What is the entire message?

GT.M may be trying to tell you that you have processes accessing the
database and that it cannot be rundown. Maybe you have active Taskman
processes that need to be shut down before you turn off the computer?

[Hardhats-members] Messaging from CPRS

2005-02-23 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I understand that when a user clicks or double clicks on something in CPRS that
this typically results in some action by an RPC broker call. How can we
deterimine what CPRS is sending back to the M job? Are the parameters on the
tag represented by RPC call coming from CPRS or the job that is running on the
server or both? How can I determine what they are. Can anyone tell me what
RPC manuals I ought to read and maybe even what section?

[Hardhats-members] Orders list

In CPRS there is an orders tab. If you click on that you get a list of things

coming from? Is it from either 100.98 or 101.41? Where is the parameter that

To add from the list use this option. See examples below. The files are
coming from the ORDER DIALOG FILE. You might have to create the list.
Usually you can copy an existing one and modify it to your taste. To do
that you have to use this menu (MN Enter/edit order menus [ORCM MENU]).
There are existing one you can use to copy and make it your own. They are
called OR ADD MENU CLINICIAN...NURSE..WARD CLERK. You can copy these and to
make it your own call them ORZ ADD MENU CLINICIAN or NURSE or WARD CLERK.

RE: [Hardhats-members] Orders List

2005-03-07 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Must confess it is only slightly clearer than mud, perhaps because I do not
know how the Windows registry works either. I just want to know how to taylor
the list of orderables and I think that Elsie's comment has allowed me to do
that.
Jim Gray

Here's something I wrote a few weeks back (not on hardhats) that might
 be helpful:

As you probably know, the parameter tool is designed to manage a set of
key/value pairs very much like the Windows registry. The key point is
that the same key may be defined at various levels of granularity:
USR (user), CLS (class), LOC (location), SRV (service), DIV
(division), “SYS” (system), “PKG” (package), and more. The key point
(no pun intended...well, maybe a little) is that a given key can be
associated with different types of granularity (called “entities” in
the parameter tool documentation), and when retrieving a parameter
value, you needn’t specify the particuar entity in which you are
interested. In fact, a common use case is searching through a list
(e.g., “USR^CLS^PKG”) or through all of them, looking for the first
“hit”. Now, why might this be useful? Imagine a parameter that contains
the location of a laboratory. Most physicians may wish to use th
nearest laboratory (a hit under “LOC”), but maybe there is no
laboratory associated with their location and they need a default. It’s
also possible that a physician may practice a specialty where not just
any laboratory will do, but instead they may need to use a laboratory
that has more specialized equipment, even if it isn’t the closest.

Now, one thing that can be confusing about the parameter tool is that
some entity types need to be qualified and some do not. For example, I
have used “USR” level parameterts to allow users to specify where they
want certain host files saved (or retrieved). Different users have
different default directories under VMS, and so they want to get
different answers when asking for a directory to use. Accordingly, in
the generic query (CSLQQ) you find the following

 S UDIR=$$GET^XPAR(USR,CSL QUERY DEFINITION DIR)

But how does the parameter tool know which user is invoking this code?
The obvious answer is that it looks at DUZ. But what if I wanted a
value associatd with a location? That’s harder because there is no
convenient variable to check. The answer is that “LOC” needs to be
qualified in the call using “LOC.somewhere” instead of just “LOC”. The
following code, kindly supplied by Kevin Meldrum, shows how a value
might be qualified at runtime by setting LOC to the SERVICE/SECTION
pulled from file 200 and appending the internal value to “SRV”. (The
entity “LOC” is used to refer to entires in the HOSPITAL LOCATION file
(#44). I realize I’m kind of confusing things by switching from “LOC”
 to “SRV”. Sorry about that.)

 S LOC=+$G(LOC)_;SC( I 'LOC S LOC=
 S ANENT=ALL^_LOC_$S($G(^VA(200,DUZ,5)):^SRV.`_+$G(^(5)),1:)
 S MNU=$$GET^XPAR(ANENT,ORWDX WRITE ORDERS LIST,1,I) Q:'MNU

I believe it is possible to use a .01 value here, but a pointer may be
used as “`253” or (in variable pointer syntax) “253;SC(“.

Generally “PKG” is the “value of last resort”, that is, the least
specific value you may wish to associate with a key. System, or “SYS”
is one step down from that, giving a value that applies to anyone using
the parameter at a given facility (unless something more specific
 matches, instead).

 Clear as mud?

[Hardhats-members] Problem while connecting to server using crossover/wine

2005-04-11 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I was just trying to get the CPRS to work on Linux (seeing many of you do
it successfully).
I installed the Crossover trial version and tried to connect to the server
using the command:
./wine CPRSChart.exe CCOW=DISABLE s=IndiaVistA p=9200
But it didn't connect to it, so I tried installing the RPC Broker Client
and tried to run CPRS again. Now the error message I get is Error with
Listen - CLAGENT will close.

