

Is there a way to know which functions are implemented for each feature
type in gvSIG scripting?

Thanks

Re: [Gvsig_english] How to access schema from an input shapefile in scripting

2016-10-13 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Thank you Óscar,
to tell you the truth I started to use currentLayer but, since I need to
work with two layers I didn't know how to do and tried to load data from
files.
And in any case the final script should work with a list of shapefiles in a
folder, so, I will for sure move to the file based data source at some
point.

I was following the documentation you linked, it is very useful to start to
get familiar with the scripting environment, thanks!

I will try the scripts you sent to me and let you know if I will solve my
problems.

Thank you very much for the quick answer!

Silvia

[Gvsig_english] How to access schema from an input shapefile in scripting

2016-10-13 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Hi all,
I am trying to write my first script in gvSIG and Python, I need to read a
point shapefile and filter some elements that are outside a defined area.
To do this I have to read two input layers, one with the points and one
with the area and then work on each single features of the point layer.
I started with the selection of the input layers using a filechooser dialog
(commonsdialog.filechooser) and then I need to obtain the schema of these
layers, but it seems that the object filechooser do not have the
.getSchema() function.
Do you have any idea on how to obtain the schema from a vector layer
selected using the filechooser?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Silvia

Dear Surajit,
the JGrassTools package for gvSIG will be released about 2-3 months after
the final release of the gvSIG2.3.
As soon as the gvSIG2.3 is released we will test the package and after this
testing we will publish it.

sorry for the question, it was trivial because I didn't understand the
behavior of the CTRL for new features to select and for the already
selected.
Why didn't you used the SHIFT button also in the Map View?

[Gvsig_english] Multiple selection

2016-05-13 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Dear all,
just a quick question... is it possible to select features in more than one
step? I mean, usually the SHIFT button works for this purpose when select
one first time some features, leave the mouse's click and need to select
something else without redoing all the selection.
I noticed that if there are features selected that one wants to unselect it
is possible to press the CTRL and select the features to isolate.

Is there a way to do this in gvSIG?

Thanks

In fact I have java version "1.7.0_95" OpenJDK Runtime Environment. At the
moment I am not able (unfortunately) to install the version you sent to me
because this package creates a java folder but then I am not able to force
gvSIG installer to use the bin in that folder.
I will ask for some help here in office tomorrow.

Yes I tried but it is always the same, I can run gvSIG only from the direct
executable and not from the link in the Start menu.

[Gvsig_english] Raster styling

2016-02-26 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Dear all,
I am using gvSIG 2.3 build 2423 on a windows 64 machine.
After creating a project I loaded both vectors and rasters (asc) maps and
gave a style to them using gvSIG tools.

If I close and reopen the program I can't see the raster maps even if I
delete them from the layers and reload them into gvSIG. If I want to see
the raster maps again I have to activate the color table and redo the
styling.
I found this error in the console, any idea on what I am doing wrong?

Now I can work with all my data in gvSIG.

And this last version of the 2.3 seems to work fine, except for some
problems with the selections of the layers in the layers view as I already

[Gvsig_english] Problem creating

2016-01-27 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Dear all,
I am trying to add two fields to a point shapefile with the coordinates of
the points X,Y.
I have this very simple shapefile (just 2 fields) created using an other
GIS in projection EPSG:3003. Following the instructions I should be able to
visualize the option Add Measure in the Table menu of the shapefile, but
for this file this option is not available.
Do you have any idea on what or where I am wrong?

Thanks

Silvia

PS: attached there is the shapefile... sorry for posting in the mailing
list but it is very thin.

Thank you guys!
It works now, but, when I convert the geometries from multipoints to points
I obtain the same feature 6 times (this for each point in the layer) do you
have an idea on why it happens?

Thanks

Re: [Gvsig_english] Problem reprojecting layers with OSM background

2015-09-02 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Ciao Antonio,
sorry for missing the version, you are perfectly right, I am using
2.1.0-2269 final version for Linux.

Do you have any idea on what it is programmed to have the new release of
gvSIG?
And also an other question: in the new version, using the new bindings for
GDAL, would it be possible to read directly the prj file in order to avoid
to specify the projection of the data every time you import them?

Thanks

Silvia

[Gvsig_english] Problem reprojecting layers with OSM background

2015-09-01 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Hi all,
I have a problem reprojecting some vector layers on a OSM background.
What I did is this:
1. I created a new view with the projection 3857 and imported OSM service
after installing appropriate the add-on plugin
2. imported a shapefile with projection 32632 and specified it in the panel
of the view -> add layer menu in order to have a on the fly reprojection
3. the result is that the shapefile is imported but not correctly
reprojected and it appears shifted from the right location.

What am I doing wrong? isn't it correct to start with a general projection
of 3857?
I had to do that because with 32632 projection for the View, the OSM map
wasn't reprojected.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance

[Gvsig_english] Some basic questions

2014-12-12 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Dear all,
I am new in GvSIG and I am trying to make some practice with it.
Here are some usability questions I can not solve by myself using the on
line material, could someone help me?
1. is there a way to make PAN without having to select the hand icon? I
mean, usually GIS and CAD use to press on mouse wheel to make PAN without
having to change the tool selecting a the specific one, it is something
always active like zoom with the mouse wheel
2. is there the possibility to change the color of a point symbol? I would
like to have the basic symbols, like circle, square, triangle and so on and
the possibility to change their dimension and color; if I select one of the
gvSIG basic symbols it isn't possible to change the color, only the
dimension can be set
3. when I select the theme for a point layer, is it possible to set also
the dimension of the points?
4. is there the possibility to view the details of the geometry selected
with the INFO tool? not only the attribute table of the selected geometry
(WKT) but all the details like the coordinates of the points of a line or
polygon or the area and length?
5. how does the snap work exactly? what does it mean exactly the snap
tolerance?
6. are shortcuts available in gvSIG?

