[HPLIP-Devel] Some opinions on the parameters of most hplip command

2007-01-24 Thread 仁秀 梁
Sorry for the poor written English!

As for most hplip commands, such as hp-check, hp-levels, hp-makeuri etc,
parameters -linfo, -lnone, -lerror, -lwarn -ldebug are provided. When using
hp-check -lerror, it displays only the error: not found in terminal, and it
displays nothing in terminal if using hp-check -lnone, I think it's not the
best result the customers want, at least it should display the missing packages
information or display no packages missing and so on.

If using hp-probe -lnone (or -lwarn, -lerror), no printers will be detected
(or only warning or errors will be display in terminal). I think it's not
acceptable.

As for the inconsistency, when using hp-makeuri -lnone 001:002, it still
displays the URI of the usb connected printer, I think it's good to and can be
accepted.

 Hello,

I use hplip-1.6.10 printing with two printers, first is a HP Officejet

print
some photos on both printers, and I wanted an want flull-bleed photos
15x10
cm (6x4 in). With the OJ 5605z it workes just fine, but the OJ 4212 was
 resisting the collaboration.

I was a litte bit annoyed, since the list of supported printers
 (http://hplip.sourceforge.net/supported_devices/inkjet_aio.html
) says, the OJ 4200er series depends to printer class DJ3600 and the
 Technical Documentation (
 http://hplip.sourceforge.net/tech_docs/device_classes.html)
says, that printers which depend to printer class DJ3600 likely support
full-bleed printing for certain paper sizes ( i.e. for paper
15x10cm/6x4in
 full-bleed printing is supported!).

So I looked in the ppd-file for the OJ4200er (HP-OfficeJet_4200-
hpijs.ppd)
supplied by HPLIP 1.6.10 and I found out, that here the printer class
DJ3320
is used for it. So I tried to patch the ppd-file and (surprise?) it
worked
 (with my OJ 4212)!

I attached the patch for evaluating it by you an maybe apply it to the
next
 version of HPLIP.

What do you think about it?

 Thomas

Re: [HPLIP-Devel] Some opinions on the parameters of most hplip command

2007-01-24 Thread dwelch91

The only real use of -l is for debugging purposes. For all other normal
use by a user, you would never specify any -l parameter at all. And, the
only -l parameter that is truly useful is -ldebug (also can be specified
as -g). Please note that the -l parameter is working as designed -
-lerror only shows errors, -lwarn shows only errors and warnings, etc.

Is there a way to install hplip without documentation? I
don't see a specific configure switch that will allow this
behavior. This would be a nice option for a future version.

 Thanks,