And the CPRS demo does not work too. I used the command
./wine CPRSChart.exe CCOW=DISABLE s=CPRSdemo.va.go p=23
But this doesn't seem to work too.

It says there is some access voilation in both cases.

Have any idea what the problem might be?

[Hardhats-members] problem issuing item from warehouse to primary inventory point

2005-04-12 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hi

Have successfully made a Purchase Order and receive items against it. The
items were entered into inventory through the ADJUST INVENTORY QUANTITY
option.

Then I was trying issue the item to a primary inventory point using POST
ISSUE BOOK ORDER option. The warehouse balance has reflected the dispensing
but the inventory point (ENTER/EDIT INVENTORY ITEM option) does not show
it.

Now when I try to adjust the item into the primary inventory point using
the ADJUST INVENTORY QUANTITY option again, it does not work. The comment
it shows is THIS ISSUE BOOK HAS NOT BEEN POSTED (NO FMS LINE NUMBER) AND
CANNOT BE ADJUSTED.

Is this because I am using a wrong option? How can I do this?

[Hardhats-members] == Map of Routines in Cache and/or GTM ==

2005-09-28 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Tens of thousands of VistA routines are stored in Cache (in the database)
and in GT.M (in the file system), their names are really cryptic to say the
less.

Is there some way to know what each routine does without having to open
each of them and try to find out? Is there some document which has this
info in some ordered way?

If not, is there some way to make a “Map” of how the routines interact with
each other? UML? Something else?

Re: [Hardhats-members] Add New Patient in VistA

2006-04-27 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Hello Everyone,

I just learned about Vista being open-sourced from a mawolfe at a Linux
tradeshow. Can someone point me to links to get up to speed on how well Open
Vista can be deployed to a docotors' office. I worked for a company a while
which had two Physician Management System products and these were just not very
impressive. I know Vista is written in MUMPS and some other things from
crawling the web but any pointers to a summary like an executive summary will
be appreciated.
My company sells a Fully Loaded Linux platform so it makes sense to preload
Dr. Office and/or Hospital software as possible. The push is to get exposure to
the software or as we say it, Software is Free(tm).

Thanks!

Re: [Hardhats-members] Linux package handling and other... (was Re: Linux KDE question)

2006-05-09 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I think installs is an unsolved problem. The #1 issue with Linux right now.

Yum and CentOS is a nightmare. Maybe for RHEL and FC5 too? karan has some apps
built for CentOS but FC5 built apps are more generally found. Often you can
only get the source and have to build the app itself!

The Linux packaging dolts are using shared objects - the exact same problem as
DLL Hell in 'doze. Until the packagers mature enough to realize the package
must work in and of itself then you have to have a tool which sorts out the
dependencies. I've used Synaptic successfully - it's based on apt. But I'm
still sorting out this mess.

In short, yum install packagename is OK for some basics. And downloading an
RPM is OK for some basics. But when you want the latest and greatest pgadmin3
for instance then be prepared to go hunting for libcrypto.so3, *.so5 this and
*.so3 that. IMO, the Linux package installs are broken and unprofessional.
Maybe RHEL solces this? I've used the latest CentOS releases lately but they
are full major versions behind on their up2date packages such as postgresql.
Does RHEL have the latest postgresql, 8.1.3, in its up2date or is it 7.x or
8.1.0? Anybody know?

Contrast this with installing SQuirreL. Java code. Installs beautifully in
Linux and 'doze. I guess the Java folks have an upper hand in that the shared
library problems (jar's in the Java space) have been biting them since Java
came out so they know it is unprofessional to ship a program with external
dependencies. You have to resolve these dependencies by shipping the jar or
search code that finds the correct jar during the install process.

My opinion,

On package handling, Fedora uses yum (short for YellowDog Update Manager).
yum (RedHat, CentOS, and Fedora flavors) parallels apt-get (Debian,
Knoppix, and K/Ubuntu flavors). man yum will give more details, but if the
package repositories in the yum sources file has a particular package, it
would be yum install package name. Like apt-get there is yum
check-update and yum upgrade (similar to apt-get upgrade) as well.

I would STRONG urge NOT to use apt for rpm's from personal usage as well as
other tales of terror. ;-) Keep apt for the Debian forks, use yum for
 the RedHat forks.

As for Fedora itself...I would suggest CentOS instead. It is a week delayed
version of RHEL (RedHat Enterprise Linux), just without the RedHat labels
and tags due to their licenses. I have used it quite successfully for our
clients in the event they want a quick install (since Gentoo takes a few
days to compile from source after all ;-) ). CentOS does also have a server
only edition, which is 1 CD and is bare minimal packages (i.e., no fat
like X, KDE, Gnome, etc.). Fedora as Nancy and others have mentioned is
extremely too unstable and bleeding edge for a production environment.
 Personal use...one's call there obviously.

