could it be grime internally blocking the buttons... this eventually
happens to me... the buttons stop working well or the wheel gets hung
up, and I have to take the mouse apart to clean it. Also sometimes
the silicon pads get dirty and I have to clean them with a scrub
sponge. The screws to take a Logitech mouse apart are always under
the labeling so you have to feel around for the cavity and then cut
it open to access the screw.

will somehow continue past and clear the box before I can click or hit any

I'm currently using a Logitech wireless mouse and I've tried replacing the

otherwise. Haven't had any issues in gaming or anything. But when it comes

it is an incredibly frustrating experience.

Any thoughts on what's going on?

I really do not wish to share that I buy keyboards and mice 3at a time;
but I do. Have been surviving this way since 2009.
Keyboard and mouse quality seems to be in the tank. The sign of
'commodity' hardware I fear.

Very seldom is the problem hardware related, such as a bad PS/2 keyboard or
mouse port. When it is, you can circumvent it (patch job) by using a USB
keyboard or mouse.

As a technician I have found a very valuable diagnostic tool to be Windows
98 installed on a small IDE hard drive. Windows 98 will load in Safe Mode on
most any IBM compatible computer. Just unhook your hard drive and hook up
the hard drive containing Windows 98. If you are using a SATA hard drive,
there is no need to unhook it. Most computers try first to boot to an IDE
hard drive if one is hooked up.

Hit F8 and select Safe Mode. Once Windows 98 is loaded in Safe Mode you will
have use of your mouse and keyboard. If your mouse and keyboard work here
(but did not work in Windows XP) there is nothing wrong that a format and
reinstall job will not fix. I just fixed a keyboard problem yesterday by
formatting and reinstalling. I tried the built in Windows XP Restore thingy
but that did not solve the problem.

So here we go again, the patch 'em up team who loves to fix Windows
screaming, Do not format! Fix it! And we on the format and reinstall team,
Don't tune it up, just replace the engine! (Windows XP). This sounds like
the Democrats and Republicans, doesn't it?

The only thing I kick myself for is fooling around trying to fix it for a
few minutes before going ahead with the format and reinstall job. When the
internal Restore thingy works, it goes home and comes back a week later with
the same problem. The results of most patch jobs are the same.

[H] Weird Mouse Problem

2006-09-25 Thread Harvey Best

On my home desktop. Windows Xp Pro everything updated just suddenly started acting asif the mouse had gone bad. When you open a window, any window, the pointer just goes wild. You can click outside of the window and the random spastic movement stops, but as soon as the pointer is moved over the window again, the spastic movement starts again. So, I replaced the mouse, but it made no difference.

I am assuming its a driver problem? Also assuming I will need to boot up in safe mode to try and make changes or replace, because as it is now I can't make a change as I cannot control the mouse when I go to the mouse properties windows.

Any ideas, points in a semi-right direction? I am heading out of town early in the AM, so I may not be able to reply or try any solutions offered until late Friday night or Saturday, so you may not see an immediate reply, but any help appreciated.

Harvey
