Re: [h-cost] What's your dressmaker's dummy wearing today?
Mine should be wearing a muslin of the pattern we bought for my daughter's homecoming dance dress. However, my sewing machine is still in the shop. When he told me he didn't know if he'd be able to get parts - I found one on ebay and brought it to him for a donor - it's still not done! So, now my daughter insists we go dress shopping, because she's afraid she won't LIKE the dress even if we get it finished in time. umm... hello? She picked out the pattern and the fabric! Teenagers. Can't live with 'em, can't shoot 'em. Denise B ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
Re: [h-cost] overdying and yellowing silk
Oh, I have considered that as well, but it's such a soft, sweet velveteen, I hate to part with it. Still, I'd rather a cranberry/claret colored velveteen, so I may have to do it... alex On Thu, Sep 3, 2009 at 11:21 PM, Dawnd...@reddawn.net wrote: Alexandria Doyle wrote: In prepping for another project I was rummaging through the stash and came across a length of chocolate brown cotton velveteen Any suggestions? I should have elaborated. He is hard-core, and I want to get this right. Is the Past Patterns version accurate? I am out of my specialty and most of the art of the period shows a hood or mantle over the neckline. G! I find Kass McGann's patterns at www.reconstructinghistory.com well researched and documented in her notes pages. I know she has a men's cotehardie pattern. Re: [h-cost] What's your dressmaker's dummy wearing today?
I've got a princess seamed fantasy pirate vest on my virtual dress form. Saturday is opening day of the local ren faire and opening weekend is pirate weekend so it seemed the natural thing to do. I made a new skirt out of red scrim, and I re-furbed an old one to wear over that for modesty. Most sewing I've done in years. One of my dress forms is wearing a linen undergown and linen overdress I just hemmed for a friend. She bought it ready made, and it was pretty, but about six inches too long. The other one is sadly, at the moment naked except for a couple Viking things belonging to another friend that need work and are just tossed over the top. [h-cost] garment rack on sale
The container store is in the final weekend of a sale, included is a very nice heavy duty garment rack: Commercial Garment Rack http://www.containerstore.com/browse/Product.jhtml?CATID=78790PRODID=68653 It is sturdy, can be jam-packed with as much clothing as possible space-wise without collapsing. Only drawback is that the wheels don't have locks. I have several of them and love them, beats any other garment rack I've ever owned. -- Katy Bishop, Vintage Victorian katybisho...@gmail.comwww.VintageVictorian.com Custom reproduction gowns of the Victorian Era.
