Re: [h-cost] The OriginalRe-Enactor's Market
Not as much as I wanted to, but I managed to get some beautiful brass veil pins for the lady watching my animals while I am in the UK and a meter of very lovely linen for some caps, quoifes and forehead cloths for me. My 6 year old bought a 3 man morris game from gothic green oak, and I got to chat with the lovely ladies who are the authors of Tudor Tailor. It was amazing! [h-cost] Sous l'empire des crinolines
Does anyone have a burning desire to buy a copy of _Sous l’empire des crinolines_, a catalog for an exhibit in the Musée Galliera? I accidentally bought two copies from France. Fashions of the time of French Second Empire/mostly 1860s. It’s about 6 3/4” by 9 3/4”, 211 pages, clay-coated paper, fancy book design, text captions all in French, no English. The book consists mostly of lavish color photos—surviving women’s garments (including close-ups), jewelry, accessories, period paintings, period photos. Price is $84 including insured shipping by US Media Mail. If you think that is unreasonable, check out the prices on www.addall.com/used (which also lists many new books, like this one), and consider I paid for shipping from France—I’m charging what I paid. Also, this book is not carried by US booksellers as far as I know. [h-cost] silent film era scrap book
There's a silent movie theater, film fest museum in Niles, Calif. http://www.nilesfilmmuseum.org/festival2008.htm I'm not intrigued enough to contact the museum, but perhaps the owner of this lovely scrap book is. --cin Cynthia Barnes cinbar...@gmail.com Is there some museum dedicated to old black and white films? Maybe they could help identify some of the photos. It might even be worth something to them. It is quite a documentation of photos from that era. With a bit of work it would be a wonderful edition with labels and additional infor on what you can get. [h-cost] antique dress form?
Hello! I'm looking for advice on cleaning an early (1910s) dress form. The fabric is in almost perfect condition, but the metal bands and screws have some rust and (minor) corrosion. Most of the metal parts move well, but a few are stiff and so are some of the screws/nuts that allow for adjusting. If I use any rust remover or something like WD-40, I risk getting it on the fabric or leaving residue on the metal that might damage garments I put on the form. Help! Any suggestions ... or cautions? thanks! Melissa ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume

Did you also check out the one by Maya Pllisetskaya? I think I saw her do it ages ago. My parents took me to the ballet whenever the big companies came to town. IMHO, she was a lot better than Pavlova. Love the Trockadero costume. Re: [h-cost] Patterns date question
NOt that anyone would want to part with sucha a valuable item. I was suggesting it might contain missing photographs that are a part of history of old films. With all those photos of different people, most might have been lost over the years and few existing news articles, magazine articles or such of that era. That is what I meant. A collector would love to get one like this. A museum might want it for their collection of film era history. It might be somethng of HISTORICAL signifigance, as well as amusement value.
