Re: [H] AOL/broadband issue. - SOLVED

2008-02-26 Thread Bobby Heid
I found out what the issue was. He still had the dial-up-networking entry
for AOL on his system (which was marked as disabled). Removing that entry
allowed LU to start working again. For some reason, it was trying to use
the disabled entry.

Thanks for trying to help.

Bobby

When I say AOL in the same sentence, I had to clarify.
RR would mean always on
without regard to AOL's software. So therefore if all
other internet traffic is
working as expected there would have to be an issue
with live update itself. You
can download reinstall LU from symantec's site which
might solve you problem.

I'd be looking for calls from LiveUpdate, where they
are going, and the
resulting state of the connection.

What would I look for?

I don't think Live update is picking a connection,
but I do think it is
using the default connection. And I think AOL is
causing some sort of issue
here that Live Update is not handling properly.

 Thanks,
 Bobby

Wait, he moved from AOL to RoadRunner what? Cable?
 DSL? Dialup?

Maybe using TCPView from sysinternals to track what
is
 happening connection wise?

Timeout is hard coded AFAIK, so hang is not a simple
as can't reach host and I
can't see an LiveUpdate picking a specific connection.

 Hey,

updating. It quit updating at
the same time that he went from AOL dial-up to

Update does not seem to be able to connect and
appears to hang while trying
to connect. He refuses to let me remove the AOL
program because the web
interface to AOL is different and he is very, very
resistant to change.
Under network connections is an AOL connection and a
local area network
connection. Dial-up has been disabled and he can
connect via AOL or a
 browser/email.

I am thinking that for some reason Norton is trying
to get to its server via
the AOL connection and is failing. Does anyone know
how I might check this
 and correct this issue?

 Thanks,
 Bobby
