Re: [Hampshire] [IMPORTANT] Networking for this weekend's Bring a Box meeting
I have not replied on list. Please do not post email like this again to this list, they are not helpful. Chris has put a lot of effort into securing the University venue for our use. We jump through whoops and we do not complain as we are not paying for the university. If you don't like the whoops you don't have to go to the meeting. Adam, I've noticed that veto of discourse is a tradition peculiar to this isle. I, conversely, consider my post to be fair-comment. Perhaps this is a sycophantic community, I don't know yet, however I think it's in the community interest that people feel free to speak their minds. Unless what you're looking for is a stagnant community of yes men. As a taxpayer, asymmetric taxpayer, in so far as I pay a lot and receive very little in return - I believe I have every right to criticize bureaucratic inefficiency. Is there really someone from that University who is going to say? Oh, what cheek, he mocked our clumsy DHCP setup - henceforth and forthwith I will terminate all access permissions for Linux users and make Windows 7 compulsory!! Grow up, and message me on list. I'm sure this has got more to do with my mockery of your previous, pompous, posting than a concern for the greater good. If you (or someone you can influence) runs the list, and you (or they) don't like my opinions, feel free to unsubscribe me. I've noticed that veto of discourse is a tradition peculiar to this isle. There is no such veto of discourse. There are, however, a number of us who consider your posts to be less than helpful, and who would be especially pleased were you not to post further. I, conversely, consider my post to be fair-comment. I, conversely, consider your post to be the work of an arse. I am sure I am not alone. Perhaps this is a sycophantic community No, it isn't. It is, however, appreciative of the amount of effort one volunteer is putting into getting us a meeting place for free. There is no way that your post could possibly aid that endeavour; it could - likely, would - discourage that volunteer to the extent that he will think twice about helping us out in future. This is not helpful - to anyone. I don't know yet, however I think it's in the community interest that people feel free to speak their minds. Yes, everyone should feel free to speak their minds. But they should also expect a backlash when their mind is full of nothing but spite. Your post was excessively rude, and I, for one, would like to see the back of you as a result. As a taxpayer, asymmetric taxpayer, in so far as I pay a lot and receive very little in return - I believe I have every right to criticize bureaucratic inefficiency. You spoke of tax dollars. Are you a UK tax payer? If not, you have no such right whatsoever. If you are a UK taxpayer, you have every right to realise that the support we are currently getting from the University is all volunteer-based, and thus nothing to do with taxes. If you (or someone you can influence) runs the list, and you (or they) don't like my opinions, feel free to unsubscribe me. You are free to unsubscribe yourself. I really, really hope you will exercise that freedom. Adam is most emphatically not offensive, ever that I have seen. I did not describe him as offensive, I described his previous posting as pompous. He is Chairman, and a very good one. What are you? Did you suddenly get appointed to a position of responsibility? You cannot have been elected since there has not been a recent election. I claimed no such position of responsibility, nor did I seek one. How did you come to that conclusion? Or are you just pulling some sort of rank? I'm guessing a large part of the responders, and this is a complete shot in the dark - are employed by such institutions and as such with brook no criticism. You would be wrong in at least three cases. I do not know where the others work or whether they work at all. And there are how many that support you? No-one is ganging up. You are just a very offensive character who is so self-opinionated that he believes that anyone who dislikes his behaviour must of necessity be ganging up with someone else. Lisi What is this behaviour to which you refer? I presume the other list members are keeping out of this because they are laughing at either: a) Me or b) You or c) Only come here for advice on how to get their Alcatel win-modem up and running, and stay well up-wind of any geek ranting. When individuals are giving up time and effect to help an organisation whose primary role is to help and support others, there should be nothing other then respect for shown to those individuals. Although I wont be able to attend this meeting I am grateful that people are committing time and effect into trying to ensure such meetings take place as I will be very grateful when time allows me to go and have somewhere to meet people who have an interest in a common subject. I personally feel that either Bryan should reflect and apologise, or be removed. And for the record I am private sector employee, and I have thoughts on many subjects including public sector spending, but I keep those for interested and relevant parties only. [Hampshire] DVI to HDMI for PC
Hi all Has anyone had any problems with DVI to HDMI connection for PCs? I'm considering getting myself a new huge monitor. Some have standard VGA, some don't - and I certainly don't want to pay extra for VGA. All have HDMI. My graphics card has a DVI output so really all I need is a £5 DVI to HDMI adapter or cable and job done. However it got me thinking about times before when I've, for instance, tried S-Video to use a huge TV with the PC and it really struggled to keep up. I strongly suspect there will be no problem at all but thought I'd ask. Cheers Rob -- Please post to: Hampshire@mailman.lug.org.uk Web Interface: https://mailman.lug.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/hampshire LUG URL: http://www.hantslug.org.uk --
