This is especially noticeable on private (sv_search_key set) servers, as
these are the ones which idle for longest.

Well they don't get filled my matchmaking anyway because of a searchkey set.

Same here. Since the last big update nothing works well anymore with L4D1 (high
pings, servers empty out etc.) It was maybe done to push the L4D2 sales.

Yeah, in a perfect world no one posts client issues here - but it happens
all the time. I'm just surprised this particular issue hasn't been.
Technically, it has because I mentioned it LOL.

And my L4D1 server still empties out after a day or so and stays empty until
I restart server. This particular issue has not been fixed.

It's been dead. There are some serious client issues that I'm surprised
haven't made it to this list (like a lot of people can't play L4D since the
11/21 update because Valve seriously screwed the code), and the linux folks
have some issues, but the Winbloze list is surprisingly quiet.

 Subject: Re: [hlds] ping

It's been dead. There are some serious client issues that I'm surprised
haven't made it to this list (like a lot of people can't play L4D since
 the
11/21 update because Valve seriously screwed the code), and the linux
 folks
have some issues, but the Winbloze list is surprisingly quiet.

 Happy early Thanksgiving!

Re: [hlds] ping

2009-11-25 Thread gameadmin
This is especially noticeable on private (sv_search_key set) servers, as
these are the ones which idle for longest. Most nights I have to rcon quit
those forks after complaints that people are getting punted into
locally-hosted servers. This restart solves the problem

Re: [hlds] ping

2009-11-25 Thread Jonah Hirsch
Maybe that's related to the whole *Heartbeat is disabled* (usually
developer or cheats is on) message.

What I read that message as is: Heartbeat is disable when developer mode is
on, or sv_cheats is set to 1. That makes me think that the heartbeat
command (at least on clients) won't work unless developer mode is on or
cheats are on, so some boolean value is swapped.

That or that error message should say usually developer or cheats *isn't*on.

It should lead to an auto vac ban... But no that would be abused by
achievement farmers. They would get themselves banned.

More like Honeypot = irrelevent to the topic at hand.

But if it makes you feel good, I'm making some changes for the Sniper
update and I have a few more servers I'll be running it on, not to
mention the handful of people who want to run them along side mine. I
was also on the Control Point Podcast this past Sunday to talk about it
and, despite their disagreeance, they gave a few good suggestions I
think I am going to use when Sniper rolls around.

I'm not seeing this on my hl2dm or hldm:s servers which are on Win2003 ...

Try raising the priority on the srcds.exe process to above normal (don't
go higher then that though).

Anyone here has any idea how it comes that on Win2003 with a full server
Pings rise sometimes to over 300 on all SRCDS games.

What we then see in console is STATUS: SPAWNING with a specific person
After this person is disconnected, pings go back to normal.

CPU Usage stays normal, memory usage stays normal and bandwidth the same.

Is this a known SRCDS bug? Even without plugins this happens.

I hope Valve can respond and help as it seems to happen with Win2003 only.
