I just recently managed to reshape my Stickelchen (headdress like Anne of Cleves wore) after it was deformed from water from the hoses putting out our housefire. It has still stretched but most of the shape is fine. But I also have a layer of felt and silk over mine so fine ripples can't really be noticed. I would recommend hair canvas. It's possibly called horse hair canvas in places but it's not relaly horse hair.. at least not only... It's a mottled grey colour and is reasonably easy to get. It's light weight and washable. After washing it loses a little stiffness but it sound slike it will still be quite ideal for a light linen. [h-cost] asking for suggestions to fix sleeves
Hi folks... I've finally gotten the brown kirtle pretty much done. Yay me! I tried it on for a final fitting the other night to get the hem dealt with, and I'll be, it fit. It actually fit very, very well. And it did what I wanted it to do. The problem, as you will see in the photo is the sleeves. It seems that I have taken a) too long to sew this dress together and b) that my weight training regime really is working. In short, my arms are too large for the sleeves. I do have a couple of ideas of how to fix that, but I thought I would ask here, just in case someone else has a better idea before I get started. The armhole is fine, the problem is that I have increased the size of my biceps by a full inch, and also increased the size of my forearm by about 1/2". And the dress was cut with skin tight arms, with the buttons placed on the outer edge of the opening. And one other note, I have learned that when you are experimenting, for goodness sake don't hand-sew. Save the 100% hand-sewn love and attention for things that are *not* experiments. You would think I would know that by now, you would think I would know that by now. There is a photo up, it can give you an idea of the problem, but not much more. http://evilapprentice.livejournal.com/ Suggestions? I can't find that CIBA Review currently exists. My sources don't show what years it was pubbed, though my (admittedly erratic) memory seems to be telling me it did exist. However, CIBA Journal ran from 1957 - 1993. It was indexed in Chemical Abstracts; in Textile Technology Index (1973-1989); & in World Textile Abstracts. Also indexed in the International Management Information Business Digest. Good Luck finding a library that carries them, we certainly don't.Former titles: Ciba-Geigy Journal (Switzerland) (0366-5380); Ciba Journal (Switzerland) (0007-8395) All this info is from a WONDERFUL source called Ulrichsweb. If your home library doesn't have it, or the print version called _Ulrich's Periodicals Directory_, send me the name of the magazine or journal you are interested in, and I'll look up the indexing for you. But, hurry, my electronic subscription will be running out soon, and it's MUCH faster to do this kind of thing electronically than in the dead trees version.
