[hlds] Autoupdate on windows servers
Hi everyone, I'm running a few tf2 and left4dead server on a windows 2003 server box. I know that autoupdate doesn't currently work on the windows side as was wondering 1) is valve ever going to fix this and 2) have any other windows admins come up with a decent work around for this problem other than running hldsupdatetool from the command line? -EvilMacGuyver ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds

Use Pre-Shared Key, it's just another name for WPA. There's also WPA2 and you can often choose between using some AES or TKIP but it does not matter which one you choose, they are all secure as long as your passphrase is not in a dictionary or very short. i assume it goes like this.. autoexec is run when the server starts server.cfg every map change map.cfg after server cfg every map change so put your global defaults in server cfg, and if you need to have anything special on a map, put it in map cfg. when map comes up, it loads the special settings, and when it changes again, it loads the defaults again from server.cfg On Sun, May 31, 2009 at 10:43 AM, Hyphon hyp...@arcor.de wrote: Sorry, EMail-Client is a little bit bitchy since 2 two days... Re: [hlds] Vac Ban for Idle program @ Source Op?
I would have thought it unlikely that you will get vac banned. However, if valve decide to strip items for using this program, it is no different to just running a server and sitting idle in it. Would they strip items for anyone playing on an achievement-idle server? or would they strip items for anyone running a local server and sitting idle in that all day? Also, there is *rather a lot* of people using it, and valve have to wonder if there is a reason behind that number of players using it.. Seeing as it mimics idling in a server even though you're not idling in a server it could be considered a cheat. You're not actually running a game. You're using a program to emulate the game's function of connecting to a server. As far as I'm concerned that seems like cheating to me. It's like editing your punch times at work to say you were working when you really took the day off instead, and you're still getting paid. While you can't really get in trouble if you have nothing to do all day at work, you can get in trouble for editing your time sheet to say you were at work when you actually weren't. iGiggled -- Cc2iscooL Head Admin/Owner http://www.cc2iscool.com On Sun, May 31, 2009 at 4:31 PM, Philip Bembridge philipbembri...@gmail.com wrote: Valve: feel free to block the program, but please PLEASE after the weapon drop probabilities are geared towards playing well.. similar to the crit calculation!! @ cc2iscool: is this program any different to sitting idle in a server? then sitting in an idle server is cheating... if so, how are you going to strip their achieves? Nobody has complained to me that they've been VACd. The people that you are hearing this from are likely trolls. Further, the server it connects to is not VAC secure. Certainly Valve has proven it's well within their power to block people from their items. However, about 30,000 people have downloaded the program and I don't think Valve is willing to anger that many people who are already easily upset about access to items. Re: [hlds] Vac Ban for Idle program @ Source Op?
many people use that achievement unlocker in slow fashion and even quick fashion and dont have their weapons removed so yea. As to someone mentioning tf2 using gpu, if you run the game minimized gpu is not used at all and runs idle the only drawback of running tf2 minimized vs not at all is memory usage by the system. cpu usage is about 1% and gpu no more than in 2d windows mode when you run tf2 minimized idle on any server. Re: [hlds] Problem being listed on the master...
Well, there is the problem! Simply sober up and you will find that it's working fine :-) Things that can cause a server to not list with the master. GO. (No firewall, on a routed /28, server is playable in all ways, VAC activated, only symptom is that it's not visible to the master, even though the config files all check out against all our other servers) Thanks in advance for the community's help in this. I'm at a loss, though it *IS* my birthday and I'm a little incapacitated. -K ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds

Steam forums as a general rule... well umm there is no real value there. ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds Sent via BlackBerry by ATT ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds

Re: [hlds] Vac Ban for Idle program @ Source Op?
It's not really any different than running TF2 in an idling server and minimizing the window, I wouldn't say it's very honest but I wouldn't really classify it as a cheat. And VACs main purpose is protecting the game process, I don't think you could get VAC banned from just manipulating the Steam API to perform simple tricks like this unless you do it from within the game, while connected to a VAC secured server. Although it seems possible if you were to try to connect to a legitimate (VAC enabled) server using what would appear to be a phony client that VAC might flag your account, although I think it'd most likely just refuse the connection. it's amazing how many people think achievents and unlocks are such serious business. ROAR BAN ALL THE IDLERS, ROAR BAN ALL THE FAKE IDLE SERVER CLIENTS what skin is it off your nose?
