Re: [hlds] Server bans
I think that would be a very hairy problem from Valve's perspective. They would have to track ban requests, allow people to subscribe to others' bans, all while protecting against fraud. This would require an enormous ongoing effort. The chief issue as I see it, what prevents a troll from banning legitimate players he doesn't like? How do you stop this? -Ken On Feb 25, 2013 1:38 PM, cls mega9900-...@yahoo.com wrote: Can we please get a feature to ban across multiple servers without using a plugin? ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: https://list.valvesoftware.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/hlds ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: https://list.valvesoftware.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/hlds
Re: [hlds] Experience with Virtualization

(%ACTIVE is the VMware term) If you can guarantee the hardware won't get that busy, you should be alright, but if there is a chance, it mgiht or you don't have direct control over the actual hardware, you could run into issues down the road. My experience with a TF2 server running on a Xen VPS ( http://www.linode.com/ ) has been that I/O was the limiting factor. I got much choppier performance when I had replays and SourceTV demos enabled. Also, you can dramatically reduce the memory footprint of multiple servers running on the same box if you make smart use of symlinks or directory junctions. -Ken ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: https://list.valvesoftware.com/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/hlds

This bug with the frequent client crashes is an annoying one, you'll be amazing how not fun it is for a server owner to keep a full server when everyone will crash at once and blame you. This is annoying, and I bet for the average player it must be fun to be in a great game then suddenly crash and return to a near empty server.* We've had an exploit reported and demonstrated where a user can type a chat message and crash every PC client attatched to the server. [hlds] SourceTV file handles not being freed
I'm seeing trouble with all our windows-based tf2 servers not closing sourcetv file handles after a map change. I have to restart the server to make it possible for our web frontend to download the server's demo files. I'm thinking running out of file handles might be causing some crashes others are reporting. -Ken Bateman ___ To unsubscribe, edit your list preferences, or view the list archives, please visit: http://list.valvesoftware.com/mailman/listinfo/hlds
