[hlds] Re: Windows 2003 HLDS install problem.

2005-06-25 Thread EqualHate

I was also hoping the very smart people could help me,
I have a Mac mini that I manage to load VirtualPC onto from MS, and run
a linux virtual server on top of that layer so that I could run the
SRCDS linux version
My server seems to be having lag issues but everything is installed
correctly.

I will post this to both lists in the hope that more people can
fustigate me verbally

I everything is running correctly, then how much upload bandwidth do you
have?
Depending on game, tickrate and other factors you need some where
between 35kbs to
53kbs upload rate per player on the server. Here is a steam page on
server tweaking.

[hlds] Re: sv_unlag and Ping

2005-06-25 Thread leo bounds
I saw someone talking about sv_unlag and ping
performance. Is it a good idea to have sv_unlag 1 in
all our server.cfg files as a general rule to help
people with bad ping rates and if so would that be for
all HL games, CS, DOD, CSS etc ?

Thanks for info

[hlds] Error! Server Varification Failed

2005-06-25 Thread stalker333

Hello List,

I have been getting, in the past 36-48 hours or so, the following error
message sometimes when connecting to servers. Error! Server
Varification Failed. I get all the way to the server, actually can see
what mods they have installed (AM, SM, etc) but stop short of getting
fully connected.

This only happens sometimes, and it's not always the same servers. Some
DOD servers, some TFC. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

playing without sv_unlag makes no sense at all, especially not over
the internet.

Also check how much cpu and ram you are using, you maybe maxing out as
the server fills. Dropping the Linux
virtual server and using the windows version will help this.

i agree. i run hl and tfc servers (iceflatline.homeip.net) with that
cvar enabled and it does seem to help clients with latency issues.

Re: [hlds] Re: sv_unlag and Ping

2005-06-25 Thread Clayton Macleod
well, obviously, sv_unlag is what turns on the compensation for
clients' latency. It's what makes it so you don't have to lead your
shots in front of the model you see, so you can actually aim at the
model as if you had no latency at all. Turning it off just brings you
back to the quake 1 days when there was nothing done to compensate for
latency at all. The only situation where you might consider turning
this off is on a LAN, but even then it makes no sense to turn it off,
really.

And it's on by default so you don't really need it in the config either.

[hlds] RE: MAC Mini - Virtual PC Linux Server

2005-06-25 Thread Game Café Brooklin
If I am understanding this you have 3 independent OS's 2 of which are either
emulations or running as a second process within a second process each of
which has to decipher the main systems IP protocols. Drop the Virtual PC and
use OS X's own xUnix base to run SRCDS - you don't need any emulators as OS
X is Unix based and will run SRCDS on it's own.