Thanks for the help,

Regards

Re: [Gvsig_english] Some basic questions

2014-12-12 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Thanks Leonardo,

 2. just double click on the point symbol in the TOC (the upper left
section of the view) properties color ...

Ok, but if I wanto to change the point style in a square instead of a
circle, is it then possible to set the color? I tried and I wasn't able to
change the color from the proposed one in the list of symbols

 3. double click on the point symbol in the TOC properties size

I tried and it works also for the themed layers, but I have to change the
size for each of the category, is there a way to change the size of all the
categories at the same time?
I also noticed that if I write the value of the new dimension of the point
the program doesn't keep it, I have to use the arrows of the GUI... this
seems to be a bug in my opinion.

 5. snap toleranceI think to it as the area of influence of a magnet.
 Our magnet is the cursor

So it should work, but it doesn't work for me, if I use a bigger tolerance
the point should attract the edited vertex/point from farther right?

 dimension can be set
 3. when I select the theme for a point layer, is it possible to set also

 4. is there the possibility to view the details of the geometry selected

Re: [Gvsig_english] Some basic questions

2014-12-12 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Hi Mario,
thanks for answering.

 1. Yes, you can use the mouse wheel for Zoom in and zoom out. In the
gvSIG 2.1 version it has been improved respecting the 1.x one and it
 works very good.
It's planned to include the Pan option in the next builds, when the
 attribute editor option is active
 [
 http://blog.gvsig.org/2014/12/10/gvsig-2-1-alphanumeric-editor-at-the-view/
 ].

Would it be possible to keep the PAN option on pressing the mouse wheel
also if not in editing mode?

 2. On one hand, if you select a symbol from the gvSIG Basic library or
one of the other symbol libraries that can be installed from the add-ons
manager, you won't be able to change its colour.
It's because they are image files (SVG, PNG, BMP...), so their size can
be changed but not their colour.
If you create a new symbol, like Simple marker symbol type, you can
see that there's a marker style option, where you can select points,
triangles... You can change their colour.

Now I got it! thanks!

 4. For this option the information will have to be at the attribute
table. There's a tool to include that information automatically
(perimeter and area for polygons, length for lines and coordinates for
points). It can be done from the Table, in the Table-Add measure tool menu.

Ok, that is not exactly what I was thinking about, this is useful but in my
case I would like to know the geometries only for some features where I am
working. An additional information on the INFO tool with the WKT of the
geometry would be useful.

 5. The snapping option can be used in editing mode.

Yes, but it seems that it doesn't work for me even if I selected all the
layers to snap on.

 6. There are some shortcuts. You can see them in the menus. What other
 ones would you need?

Yes, to be faster with GIS I usually use shortcuts instead of going with
the mouse and select each icon/tool. Examples are:
- activate in PAN mode
- activate SELECTION mode.

Silvia

 Best regards,
Mario

Re: [Gvsig_english] Some basic questions

2014-12-12 Thread Silvia Franceschi
Ciao Antonio!
nice to meet you! :)
Thanks for the complete explanations!
After the gvSIG conference I am testing gvSIG for some applications and, in
my opinion, there are some usability issues that could help the user to
fast navigate and do actions with it.

If you think that some of my suggestions will be integrated in the next
release, so I will start to open feature request or issues, this will take
me some time, so, I will do it only if it has sense.

 Hi Silvia,

  1. is there a way to make PAN without having to select the hand icon?
I mean, usually GIS and CAD use to press on mouse wheel to make PAN
without having to change the tool selecting a the specific one, it is
something always active like zoom with the mouse wheel

Unfortunately it's not possible yet. IMHO this is a good feature request
in oder to improve the usability of the view navigation tools.

  2. is there the possibility to change the color of a point symbol? I
would like to have the basic symbols, like circle, square, triangle and
so on and the possibility to change their dimension and color; if I
select one of the gvSIG basic symbols it isn't possible to change the
color, only the dimension can be set

 True, this is a bug.

  3. when I select the theme for a point layer, is it possible to set also
  the dimension of the points?

It's possible for Unique symbols, but for more complex legend types (e.g.
categorical ones) you have to modify them one by one and, I'm agree with
you, it's very time consuming. In the past I wrote a Jython script in
order to add this capability to gvSIG 1.12 and, when I'll have a free
slot of time, I'll try to adapt it to gvSIG 2.1.

  4. is there the possibility to view the details of the geometry selected
with the INFO tool? not only the attribute table of the selected
geometry (WKT) but all the details like the coordinates of the points of
a line or polygon or the area and length?

It's possible to show the geometry as WKT directly in the Info tool.
For instance, point geometries are shown as WKT by default.
Instead, in order to show the WKT of more complex geometries like lines
or polygons, you should right click on the GEOMETRY textbox in the Info
window and then choose the Hide/show geometry as WKT option.
Finally, area and length are not shown in the Info window... And it
sounds like a useful feature request.

  5. how does the snap work exactly? what does it mean exactly the snap
  tolerance?

It should work as usual... Start editing, right click on the layer in
the ToC and choose the Editing properties option, define the snap
tolerance, select the reference layers to use for snapping, activate the
reference to object in the Snapping options (active by default) and
finally choose the snapping types (i.e. final point, nearest point, etc.).
Then you can edit your layer with snapping.

  6. are shortcuts available in gvSIG?

Shortcuts are more or less available and working in gvSIG.
For instance, you can see some of them in File and Show menus.

If you want, you can open some tickets (bugs or feature requests) in the
gvSIG desktop bug tracker [1] in order to share your useful suggestions
in a better place. Thank you very much! :)

 ciao
 Antonio
