Re: ACCOUNT Product

2012-01-11 Thread Carlos Bodra - Pessoal
There are some good products available in many vendors (CA, BMC, etc...)
that expand control over account.
Keep in mind that 10% of use o CPU, consume DASD access and some
gigabytes stored in you storage subsystem.
This access to DASD means too IP or SNA traffic. This envolves gateways,
routers, links etc...

Eventually user uses tape for backup, so more DASD access and cost of tape.

Account products can give you a detailed vision of all these values.
After this you need to assign a value ($$$)
for each unit, CPU second, MB stored, MB acessed, IP traffic, so you can
chargeback your user or even

keep a track about top 10 users...

Good luck

Hello,

The people here, want split the cost of Mainframe to users that use it.
For example, the user consumed 10% of CPU, then the cost of CPU is $40.000,00.
So for this user, the price was $4.000,00.
This is only a example.

What do you want to report?
CPU consumption?
Elapsed time?
What - and why?

IPL abend z/os 1.8

18.45.46 IEA794I SVC DUMP HAS CAPTURED:

We already tried a lot of tricks, but no one get success. Even system is

DS6800 and OS/390 2.9

2011-09-13 Thread Carlos Bodra - Pessoal

Hello List Gurus.

We are in process of migrate from an ancient IBM 2105-F20 with 1TB of
legacy mainframe data to a IBM 1750-522 (DS6800). Both subsystems has
volumes defined as 3390-3 and no software features (flashcopy, pprc
etc..) used in

Shark and will neither in DS6800.

My question is, anyone has any experience with DS6800 running under a
OS390 2.9? We should migrate to z/OS 1.8 soon and after to z/OS 1.12,
but for some time, DS6800 will be running under OS390 control. No
software features will be used at all. It will be used as 2105 is been
used today.

Any positive or negative comentary will be wellcome.

Thanks

We already tried a lot of combinations of CSA, ECSA, SQA and ESQA values
and we continue to getting waits during
IPL. Since z/OS isn´t my native operating system (I come from z/vm and
z/vse), I will be saying thanks a lot for

Re: HMC definition for z/VM IFLs on a z196

2011-07-26 Thread Carlos Bodra - Pessoal

Yes z/VM can bring up with a IFL only partition.
If you choose z/VM mode you can select IFL and is mandatory to select a
CP too. This is useful when you want to run z/VSE under z/VM and some
Linux on Z machines under same z/VM.

z/VSE nor z/OS will run under a z/VM with IFL only engines.

least one CP in addition to the IFL specification? He tried to just select the
IFL and got the following error:

"The list of selected processors is not valid. For z/VM mode, if the IFL is

Is this now the new reality?

If I have a z/OS 1.4 and wants to run it over z890, I will need
Compatibility feature only if z890 is part of Parellel Sysplex or I will

z/os x z/os.e differences

2010-12-17 Thread Carlos Bodra - Pessoal

Hi listners,

Contuning my saga about z/os.e and z10 BC, we tried to IPL it before
install psp and get following message:

IFA200W LICENSE=z/OSe WAS SPECIFIED BUT IS NOT ALLOWED.

This message says that z/os.e runs only in z800 and z890 machines and
Lpars needs to have an specific name zose.

Checking google about z/os.e and z10 BC we found a Share presentation
dated from 2007 that says something about z/os.e 1.7

and 1.8 and z9 BC. It says in one step of migration following statement:

If you currently run z/os.e 1.7 or 1.8 and want to run same level, but
with z/os zNalc pricing do the following:
a - Get your z/os license with zNalc pricing. Ensure to have same
priced features in new z/nalc license as you have in z/os.e.

b - Shutdown your z/os.e system
c - Modify the z/os.e customization as follows:
c1 - In parmlib member IFAPRDxx convert all the enabled
z/OS.e statements for ID 5655-G52 to z/OS statments for ID 5694-A01

This shows to me (I´m a fresh new guy in z/os world) that binaries for
z/os 1.8 and z/os.e 1.8 are same, and functions are enabled
or disabled by changing product ID from 5655-G52 to 5694-A01. So, I can
conclude that PSP upgrade zosv1r8 could be applied to
z/os.e 1.8. In other words, there are no specific psp for z/os.e 1.8.
I´m correct?

Thanks in advance for any comment about.

PSP for z/os.e 1.8

2010-12-17 Thread Carlos Bodra - Pessoal

Hi listners,

I´m new to z/os world, and need some clarification about following subject.

We are moving from z890 to a brand new z10 BC. Our current z/os.e
version is 1.8 (last).
Before I can ipl this version under z10 control, I need to apply z/os.e
Preventive Service Planning

mainly to get support for some new hardware available in z10.

Maain problem resides in IBM Support Center, that says that will not
supply PSP for z/os.e 1.8 because
this is a withdrawn from markting product, service date expired (Set,
30, 2009).

Since announcement letter of z10 in software requirements item says that
z/os.e 1.8 is support under

z10 BC with PTFS, I need these PTF´s.

I have access to IBMLink and found in PSP section upgrade zosv1r8 that
refers to z/os 1.8, but was unable
to found upgrade for z/os.e 1.8. My question is: Is same upgrade or has
an especific one? What?

We should move from z/os.e 1.8 to z/os 1.12 under z/NALC licensing in a
next quarter, but need to make

z/os.e 1.8 run now in z10 BC.

Any hints, tips or comments about are welcome.

Thanks

EREP dump readout for MCIC

2010-10-14 Thread Carlos Bodra - Pessoal

 Hi listners.

I was checking erep output to try to discover more about MCIC (Machine
Check Interruption Code) and found following register,
but I checked 02 Erep manuals, (User´s Guide Manual and Reference
Manual), but can´t found any description how to readout these

little dump.

We are running z/vm 4.40 over MP3000 (soon z10 BC), but until there, I
need to discover what means External Damage in MCIC code.

If I remember in the past, we had some manuals called "Logic Manuals",
but I can´t located it for Erep.
If anyone can tell me where I can found documentation about these dump,
I will say Thank You!

ESS800 Configuration

2010-10-05 Thread Carlos Bodra - Pessoal

 Hi

We are in process to configure some area of our 2105-800 to be used by
open systems.
We start process and when we try to building host access (option modify
host), we got in ESS Specialist console following

message:

ERROR 1199 Information server problem. An unknown server error occurred.
Try again. If problem persists call service representative.

Service representative was called and checked out machine. No errors
found. Machine is working well with Escon/Ficon adapters.
We already try to do same definition a lot of times using both clusters,
any kind of host (as400, RS6000, Linux z etc..)

Any hint about?

Carlos, you're not laughing hard enough. I can't hear you in Chicago.

By the way, would you like some choice real estate? 20 miles east of the
city of Chicago, straight off the end of Congress Parkway. Only $100,000
per acre, with many thousands of acres available.. Easy access to the
city, low traffic, no taxes and a scenic Lake Michigan view. :-))
