Hopefully, Valve implements IPv6 in their software before the remaining 36 /8 prefixes are allocated. After that, IP addresses are going to get expensive. Re: [hlds] Srcds on IPv6?
I am not too worried about it. I am working on this for a class project on IPv6 more than anything. The idea was to see how difficult it would be to run IPv4 UDP applications over IPv6. All the TCP stuff can be run through SSH tunnels quite easily. The reason for me posting here was to see if anyone knew a way to run Counter-strike source over UDP. I didn't want to reinvent the wheel if someone already did it. I am at least glad that some ISPs are planning to roll out IPv6 soon. Comcast is one of them. They have some power point slides about that posted on RIPE's site. I honestly don't care what Valve does. I am not going to push for IPv6 support in Steam any more than this. Whether they implement it or not is their call. Thou, I still do think its a bad idea to wait till the last minute like a lot of developers are doing. In my opinion, It's far easier sorting out the bugs over time, to have a smooth transition. In any case, time will tell whether I am right or not. Thou it will probably take two to six years :-(. Correction on this line: The reason for me posting here was to see if anyone knew a way to run Counter-strike source over UDP I meant over IPv6 not UDP On Mon, Dec 8, 2008 at 10:31 AM, Alex Smith [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: I am not too worried about it.
