Re: [ha-Safran] Looking for a prayer
Hi Susan, The prayer is said on Yom Kippur. I have enclosed the translation from the Artscroll Machzor (I don't have access to a Conservative one). [cid:image003.jpg@01D0A900.970B03C0] Hope this is useful. The prayer is: אדם יסודו מעפר It comes at the end of U-netaneh Tokef And you can find iterations of it and its meaning on this Google results page https://www.google.com/search?q=%D7%90%D7%93%D7%9D+%D7%99%D7%A1%D7%95%D7%93%D7%95+%D7%9E%D7%A2%D7%A4%D7%A8ie=utf-8oe=utf-8 Yaffa From: Hasafran [mailto:hasafran-bounces+yweisman=huc@lists.osu.edu] On Behalf Of Susan Kusel Sent: Tuesday, June 16, 2015 10:52 AM To: hasaf...@lists.service.ohio-state.edu Subject: [ha-Safran] Looking for a prayer Hi all, I was wondering if you could help me find a prayer that a patron remembers as a child during Rosh Hashanah. Re: [ha-Safran] Looking for a prayer
The section your patron is asking about is actually part of the piyyut Un'taneh tokef, which is a silluk, leading into the Kedushah (Kadosh, kadosh, kadosh..). In Mahzor Hadash it's on p. 284-5. In the Goldschmidt Rosh HaShanah volume it's page. 171. It begins Adam y'sodo me'afar/v'sofo le'afar - Humanity - it comes from dust/and its end is dust. (Your patron's memory conflates the 2 half-lines). The end of humans, our finite life, is contrasted with the eternal existence of G-d. I hope this helps.