 HTH and FWIW.

Same for 'doze. One of my clients runs XP Pro 32 bit as the drivers for their

One other point about Linux Distros, I've learned that, you shouldn't
build (or buy) a computer without first checking the OS you plan to use
for appropriate drivers for your hardware (even Windows). If your
favorite Distro doesn't have SATA II support or run nVidia cards OR 64
bit CPU'S, either don't build it that way or find a Distro that does.

I am not quite sure where to start, and I'll try to keep this brief (I'll
need to keep this brief). Debian is actually an entire family of
distributions that include the core Debian distributions (Stable, Testing and
Unstable), the Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu/Edubuntu family, Mepis Linux, Knoppix,
Knoppix, Gnoppix, Damn Small Linux, Feather Linux, Morphix, and many more.

Knoppix is a hybrid of Stable, Testing and Unstable, and although it can be
installed on a hard drive, it is not really intended to be maintainable.
Don't try to use it for a production system.

Debian Stable may not always have the latest hardware drivers. If you have
bleeding edge hardware, e.g., with SATA drives, Debian Stable may not have
current drivers for them. [There is an entirely different philosophical
discussion as to whether you should use bleeding edge hardware unless you
have to. Imagine a drug manufacturer introduces a brand new statin, Maxtor.
Wouldn't you want to try something with a proven track record and well
understood side effects, maybe Pravachol, Zocor or Lipitor before trying
Maxtor? Similarly, bleeding edge designs are for those for whom proven
 hardware software won't suffice.]

Production versions (through Breezy Badger) of the Ubuntu series are
probably good bets, if Debian Stable doesn't support your hardware.

I haven't kept up with the Red Hat releases, but I am similarly not sure
that Fedora Core 5 is a good choice for a production environment. RHEL 4
would be more appropriate, and if you don't want to pay the bucks for RHEL
support, consider an RHEL clone like CentOS, or a lower priced alternative
 like Novell.

Well, at your advice, I just tried to install Debian 3.1r2 (sarge I
believe). And I was not impressed. The install interface is chui,
which seems unnecessary, but I could overlook that. But when it
failed to detect that I have a hard disk in the computer, I had didn't
know how to overcome that. Fedora did fine with it.

After it faild to find the disk, debian takes me to a list of the
installation process. I backed up one step to detect hardware. It
first loads up floppy modules, but then complains about missing
modules that look like they should be for my hard disk.

Anyway, I had heard that debian was essentially the same as knoppix,
which typically can get almost anything up and running. This is a
relatively new Dell desktop: model DCSM. I'm not sure how to tell
what my Fedora is doing successfully that Debian isn't.

I'm open to ideas, but I think I may stay with this working Fedora 5.

Re: [Hardhats-members] Linux and Windows on the same machine

2006-05-10 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

A couple of Windows interpreters exist and a couple of VM's onto which you
can install an OS. E.g. VMWare allows you to run Windows atop Linux and vice
versa and even supports access to the network and disks. It requires an install
of the Windows OS. WINE allows running Windows apps on Linux/Unix. Microsoft
has inserted breakage code to try to break their apps when run atop WINE as
WINE does not require a Windows install (it interprets Win32 drawing calls to X
Windows calls for instance).

P.S I've been coding in Java for some years now. It runs everywhere.

[Hardhats-members] Edit mode with up-arrow input

2006-07-04 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Hi! When I am in Edit mode, inputting data to a Fileman file, if the input begins with an up-arrow ^ , the routine assumes I am trying to jump. So it looks something like this:
GLOBAL NAME: ^TMP($J??
GLOBAL NAME: etc.
Is there some way to enter an input beginning with an up-arrow?
Thanks,
Michael Reach

Re: [Hardhats-members] Edit mode with up-arrow input

2006-07-05 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Chris, thanks for your response(s). I am writing a routine that does automated testing. In using it, the user needs to be able to enter some variable name which will be set equal to some initial value he sets. Sometimes that variable name is a global root (and normally he'd choose a temp global for the test like ^TMP($J, or ^UTILITY($J, ). So two of the input fields are GLOBAL NAME (where he inputs the root), and INPUT VALUE (which somehow indicates the value(s) to be loaded into that global for the test).
Similarly, I have two more fields for RESULT VARIABLE, and RESULT VALUE, so that the user can check whether the results are as expected after whatever he's testing runs. Again, RESULT VARIABLE may be a global root.
Anyhow, I'm not letting the user change the global by hand as you thought, I just want to let him input the darned name. I have the field defined as a node all by itself, E1-250 instead of a piece number so that the ^ won't cause errors, and it still won't let me include a ^ in the input.
Thanks,
Michael Reach
