[hlds] Autoupdate on windows servers

2009-05-31 Thread EvilMacGuyver
Hi everyone,
I'm running a few tf2 and left4dead server on a windows 2003 server box. I
know that autoupdate doesn't currently work on the windows side as was
wondering 1) is valve ever going to fix this and 2) have any other windows
admins come up with a decent work around for this problem other than running
hldsupdatetool from the command line?

[hlds] DoD:S Induvidual Class restrictions for each Map or a particular one

2009-05-31 Thread Hyphon
Hi!

Does anyone know a sourcemod plugin or can give me a link to a tutorial for
creating class
restrictions on DoD:S?

Doe example if avalanche is loaded, MG class is set to zero, on Donner it's set
to 1.

Would glad to get some hints.

Greetings

Use Pre-Shared Key, it's just another name for WPA. There's also WPA2
and you can often choose between using some AES or TKIP but it does
not matter which one you choose, they are all secure as long as your
passphrase is not in a dictionary or very short.

Subject: [hlds] Steam / VAC Connection Unstable

 Hi~
 This is very recent
At the moment, NO COMPUTER on my network, dedicated server or client, can
maintain a stable connection to steam. It will connect for about 10
 seconds,
then disconnect for about 20. It is not stopping. This is rather annoying
for when I play games, but for my dedicated server noone can get on because
it's not listed on the master server.

This is also odd - not too long ago, my wireless got hacked and someone
started downloading illegal stuff and got my internet shut off for a week.
 I
just got new neighbors - sigh - . So this is only with steam, no other
issues. I tried port forwarding but it does not seem to help... assuming
 IpV4 is local, i think.

 Any help would be great...
For my Client I'll try deleting clientregistry.blob.

Run an mtr trace (winmtr.sourceforge.net) to some outside IP's. Sounds
like your connection is flapping. On the winMTR trace you should detect
a lot of packetloss if this is the case.

i assume it goes like this..

autoexec is run when the server starts

server.cfg every map change

map.cfg after server cfg every map change

so put your global defaults in server cfg, and if you need to have anything
special on a map, put it in map cfg. when map comes up, it loads the special
settings, and when it changes again, it loads the defaults again from
server.cfg

Ive made a batch script that connect to this mail list via telnet and
scans for emails with the subject [hlds] Team Fortress 2 Update
Available. When it detects that email in the pop box the script stops
all the TF2 services and updates them then restarts them when they are
finished updating.

Its pretty basic batch scripting that any novice should be able to
figure out.

Re: [hlds] Vac Ban for Idle program @ Source Op?

2009-05-31 Thread Haven Meyer
If you want to track this rumor, its from one person stating they couldn't
connect to the vac servers a few nights ago (which happened to us all), and
then one person here:
http://www.gotfrag.com/tf2/forums/thread/400307/?cpage=1#comment_9221007-claiming
to have been vac banned for it. If only *one* person out of the
6000 people who downloaded the program got banned... (lol) also, three
days would be the fastest turn around on a VAC ban I've ever seen.

Re: [hlds] Vac Ban for Idle program @ Source Op?

2009-05-31 Thread Philip Bembridge
I would have thought it unlikely that you will get vac banned. However, if
valve decide to strip items for using this program, it is no different to
just running a server and sitting idle in it. Would they strip items for
anyone playing on an achievement-idle server? or would they strip items for
anyone running a local server and sitting idle in that all day?
Also, there is *rather a lot* of people using it, and valve have to wonder
if there is a reason behind that number of players using it..

It mimic's idling in a server without actually launching tf2. in a command
line type interface. it connects to a master (fake) server which has 10,000

Re: [hlds] Vac Ban for Idle program @ Source Op?

2009-05-31 Thread Cc2iscooL
Seeing as it mimics idling in a server even though you're not idling in a
server it could be considered a cheat.

You're not actually running a game. You're using a program to emulate the
game's function of connecting to a server. As far as I'm concerned that
seems like cheating to me. It's like editing your punch times at work to say
you were working when you really took the day off instead, and you're still
getting paid. While you can't really get in trouble if you have nothing to
do all day at work, you can get in trouble for editing your time sheet to
say you were at work when you actually weren't.

In the end the only difference between idling in your app or idling in
TF2 is RAM, CPU and if not minimized, GPU used. It's no more cheating
than running TF2 in DX8 mode to get better performance.

seems like cheating to me. It's like editing your punch times at work to say
you were working when you really took the day off instead, and you're still
getting paid. While you can't really get in trouble if you have nothing to
do all day at work, you can get in trouble for editing your time sheet to

Re: [hlds] Vac Ban for Idle program @ Source Op?

2009-05-31 Thread Tony Paloma
Nobody has complained to me that they've been VACd. The people that you are
hearing this from are likely trolls. Further, the server it connects to is
not VAC secure.

Certainly Valve has proven it's well within their power to block people from
their items. However, about 30,000 people have downloaded the program and I
don't think Valve is willing to anger that many people who are already
easily upset about access to items.

Also, this isn't really relevant to running servers, so please let's not
discuss it on this list.

many people use that achievement unlocker in slow fashion and even quick
fashion and dont have their weapons removed so yea. As to someone mentioning
tf2 using gpu, if you run the game minimized gpu is not used at all and runs
idle the only drawback of running tf2 minimized vs not at all is memory
usage by the system. cpu usage is about 1% and gpu no more than in 2d
windows mode when you run tf2 minimized idle on any server.

It's not really any different than running TF2 in an idling server and
minimizing the window, I wouldn't say it's very honest but I wouldn't
really classify it as a cheat.

And VACs main purpose is protecting the game process, I don't think you
could get VAC banned from just manipulating the Steam API to perform
simple tricks like this unless you do it from within the game, while
connected to a VAC secured server. Although it seems possible if you
were to try to connect to a legitimate (VAC enabled) server using what
would appear to be a phony client that VAC might flag your account,
although I think it'd most likely just refuse the connection.
