Re: Need the link to Catalog Administration

2008-04-26 Thread Lizette Koehler
I would look up the IMPORT CONNECT command to reconnect user catalogs. Most
IDCAMS commands can be found in the TSO HELP facility if do you not have
manuals handy.

Either in TSO READY mode or OPTION 6 issue HELP IMPORT. Sometimes witnin
ISPF you will need prefix the command with TSO. So it would be TSO HELP
IMPORT. It should have the same information that you would find in a
manual. If you want a hardcopy just run a IKJEFT01 in batch and in SYSTSIN
place the command HELP IMPORT. Output will be on SYSTSPRT. Or if you have
quickref issue QW IMPORT*

Yes, I mean reconnect user catalogs back to a master catalog.
---unsnip---
IMPORT CONNECT, then list the UCAT and start re-defining aliases as
needed. IMPORT CONNECT is described in your Access Method Services manual.

Once upon a time, I had a REXX that would convert a LISTCAT NAME listing
to a set of DEFINE ALIAS commands, but it's long lost now. The same can
be accomplished using ISPF EDIT on the listing but it's slightly more
tedious that way.

x3270 (and c3270) are open source run great under either Linux or
Windows (XP, Vista) under cygwin.
The later versions support ssl, and I use them extensively on both platforms.

There is a free and very simple to setup EXE for wc3270 (Windows c3270) here:

http://x3270.bgp.nu/download.html

For Ubuntu, you simply install the x3270 package.

Don't know if/how it runs under Wine; never use it.

Kirk, have you ever been able to get it to support something like (say)

I also couldn't get it to connect to a host demanding SSL V3.

In the end it was easier to give Tom his due, and get the job done.

Naturally, IBMlink's maintenance window completely encloses our data

alternative window they might consider is going to conflict with some
installation's maintenance window. We see 24 x 7 for IBMLink as a
definite requirement.

Our maintenance window would be one point where a software glitch that
only surfaced under production load would most likely be a sev 1 issue.
This raises concerns for us about how well IBM is equipped to handle a
sev 1 problem when their IBMlink infrastructure is undergoing maintenance.

Fixed-Point and Scientific Notation

2008-04-26 Thread John P. Baker
Has IBM established a standard in any of the various high-level languages
for the representation of the various floating-point formats and precisions?

. Formats:

o Binary

o Decimal

o Hexadecimal

. Precisions:

o Single (4-byte)

o Double (8-byte)

o Quadruple (16-byte)

I am specifically looking at both fixed-point and scientific notation.
