Re: [h-cost] Source for Hat Blanks
Jas. Townsend (http://jas-townsend.com/) also sells hat blanks. Their web site lists a "Wool Felt Hat Blank HB-902" for $24. Re: [h-cost] WW1-WW2 German military formalwear? Now: Austrian, pre-WWI
Although some of their detail can be dodgy, Osprey Publishing may be worth looking into. They often have colourful renderings that may be used as tertiary, some photos and general descriptions...ospreypublishing.com from memory. The big question, though, is why not go to the source, contact the Austrian government and hunt down some contacts? -C. > Does anyone know of a resource with photos or > drawings of Austrian uniforms (no necessarily > dress) for the period from the late 1800s to just > before... Re: [h-cost] [ h-cost] Tom Tierney, was Fashion crisis!
Just have to give my two cents on Tom Tierney. Of course, in fairness, it was an inquiry about using him as a source that started this thread. However, I want to say that I regard what he does as akin to theater. He is making mass market paper dolls, for heaven's sake! I have many of them myself. His drawing, I think, is excellent, even if he gets actual costume details wrong sometimes. If his paper dolls spark a costume interest in a little girl (or heck, a full grown man or woman for that matter) well, then I think that is great. I was actually surprised to hear that he did research at such a place at FIT, but, upon reflection, he couldn't do what he does without doing some kind of research. After all, he draws from, what, pre-Medieval times right up to the minute--I think he always does the latest president's family. (Did you all see the Woodstock book that came out last year?) You might check Hats by Leko, although I don't remember their website or their prices. I haven't purchased from them for a while. Re: [h-cost] WW1-WW2 German military formalwear? Now: Austrian, pre-WWI
Does anyone know of a resource with photos or drawings of Austrian uniforms (no necessarily dress) for the period from the late 1800s to just before WWI? There seems to be a big gap in what's published between Napoleanic and WWI. Thanks, Kathy Hoover At 02:15 AM 8/21/2010, you wrote: It isn't really comprehensive, but _Uniforms of the Infantry 1919 to the Present_ by Jörg M. Hormann has a section on walking out uniforms, and some pictures of mess uniforms from that time. It's volume 2 of a series called "German Uniforms of the 20th Century". Volume 1 was on panzer troops (which I haven't read), and I don't know if there were any others. -- Chris Bertani www.goblinrevolution.org/costumes On Fri, Aug 20, 2010 at 06:01, Tiberius Clausewitz wrote: > Can anybody recommend fairly comprehensive sources for the more formal kinds of uniforms worn in the German military services during the two World Wars and the intervening period? I'm mostly looking for information on walking-out dress and the German equivalents--if any--of Anglo-American mess dress (both the white tie and the black tie varieties), and the timeframe I'm interested in is actually something like 1895-1945, so a bit broader than just the two World Wars but still closely related. > > Thanks beforehand for the recommendations! > > > > ___ > h-costume mailing list > h-costume@mail.indra.com > http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume > ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume

My apologies, I had a "duh" moment when I asked. I have the book from when I use to do illumination and kept it for costume use. :P Yes, it clearly is not a red beaded edge sheer cape. De ___ h-costume mailing list h-costume@mail.indra.com http://mail.indra.com/mailman/listinfo/h-costume
